Who do you want to see as Captain Marvel?

I think it's a combination of many things: her looks (she looks very much the part), her acting and her ability to do action/ physical stuff. Plus she does have a great natural charisma and personality, is popular and is the ideal age (not too young and not too old). She's my top choice over the likes of Margot Robie, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Katie Sackhoff etc.

Thanks, Its been awhile since I've watched Chuck, I'll rewatch it. I guess her role in 24 left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

thanks for the feedback.

Are we seeing Yvonne being pushed by some fans because of her acting ability? Or looks? or the franchises she was a part of that has a huge following (Chuck/Mass Effect)

I legitimately think she's a solid talent and would like to see her get a shot at the big time. And I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it when people insinuate the only reason you're a fan is because she's hot (not you; you were diplomatic about it. But it happens a lot, mostly by people who haven't actually seen her in anything but still feel like they need to not only weigh in but take a big dump on your selection)

Like Dark Raven, she's also my top pick. I just don't think the odds are very good.

I think a lot of actors/ actresses can have one role where it leaves a sour taste in your mouth - even the best actors. It can depend on the writing, and also not everyone is suited to absolutely every role. Doesn't mean they couldn't be good in another one.

I thought Yvonne was quite good on 24, actually. I was worried her character was there to be a Renee Walker re-tread, but once I decided she wasn't going to be a love interest for Jack, I really started to like her. She got a lot of dramatic material work with in the 2nd half of the season and I thought she handled it really well. She certainly fared better than Sackhoff on that show, who was saddled with one of the worst characters ever.

Whatever females are cast in superhero films should get DD implants and multiple ribs removed from now on so they look like the characters!!!

****! Tony Stark is hotter in the comics than Robert Downey Jr but I wouldn't trade his casting for anything!

Um...let's try and bring it back a little please.

So what about photon? Should she appear straight away or be saved for a sequel. I love monica and I can see her being an agent of sword

Fixed. I think.

She's called Spectrum now (Genis took Photon from her too, funny enough). I think Monica is more a sequel thing. That Mar-Vell relationship seems like a big deal. And while Monica and Carol are definitely friends... they're not really close friends like Tony and Rhodey or Steve and Sam, are they? Maybe they should be for the MCU though.

Cameo in the 1st and proper role in the post IW sequel.

I've just had enough of the blatant sexism when fanboys talk about who deserves to play female superheroes. The way women are drawn in comic books is so absurd that NO ONE will look exactly like them, especially if you want a legitimately talented and charismatic actress. Get the **** over it!!! Don't mess with me on this issue...TRUST.

Male superheroes are drawn completely over the top too. And if you check the solo casting threads for various films physique is always one of the most talked about issues.

And they always get the gratuitous shirtless scenes to show off the male musculature.I'm sure whoever gets the role of CM will have exactly one inch of skin showing above the collar bone in the movie.

But no one says oh this person couldn't play the role because they're not hot enough. Plus when they draw male physique they tend to make them powerful not like they are smuggling pillows down their shirt

I agree it's very different in casting threads for women than it is for men. In male casting threads people cast academy award winning actors. For the female characters they post supermodel pictures

Not that I think I've said anything about an actress's attractiveness in this thread, and not that I think an actress needs to be hot in order to be a good Captain Marvel, but it's very unlikely I would criticize a male actor for not being hot enough since I'm straight and male. I mean, unless attractiveness was inherent to the role, and the actor in question obviously didn't fit the bill. A fugly James Bond having women swoon over him would be pretty weird, but what do I care whether Tony Stark is good looking or not?

What straight (or bisexual) women and gay (or bisexual) men want in their superheroes is up to them.

It's a widespread Hollywood problem for the most part. I can name dozens of well respected, award-winning actors who get tons of work that are ugly as sin, and even more that are merely average. And most A-list actors continue to get leading roles as they age well in to their 40s and 50s. The same just isn't true for women. Looks matter a lot more for women in Hollywood, and whether that's what Hollywood itself wants or what society as a whole demands is up for debate. It's a combination of both imo.

But thinking random models and C and D list actresses are more deserving for what may end up being Marvel's main female superhero than the likes of Blunt, Chastain, and Theron because they're not hot enough or too old? Give me a break. And those women are all GORGEOUS anyway which makes it even more absurd. I've had ENOUGH.

EXACTLY!

And I brought up Robert Downey Jr because he doesn't have an amazing physique. But I doubt many regret his casting and the success he's brought to the character. The comments about age are ridiculous when three of the original Avengers lineup are currently in their 40s, two of which are pushing 50, and plenty of people find all three attractive.

I'm not saying people like Kathy Bates or Meryl Streep should be among everyone's top choices for Carol just because they're talented, but Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, etc aren't exactly hideous and past their expiration date  Genuine talent and commanding screen presence are VERY necessary factors, unless they want their female driven film to be a dud.

wtf brought this latest rant on? Can't you people get along for five minutes?

Everyone just can't accept the fact Carol shouldn't be any older than 18 and should be 10/10 knockout gorgeous :argh:

:oldrazz:

Heh... All this talk about male vs. female casting reminds me.... Have you looked at some of the Benny CumberBotulism reactions in the casting threads for Doctor Strange? Those are the closest I've seen to people saying a male actor isn't hot enough for a particular role.

That being said, I get the point about fan casting female heroes vs. male heroes, though I could more or less get on board with most of the choices in this thread.
