Homecoming Who should be the Villain in Spider-Man (2017)? - Part 2

Excatly, just because a Spidey villain is not trying to take over the world, despite mean anyone besides a super die hard Spidey fan would want to see a villain rob banks for two hours, you can't base 3 acts and climax on that. That is why Shocker or Prowler would not be a good choice for a Big Bad, they would not provide a truly cinematic experience. those guys would work best as henchmen. There is no real stakes with a villain who does nothing but commit petty thievery for 2 hours, which seems to be lost on some people. You could give Prolwer some characterization and make a morally conflicted henchman who ultimately rebels against his more ruthless boss.

That is why I suggested Mysterio be a true psychopath with schemes that invoke psychological horror and his ruthless nature means he is willing to kill dozens of people just to feed his desire for fame.

People here have said that is not true to the comics, but I ask which comics, because it seems like Mysterio is a rather inconsistent character in the comics, there is no "true to the comics" version of Mysterio, because the writers have not invested much in giving him a defined personality. People have said Mysterio shouldn't kill in the film because he is not a murderer in the comics, which is not true, because I know at least one story where he kills people (Guardian Devil, I also think he has killed people during some of the Sinister Six stories). Also how is Mysterio supposed to be menacing if he is unwillng to kill, even sympathetic villains in these movies are willing to kill to achieve their goals.

If Mysterio is just some idiot who spends 20 million dollars in special effects to steal 1 million dollars from a bank, why should I care about him

In the Netflix series, Kilgrave and Kingpin weren't trying to take over the world, but they were committing crimes more serious then petty thievery, I want Mysterio to seem really menacing not just be some goofball with a gimmick.

Personally I would like to see a really menacing and unsympathetic Mysterio, to contrast all those other sympathetic villains we seen and Mysterio has another petty thief is not menacing or truly unsympathetic.

exactly.. even the biggest villain could have a small story... look at The Night Gwen Stacy died... massive personal story, and no grand big diabolical scheme to blow up the city... and it was spidey's arch nemesis..

all they are saying is "it's not going to be a big avengers level event" likely also re-assuring us it will be nothing like Movie Electro , Movie Lizard, or Movie Ocks plans from the previous films... that were all about attacking the city.

But it in no way rules out any of his villain roster.. aside from Ock who is the most likely to want to cause a city wide panic and disorder.

Alright, this is my final word on Mr. Negative and why he could carry a movie:

---Visually striking appearance that will stick in viewers minds
---Compelling mystery and backstory as to his identity
---Fascinating duel personality between Martin Lee/Mr. Negative
---Ability to control and empower various low level villains (Prowler, Shocker, Electro, oe even Cloak and Dagger, who he has close ties to)

All this would go together for an excellent movie. I don't plan to talk about him anymore, because he's not one of my top picks for the villain. But I just get a little irritated when people start insulting the creative ideas of myself and other members.

and if you know anything about how photo-negatives look, you'd understand his look would almost be impossible to pull off in a real world setting. with real world light... im not even sure it's possible to make him look realistic in a real world setting. the closest would be Dr. Manhattan from The Watchmen.. and he glowed. not sure if we really need a glowing Mr. Negative.

and well.. the rest... not all that interesting to me. I don't need to see any of spideys villains "negified" him empowering characters happened in the books to shake things up and make them a little different.. i mean really.. all they did was swap cloak and daggers powers in an attempt to spice up there stories *eyeroll*

personally i do still want to see goblin done again and done right but first we need to do at least the first two films with fresh new story and villains yet to make it on the screen. Then do goblin story for 3rd film, or like i brought up make 3rd film a sinister 6 plot. We can easily build it up over the first two films. Have a shadowy figure pulling the strings(kingpin/doc ock as master planner identity) do 2 villains per film and at end of the film they get locked up in jail. Then the 3rd film they break out via the 5th member of the group and the leader is revealed and there you go a built up story and you are good to go.

Same here. Vulture or Scorpion for me.

Thinking of how much fun I had with Scorpion in the old Spidey PS1/Dreamcast/N64/PC game and TAS, I think he'd be a fine villain in the new series.

[BLACKOUT]Plus if I can't get Lizard/Kraven paired up in a film, Scorpion is a good replacement for Lizard in that scenario. :oldrazz:[/BLACKOUT]

not sure if i agree with that... he's a mechanical beast.. not a rabid animal. Lizard/Vermin/Stergon/Iquana/Man-Wolf sure...

i mean saying Scorpion is an equal replacement basically means "anyone with an animal name is a replacement" and that's not the case.. not in the nature of the story.. it's a tormented individual who is considered more beast than man.. somewhat defenseless and helpless.. I mean.. ur logic makes it sound like Vulture or The Jackal are just as easily interchangeable with Vermin.

the reason people pick lizard to replace vermin is it's a similar tormented trope of a character.

I basically agree with everything you've said in this thread lately spideyboy_1111.

still for me i dont want scorpion or kraven/chamelon combo for first film. I want to build up the public image and jjj hate on spidey for a film. Before we get those guys. Which is why i rather see mysterio or vulture first.

which imo Scorpion does exactly that.. this film could deal with Civil War fallout.. NYC is a city worried about the heroes.. (this could all tie into the netflix shows too, make heroes kinda wanted criminals)

So Spidey has to deal with that, while Jameson helps fund a program to bring down the wall-crawler... the spider-slayer program. robots at first. Mac Gargan is just a criminal who spidey catches and whom he gets locked away early on in the film. But becomes the ultimate spider-slayer "Scorpion"

this all merges incredibly nicely.. it basically wraps it's self in a nice little bow... i mean the whole conception of Scorpion is that he is a spider-slayer. He was created because of the fact the scorpion is a natural predator of the spider.

How do you want vulture to look?

I imagine he'd be similar to Falcon, but with more jagged, menacing wings. Do you think they'd go with the classic green or modern red & black, though? Before the deal, I'd never have expected green, but now that it's with Marvel, I'd say it's more likely, especially to distinguish from Falcon.

it does but i would like to see a little build up in a first film then going straight to it with no development and buildup on spidey side of characters.

you also have to keep the audiences interest. I don't think you need 2 films building up JJ viewing spidey as a menace.. it should be from the get go

Only need build up of JJJ hate for Scorpion. He's the villain that Jonah directly involved with.

yeah.. and Scorpions Hate on JJJ needs no build up. He blames him for turning him into scorpion. No Build up needed.

as for JJJ's hate for Spidey.. well.. spidey has been at it for at least a year come civil war.... sooo he's had time for that. It doesn't need built up

Vulture, please.

i just dont want oh he is already hating spidey already and the public hates him and we dont see any of this its already there but we didnt get to see any of that i dont like just coming into it with no build up. And we didnt get to see these characters interactions yet. That is why i rather take first film to build up that aspect. Before jumping right into jjj hate and him making the slayers and scorpion stuff.

Sounds boring
