Dredd. Wonderful actioner. A real shame this didn't do better box office.

The Avengers.

Yeah, I watched it expecting to spreadhead absent from Coulson's death, but it is there. I am confused as to what the controversy was about, as it the blade is still present.

Dark Shadows 7/10
Prometheus 8/10
What to Expect When You're Expecting 7.5/10

Man I love Brit Marling, both as a writer and an actress.

I thought the rest of the cast did a good job too, but unlike her project with Mike Cahill last year (Another Earth) this didn't have the visual qualities that would have put it at a 10 for me.

One of my favorite movies ever.

The Guns of Navarone

Peck, Niven, and Quinn are so f***n awesome in this. I don't even mind Pecks glaringly obvious lack of a British accent. The tension between the characters as they try to complete their mission to take out the German guns really does make the film interesting to follow. There are a few really good suspense building sequences where the guys almost get caught by the Nazis or almost get killed.

Its just a great men on a mission film at the start of a decade with so many great films with similar stories.

Didn't find this one nearly as good. its ok but the story isn't pulled off as well and I didn't feel that the cast of this film had as much chemistry as the cast of GoN. Its like the producers were more concerned with filling it with stars who had just come off huge hits around the time. It has its moments though. I think Edward Fox and Robert Shaw give the film more class and more life than just about anyone.

Delta Force 3

Norris! Cassavetes! Douglas! Ok ok so its the sons and brothers of some of these more famous movie star names but despite the films cheap background its a fun B movie way to kill some time. Chuck is greatly missed but some of the people in this aren't too bad when it comes to the acting. The story is also pretty interesting with he teams trying to stop the detonation of a nuclear device. I think the thing that hurts this film more than anything is lack of money. If it had a bigger budget at least the action sequences could have helped it earn a better reputation.

Navy Seals

4.5/10

Somehow it ends up being a little worse than DF3 even though it has more money. The film obviously had some military cooperation so they have some pretty nice locations and get to use some impressive equipment. The SEAL team has to track down some stolen stinger missiles or something like that.

Its still little more than a glorified Navy recruitment film that used every cliche in the book. The movie is just so over the top and unbelievable at times. It has a good or at last somewhat known cast. Michael Biehn as the SEAL commander with a team made up of Charlie Sheen, Rick Rossovitch, Dennis Haysbert, Bill Paxton and a few other guys. Sheen basically plays the same wise cracking character he almost always plays and they are desperate to make him look like a bad boy daredevil living on the edge. Its laughable. The movie rips scenes pretty blatantly right from Top Gun but with its own spin.

Twilight Zone: The Movie

7/10

Its fun but not nearly as good as it should have been. It still feels more like a forerunner to Amazing Stories than it does a love letter to the Twilight Zone even though it is that as well.
Spielberg's segment Kick the Can has got to be the worst. He was the best choice out of the four to direct it but I just didn't think it worked all that well. The bigot segment had the potential to fantastic. It was an original story and right out of the tv series but obviously circumstances really damaged the end product.

I think Joe Dante and George Millers segments work out the best and go a long way to saving the film. Nightmare at 20,000 feet has some strong visual flare and on a technical level its great. So many good practical effects.

The opening sequence with Albert Brookes and Dan Ackroyd was interesting but ended up being more funny than creepy. Landis didn't quite perfect the mix the way he did with An American Werewolf in London. The ending sequence was a cool way to tie up the movie though.

The Invisible Man (1933)

8.5/10

One of the best Universal monster films of the golden age. Claude Rains is soooo great in this. Griffin's growing insanity and paranoia are portrayed so well. Its even more impressive since so much has to be conveyed vocally. Some of the special effects still impress. Now it would just be CGI but back then a lot of ingenuity went into the invisibility effects and even now some shots take some thinking about how they did them.

Resident Evil Retribution

Even by RE movie standards this one didn't have much of a story but it was fun in a video game kind of way. I liked how they brought back a few familiar faces but most of them didn't get to do much. This one plays most like a video game and I'll give Paul W.S. Anderson credit for coming up with a way to replicate the feel of playing video games with the use of multiple levels and environments. Sienna Guillory looked pretty hot. Jovovitch's Alice is looking more like Beckinsale's Selene these days
