The original Star Wars Trilogy (and I mean the ORIGINAL original trilogy, not the Special Edition trilogy, the first movie didn’t even have “Episode IV A New Hope” in the opening text crawl).

Yep, that's how I saw it first time.

La 317ème Section/The 317th Platoon (1965)

A great war movie set in -54 during France's defeat by the Viet Minh in the Indochina War. Following the 317th Platoon, who was a unit of French and Laotioan soldiers trying to retreat south to Cambodia is a tense and quite gritty story for it's time. And knowing that the director had been a war correspondent back during this war (between 1946-54) really adds to the experience.

Ready Player One

Who doesnt like a little nostalgia? Well how about a lot of nostalgia?

Ready Player One offers nostalgia and then some!
In a dystopian future set in 2045 people escape from their glum reality to the virtual reality of The Oasis created by James Halliday (Mark Rylance) and Ogden Morrow (Simon Pegg)
After Halliday's death it is discovered he set up a contest in which the winner gets control of The Oasis.
A young man named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) enters the contest, but a greedy corporation lead by an intense and sinister CEO Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn) is not to far behind to try to thwart the young gamer.

I didnt read the book so i wont throw a tantrum about how different this adaptation is.
Spielberg and his crew must have felt like kids in a candy store when they were given permission to use so many different characters from Hello Kitty to King Kong. This candy store is offered to the audience and i for one couldnt wait to take it all in..well at least try to.
Some scenes are directed so well by Spielberg, sequences so immersive ,loud and fun that i actually shook in my seat a little...and no i didnt see the movie in 4D !!
But with all the nerdy joy Spielberg provides there are some problems with the film

Like the people that inhabit this world in RPO when it comes to the washed out reality i would rather spend more time in The Oasis.
The human characters are fun enough which include Aech (Lena Waithe) and the brother duo of Sho (Philip Zhao) and Daito (Win Morisaki) and Art3mis (Olivia Cooke)
but it lags at their moments because they arent developed enough.

Still Spielberg is a master at combining the fantastic with the simplistic so he is still able to wring some heart out of the human moments and provide a cautionary message.
My experience was at times overwhelming, exhausting and a little drawn out,but there is so much fun to be had and i will definitely see it again and im in such high anticipation for the Blu Ray

Scale of 1-10 an 8

Acrimony

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

The film opens with Robert (Lyriq Bent) taking out a restraining order against Melinda Gayle (Taraji P. Henson). Then we see Melinda in a therapists office, she chafes at being there but begins to explain her love gone wrong history with Robert.

Director and writer Tyler Perry actually presents a good first half showing the ups and downs of a relationship, that begins in college in a not so meet cute moment and then into a marriage in which resentment builds, when it seems that only one person is carrying the financial load. Also dreams are put in front of the reality of a bad situation.

I really appreciated that Perry didnt completely demonize a particular character. The main actors do a good job even when the script starts to become clunkier as the film enters its last act.
That's when Perry creates convenient turns, that display how he is partially playing and catering to his audience.
I could definitely tell where Perry cut corners to keep the films budget low.
I really scratched my head as to why the characters made the oddest decisions even though they wanted to move on from each other.
The last 15 minutes are pretty much terrible.I didnt take it seriously,i just shook my head and laughed along with the audience.Im talking not even above the campiness of a Lifetime Network thriller.
Henson and the audience deserve so much better.

Scale of 1-10 a 5
