Call Me By Your Name - Great film. All the performances are superb. Michael Stuhlberg's "big speech scene", is one of the best acted moments of any film I've seen this year. - 9 / 10

I Love You, Man.

I always watch this when I'm I'll and need cheering up. My #1 comedy movie, easily.

Finally watched The Shape of Water. I didn't think it was mind-blowing or anything like some people made it out to be, but I liked it, for the most part. Del Toro gets a little excessively weird/artsy sometimes (in general, not just this), and stuff like Shannon plowing his wife and the fantasy song sequence felt superfluous, but it's basically an adult fairy tale infused with Del Toro writing a love letter to old-school movie monsters (Creature from the Black Lagoon, obviously) and film in general (the song and dance number, Elisa's apartment right above a theater, etc.), and uses the creature as the most extreme example of an overall sympathy for the marginalized and "other" (Elisa being mute, Zelda black, Giles gay, etc., while the clean-cut, "respectable" WASP military man Strickland is the real "monster"). The smuggling him out and then releasing him was when **** really got going, like a darker ET (if ET and Eliot were banging). Plus Michael Shannon hasn't been this Full Shannon since Premium Rush, and that's always a plus.

Darkest Hour.

Fair play to Gary Oldman, he was superb as Winston Churchill. Interesting insight into the man & what he had to overcome in the early days of his term as Prime Minister.

12 Strong

After the horrible events of 9-11 many men and women entered the Armed Services. Some who had already served for years and were semi retired or assigned to desk jobs wanted to serve in combat again. One of those people was Captain Mitch Nelson. He and a detachment of Green Berets joined forces with warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum , one of the leaders of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan. This would be no easy task due to the rough terrain and being extremely outnumbered.

When 12 Strong isnt bogged down by cliched dialogue or action sequences that start to feel repetitive its an effective drama that shows the bravery of the soldiers and all the horrors that war brings forth.
The tense relationship between Nelson (Chris Hemsworth) and Dostum (Navid Negahban) is definitely one of the highlights of the film.
There are also good acting turns by Michael Shannon, Michael Pena, Trevante Rhodes, and William Fichtner
The action works in some extremely intense sequences ,some were definitely edge of your seat worthy.
Im glad the story was declassified and told as the first strike/mission against the Taliban ,something that was supposed to take years was accomplished in 3 weeks.
Hats off to the brave people that accomplished this feat.

Den of Thieves

IMO it seems so many crime drama's have tried to emulate the greatness of Michael Mann’s 1995 thriller, Heat.
Director Christian Gudegast gives it his all for Den of Thieves, shaping something that is never boring but definitely not flawless.
The story is solid enough. The heist crew made up of Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), Bosco (Evan Jones), Levi (50 Cent), and Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) have pulled off some succesful robberies but it's always that ultimate big score and when their latest robbery leaves bodies in it's wake L.A sherrif Nick Flanagan (Gerard Butler),and his team will do what it takes to bring them down.

There's enough style and swagger in DOT to make the film entertaining, and when it stays in those lanes and with deafening shoot outs laced with some humor it works, but when they try to add familial drama it goes off the rails and i began to wonder why it was added in the first place.

The film borrows from films like Heat and another effective crime drama i wont spoil here with some alterations.
The cast does well with what's given to them but there are some twists that were partially predictable
So it's no Heat but hey nice try though.
