INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE
Quality = 8.5/10
Joy = 10/10

My favorite Indiana Jones movie so far. I'm not sure why I took a week of break between watching the previous movie and this one, but I'm sure that I was wrong in staying away from watching these movies all this time.

Ranking them on joy scale so far:
  • Last Crusade
  • Temple of Doom
  • Raiders of the Ark

Next stop: Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls

Prepare yourself, S-A, if you haven't seen KOTCS before, please god, don't go in thinking it's the same quality as the original three.

I'm aware I shouldn't. I'm all prepared for the most awesome bit of surviving a nuclear blast by closing the fridge, and the infamous Shia LaBeouf.

Not sure I have other things to prepare for, I'll just hope that it doesn't bore me.

Oh it won't bore you, it's Indy, but things to prepare for....

- the worst directed film of Spielberg's career
- Tarzan CGI vine swinging
- Ants....lots of 'em

I think this will prepare you enough....spoilers though....

Boy, doesn't that betray the idea of an archaeologist fighting people who try to gain supernatural power....

Maybe I shouldn't overthink things before I watch it.

Yeah, that's the last thing you want to do before watching it. Good luck if and when you decide to go for it. :cwink:

I hope that it leads to a fun conversation. :D

I suspect it'll end in a letter to Spielberg from you simply with the word on it 'Why ?'. There is fun to be had from it, the action sequences are up to the previous films standard but the bad outweighs the good, on it's own, without comparing to the originals it's a 6-7/10 at a push, comparing too them, it's a 3/10 at best.

raiders of the ark started the legend and is a classic, but i too find i get more joy out of last crusade.
that harrison ford + sean connery chemistry.
casting connery as indiana's dad was a stroke of genius.
such a fun movie. emotionally moving at times too.

i also liked kingdom of the crystal skull - it's inferior to the previous 3 movies, but still a fun movie for me. cate blanchett as the villian is hot.
the cgi in it was pretty wonky though.

Controversial in it's day but probably seems quite tame in 2018, however one scene in particular plays even worse now than it did in 1992. The sex scenes aside this is actually a pretty decent thriller. 7/10

LBJ

It's a bio pic on Lyndon B Johnson that focuses on the years leading up to the JFK assassination and the fallout. I feel like the budget was the main issue with the movie. It's like they were working with a tv budget from the early 2000s. All the sets look and feel cheap and whenever they have to use greenscreen it was done so poorly. As for the performances, they were good, but none of them really stood out and that's including Woody Harrelson. Overall, it's a generic tv movie that lucked out and got a theatrical release.

Brigsby Bear

It's a great little indie drama about a child who got abducted and grew up watching only Brigsby Bear. He eventually gets rescued and from then on he tries to adjust into real life. For a movie that stars Kyle Mooney and produced by the Lonely Island, you expect this to be a full out comedy, but it's hardly that at all. It's a very sincere story that talks about people obsessing over pop culture. This movie is almost like if they took the best parts about Be Kind and Rewind and Bubble Boy and put it together. Overall, it's a solid little movie should be seen.

First They Killed My Father

Absolutely blown away. It's a very tough movie to watch about the Cambodian genocide through the viewpoint of a small child. Angelina Jolie has really improved over her last directed movie. The main actors they got were really good and the little girl did a phenomenal job. The visuals and scope were amazing and the way they kept the camera low and close like a child was excellent. I couldn't help but to think of Beasts of No Nation when watching this. They're both very similar and it almost makes for a great companion piece. Overall, I highly recommend it and it's a damn shame this didn't get nominated at the Oscars.
