Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

I have good memories about that movie The Phantom.

Bad writing and subpar special effects ruin the movie for me. A key scene in the movie just kills it for me.

That scene when the alien is dying should have been played 100 percent straight in order to allow us to feel the seriousness of the situation but it wasn't. You had Hal making jokes and that just pissed me off.

I hardly remember much about this movie so it's pretty much a waste of time to remark about anything positive.

While GL was horrible, I kinda disagree.

The Guardians believed Paralax to be powerful enough to destroy their entire Corps (which he can, because he did it in the comics), the only reason they even sent 5 guys at all was because Sinestro begged them to.

If anything, it doesn't make sense why they sent those guys at all when they knew exactly how powerful he was.

Who cares really though? :funny:

I don't even know why I brought it up.

Sunshine.

I liked the concept, and Evans was great in it, but I think it suffered from a mediocre script and equally mediocre direction.

Phantom of the Opera (2004)

After discussing Anne Hathaway and Emmy Rossum's singing abilities in the "Les Miserables" thread, I popped this film in and watched it. It's been a while since I've last seen it, but it's not a bad movie. The big problem Joel Schumacher and Andrew Lloyd Webber have is the pacing and length of the film... it feels like they were unwilling to cut out more songs or cut out redundant characters to move the film along. Minnie Driver's Carlotta is obnoxious and grinds the film to a screeching halt, and Madame Giry's backstory is useless. Cutting or minimizing the screentime of those two alone would've made the film run a bit more faster.

The big star of this film is Emmy Rossum and the staggering production design and cinematography. Rossum is utterly magnificent and spell-binding in "Angel of Music", "Phantom of the Opera" and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" (and you can tell Anne Hathaway would've done gangbusters here too). Gerald Butler is decent as the Phantom, but he really should've taken singing lessons a good 3-4 months before shooting began. He fares okay, but his inexperience shows, especially compared to Rossum and Patrick Wilson in "All I Ask of You". Speaking of Wilson, the poor man here is miscast. He just doesn't look right in the part.

The main attraction is the musical numbers. Fast-forward to those, and the movie is a lot better for it. The non-singing filler is a drag, even though Schumacher tries his best to make it cinematic.

6/10

You sure it's not worth a 5.6?

Piranha 3DD

1.5/5

Ugh. This is what I'm sure many of us feared Aja's Piranha would be. Just total amateur hour hackwork, cheap, lazy and witless. And, man oh man, does it feature a downgrade from the insane Saving Private Ryan D-Day-esque close of the first film. This one amounts to a couple dozen blood-covered extras splashing about in a pretty empty pool pretending to be eaten by piranhas that the studio was too cheap to actually put on screen. Embarrassing straight-to-DVD-quality crap.

There are a couple amusing gore moments, although they don't really involve piranhas. And the good one that does, makes no flipping sense. At all. It feels like an idea Gulager had for a while and just decided to shoe-horn in here.

As for nudity, I'd argue there's probably a bit more than the first. But nothing to match Kelly Brook and Riley Steele's underwater duet. Mostly just clumsy shots of naked extras thrown in sporadically. No actual characters get naked.

The young cast is pretty uniformly terrible. And there are two dudes that look identical to one another, and both play nerds with girl problems. Kind of confusing. As for the celeb cameos, Lloyd repeats his previous performance for too long, Busey is wasted, and Hasselhoff runs rampant to really unfunny effect. God, if I never see another Baywatch parody I'll die happy. Rhames is at least amusing, although I don't understand why he'd be hanging out with Paul Sheer's porn filmmaker dude...

I dunno, if you, like I, can find even slight joy in even the lamest killer fish movies, this one won't bore you. But it's completely and utterly disposable, and a wild fall from the last Piranha flick

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I really liked it! Much better than expected.

Project X

Kinda iffy on this film, it felt like if they combined Chronicle and Superbad into one film but take away all likeability and some humor. Some parts I liked, like the leading up to the party and the craziness of the party itself. The part where this falls apart completely is how they ended it. It felt like no one changed or cared what just happened after the party ended. It's a big meh.
5.5/10

Mission Impossible : Ghost Protocol - I liked the focus on a new team and the stunt work is impressive. This is a great addition to the series.

Goon -
This is one of the best sports comedies I've seen in a while.

We need to talk about Kevin - Tilda Swinton gives a very convincing performance and the actor playing Kevin is chilling. It's a little slow at first but more engrossing as it progresses.

Snow White and the Huntsman 7/10

Primal Fear (1996)
Good movie, everyone's great in it but Ed Norton steals the show. I'm not gonna easily forget his Aaron/Roy... The twist ending raises a few questions though.
- 3/5

Falling Down (1993)
Here's the proof that Joel Schumacher is not a hack. This time around is Michael Douglas who steals the show: he's the villain, but let's be honest, who hasn't felt like him at some point in his life?
- 3/5

This film never gets old. To quote Ash, this film is:

Perfect organism.
