Fame (1980). The power of nostalgia. I used to love this film, haven't seen it in many years, but most of the acting is rough.

The concept and location stunt work is really good, but the film is a bit dull. 7/10

Love Simon.

A thoughtful, grounded, gentle take on coming out and growing up.

The Negotiator

First time I've watched this film. Thought it was absolutely amazing.

Upgrade

It's hard for me to not get caught up and overpraise this but goddamn, this movie was incredible. Despite the trailer and title looking half-assed, it's got a fully realized world and story. It has every blend of cyberpunk from RoboCop to Total Recall to the Matrix to even recent stuff like Hardcore Henry and Black Mirror. The story was pretty damn good and they throw a couple of curve balls right when you think you know how it plays out and they way they end it is just perfect. It's 90 minutes long but they know how to use that time efficiently. Best thing I can say about this is it's doesn't take itself too seriously. They do have some really great emotional beats and they also know how to take a joke. Logan Marshall-Green aka Tom Hardy jr. actually pulled off a great performance. Overall, it's easily one of my favorites of the year and I wouldn't be surprised if this has a big cult following like Dredd.
9.5/10

Every Day

Somewhat better than I thought it was going to be. It's got an interesting concept that I wish had more to explore. It just sticks to being a typical teen romance movie and does all the cliche moments that you expect from it. That being said, there are some really well done scenes between Angourie Rice and who ever is the person A is playing like Jacob Batalon and Owen Teague. Overall, it's just okay.
6.5/10

Child's Play (1972) - 4/10

No, not the Chucky film, but a little-known Sidney Lumet film starring Beau Bridges and James Mason. The film is mostly just dull, and Lumet doesn't pull off the right tone it seems to be going for. On the plus side, the film is tonally strange enough to provide some unintentionally interesting bits, and James Mason gives an arresting performance with a completely incoherent role.

There's something about Murder, She Wrote. I don't know what it is but if it's on and I'm about I have to put it on. Even just as background whilst I'm doing something else.

I think it's because it's a gentler kind of muder mystery, easy to watch escapism.
