"A Ghost Story"

I just couldn't get into it. It bored the **** out of me. I ended up fast forwarding through most of it.

It's a anthology horror film that try to do some high concept horror, but fails on its promises. Outside of the first short (which has a lousy ending), all of them were various degrees of cheap and bad. It's almost baffling why it's being praised in the critics circle. The best thing about this movie is sadly the wrap around "story" which was done in stop motion.
4/10

Demonic

It's pretty decent for a horror mystery. Since it's produced by James Wan. it has his sensibilities when it comes to the plot. This isn't about jump scares and frankly there's maybe less than a handful of them. The acting was solid for the most part. Frank Grillo and Maria Bello were probably the highlight of the movie. I do wish there was more horror that can balance some of the mystery. Overall, it's pretty good.
7.5/10

I'm going through a terrible 90's phase.

Split Second - Rutger Hauer, 1992

It was pretty bad...the ending was terrible and the acting in here was easily the worst of the three. You're right, it is a guilty pleasure and was fairly enjoyable but it could've been so much better. Jonathan Breck was still great as the Creeper, it's just a shame all of the elements around him don't match up.

Didn't the script get MAJORLY altered? I had heard that the original version was actually really good, but idk that for sure obviously.

I Come In Peace - Dolph Lundgren, 1990

Best 90's lines ever.
"I come in peace."
"And you go in pieces, *******!"

****ing amazing. :funny:

Youngblood

1980's hockey movie I watched in preparation for the upcoming hockey season. A lightweight sports movie featuring Rob Lowe and a young Patrick Swayze and even Keenu Reeves in a small role.

Gargoyles (1972)

Underrated, low budget made for TV monster movie featuring early Stan Winston special effects and a type of monster that's virtually unused in the genre. The opening features a documentary like prelude that explains the gargoyles connection to ancient demons. It's well paced with some decent scares and despite the monsters being a little campy looking I think they were well designed. It looks like quite a bit of effort went into creating several unique full body gargoyle suits although you don't actually see any of them until fly until the very end.

The Black Cat (1934)

It's a shame Lugosi and Karloff didn't work together more often. When you see them together like this it's really quite entertaining. While I wouldn't rate this as highly as the best of their work I think it's certainly far better than some of the schlock they were in. The ending is exciting and it's definitely worth checking out for fans of their films.

Shivers (1975)

The last of the Cronenburg movies in my queue I've seen parts of it before but never sat through the whole thing. It may not be as strong as some of his later efforts but it's still pretty disturbing. Rapidly spreading slug-like parasites take over human hosts in an apartment complex and all hell breaks loose. Shares similar themes with his next movie Rabid (1977).

American Made - It's a very serious story, but the film as the trailers might suggest, is actually really fun and awesome. It's cool to see Cruise doing something different from his usual action roles, and Liman's direction, along with even Beck's "rocking" score contribute to helping the overall film. I also quite like Gleeson in the movie, he had some good lines anymore. It's solid.*7.5 / 10*

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Why...oh WHY did I just do this to myself?! Highlander 2...I forgot just how much they **** ALL OVER the lore that made the premise interesting. I sure as hell didn't remember the alien angle.
