Transformers: The Last Knight - 4/10

The spectacle is insane and it's the usual Michael Bay flare where everything is turned up to the Nth degree.

The story, however, is ridiculous and almost as bad as the disaster that was Revenge of the Fallen.

I actually thought it was worse than ROTF, and that says alot. Plus, I watch these movies essentially to hear Peter Cullen. I'm a nostalgia hound, and for Prime to be in the movie for like, 10 minutes really pissed me off.

Raw

Really enjoyed it. It's a coming of age horror movie that works on many levels. This feels like someone took Suspiria and mixed it in with Ginger Snaps. There's also some great cinematography work in here. Garance Marillier and Ella Rumpf were great in this considering what they had to do in this. At times it's either gory, gross, or incredibly messed up. Overall, it's one of the better artistic horror movies i've seen this year.
9/10

Cellar Dweller (1988)

Jeffrey Combs plays a comic book artist that uses actual satanic verses to letter his stories and accidentally conjures the furry demon in his drawings. He manages to defeat the monster by burning his artwork but the fire quickly spreads and he's engulfed in flames. That's just the first 10 minutes! Decades later an aspiring cartoonist enrolls in an art academy built on the same grounds to follow in her idols footsteps. There's a great reverence for the classic EC Comics era of horror as well as other Easter eggs that fans of the genre will appreciate. Some of the acting isn't great but I thought the story was really interesting. There's a little gore, a bit of fan service and the practical special effects hold up pretty well.

Batman Lego Movie - 9/10

Really cute with an uplifting message and plenty of easter eggs for the fanboys. Dick was simply adorable and probably the best part of the move for me. That being said, not all of the jokes were successful (Batman beatboxing was especially stupid) and the romantic subplot with [blackout]Barbara[/blackout] was left curiously unresolved.

The Godafther of noir sci fi, the visuals of this futuristic earth hold up really well and the film is dripping with atmosphere. The story is an old fashioned detective tale wrapped around an intriguing question, the only flaw is the editing in places, but Harrison Ford is on top form. 9/10

Blade Runner 2049

One of the best sequels ever made. The fact that the film is that good considering its predecessor and how long it's been is ridiculous

Never heard of it but it sounds awesome!

Do they use the original Vangelis BR theme at any point?

Wonder Woman (2017). 2/10. One of the most overrated movies ever. Of course everyone on
THESE boards were raving about it. But people on these boards like vaseline on toast.

The Monster Squad (1987)

While aspects of the film feel a bit dated and it certainly has its flaws it's still a really fun homage to the classic Universal Monsters era. We may not look back at this as a great movie or being particularly scary for that matter it does have a nostalgic appeal and cult following. The highlight of the film really is the Stan Winston practical special effects which are outstanding and hold up incredibly well.

Blade Runner 2049

Loved it. Villeneuve and Roger Deakins managed to expand a classic scifi film into modern times without repeating plot or character moments. This is a great neo noir film that further asks fundamental questions about being human that started in the first film. I thought Ryan Gosling was great and while Harrison Ford wasn't in it that much, he also delivered. But for me, I thought Dave Batista had the best part of the movie and I wish they gave him more to do. Sylvia Hoeks was also great and I did not expect her role to be that big as it went along. It's visually stunning by far from this year and it's a shoo-in for best cinematography. Overall it's one of the best movies of the year and and in some ways I prefer this one over the original.
9/10
