The Babysitter

It's a teen horror comedy that feels like it's trying to hard to be clever and meta with it's humor and story. This is almost like something you'd see in Scream Queens or Teen Wolf. It's hard to root for anyone here especially the main kid and the babysitter. The gore is over the top which was expected, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Overall, it's a horror movie just to be obnoxious and I was annoyed by it the entire time.

The Snowman

Man this was a doozy to get through. It's a mystery thriller that got butchered from start to finish in many areas. Storywise, this movie is all over the place. It's like someone took the structure of Zodiac or Seven and literally cut it into pieces (which causes it to be convoluted and dumb if that makes sense). It feels like there were chunks of the movie was missing because of the messy editing. Even the acting was stilted and downright laughable at times. Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, and even J. K. Simmons with his fake accent couldn't save this. And for some reason Val Kilmer was in it and I really couldn't tell if he had his lines dubbed over. If I have any positives, it would be the cinematography. Some of the shots of Norway looked incredible even if some of them were edited to hell. Overall, it's a mess of a film. Don't be fooled by the trailer, it's the complete opposite of a David Fincher type movie.

Only The Brave

Incredible stuff. It's a based on a true story natural disaster movie that is done extremely well. They did a great job on setting up the movie with going a little in depth about being a firefighter in Arizona and being a Hotshot. The movie's biggest highlight was the characters and the camaraderie between the crew, it really felt like something out of Black Hawk Down or Jarhead. However, it mostly focuses on Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, and Taylor Kitsch's characters. Joseph Kosinski did a great job on directing and was able to capture some really fascinating shots of the wildfire. There's also some weight and depth to the drama, so when things do hit the fan, it hits hard. Overall, it's a great movie that is like a mishmash of Jarhead and Everest.

Pumpkinhead

It's a Stan Winston directed creature feature that is actually really good. I was surprised how it has an above average story that goes with the amazing creature effects. Lance Henriksen pretty much owns this movie, he was fantastic. It's a shame we never got to see more of Stan Winston as a director, but at least we got Pumpkinhead.

The romance is pretty blah in early scenes, a couple of characters vanished and made no significant return like Jon Bernthal, and his name is in the intro credits to make you think he has a more prominent role.
Those issues aside, it's a nice movie.
