Okja

It's a pretty interesting movie that tries to be both a over the top satire about corporate greed and a touching "Boy and his dog" story (in this case a Korean girl and her intelligent mutant pig). I liked the whole cast in here, but I thought the little girl who played Mija was the best thing about this. While I enjoyed most of the movie I kinda prefer the more emotional side to the movie than Tilda Swinton and Paul Dano acting like anime characters. Overall, it's pretty good.

Smurfs: The Lost Village

I never saw the live action/CG movies, but this one feels very direct to video, almost like a lost episode they wanted to remake. They only used 4 Smurfs as the main stars leaving out everyone after the opening segment. But really, this movie is all about Smurfette which really stretches the movie. I really didn't care for her origins or the lost village of all female Smurfs. Overall, I didn't hate it but I was definitely bored by it.

Baby Driver

I enjoyed it, it's not the "movie of the year" like some critics are touting, but it's really good. It's Edgar Wright trying to harken back to some of the crime/romance movies back in late 80s early 90s like True Romance and Heat. I thought he did a great job at fusing sound and music to the story, every beat shows on screen. I would have liked a better selection of songs, but for what it was, it was decent. The driving stunts and the heists itself was the highlight for the movie for me. The middle of the movie was solid when it became serious with Jamie Foxx, but sadly that went away. I liked the last 3rd even though it went too cartoony for me.

The House

It's yet another comedy where they had an idea for a movie (or a tv show on Comedy Central, who knows), invite everyone who's a starving comedian, and just ad lib the entire thing. There's no such thing as characters or character development in this. Everyone plays a type and make up **** as they go along. I didn't completely hate it, there was a couple of jokes that landed but a lot of them just fell to the bottomless pit. While it's Will Farrell and Amy Poehler's movie they manage to give Jason Mantzoukas just as much screen time which is good for him even though the movie indeed sucked.

The Dinner

Honestly I was really trying to get interested in this, but the amount of high brow bullsh** was exhausting. It's a movie that tries to be way more complicated with its mystery/drama than it should be. Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, and Rebecca Hall were trying, but the material made their performances so obnoxious. Once you figure out the plot and what horrible thing that happened, it becomes very hard to get invested for anyone in the situation.

THE FOUNDER
QUALITY = 9/10
JOY = 9/10

I seem to be watching more movies these days than I usually would, and to think I'm one with the habit of watching one movie in segments.

Troll 2
Cannibal Terror
Devil Hunter
Sister Act

I enjoyed one of those.

Baby Driver - 2 times at the cinema.

9/10 - Pure awesomeness.

Man Down (2015)
About Time (2013)

The Place Beyond the Pines

Still fantastic as ever.

Justice League Dark

Spider-Man (2002)

Not only does this movie still hold up, it's still the best iteration of the character. Sam Raimi took Superman: The Movie and not only modernised the inherent 1970'sness of that film, but also made it absolutely timeless. As with all the best comic book films, there's a marriage of material and auteur director, as such the film is such an excellent blend of human drama, comic book aesthetic and entertaining summer blockbuster.

Finally got around to watch the last 2 Harry Callahan entries, and I didn't lose interest.
Though it seems the mob lost interest after a while.

THE DEAD POOL
QUALITY = 7.5/10
JOY = 9/10

The quality of this went up a bit after the previous film, joy level remains the same.
