Who will be Strange? - Part 3

I really like the casting of Benedict. I guess Marvel will make the announcement official tomorrow?

I never get the surfer dude quips about Keanu. He didn't act like a surfer dude in The Matrix, The Gift, Devil's Advocate, Speed, The Replacements, Something's Gotta Give... the only time he really acted like a surfer dude was when he played Ted, and it was of course entirely appropriate there. Even in Point Break (where he actually surfed) he didn't really act like a surfer dude because he was an undercover cop.
Except he does sound like a surfer in everyone of those films. It is in his inflection. I love Keanu, but there is reason he is so hilarious in Dracula and Much Ado.

He doesn't have to act like a surfer dude. His monotone dunce voice just does it for him. I can't take him seriously in any role with that voice. Doctor Strange would become a joke with Keanu playing that role. Sorry if it hurts the feelings of some of you but that's the way I see it.

Remember how awful he was in Dracula?

Anyway I'm feeling apathetic about the casting announcement.
Maybe I should get around to watching Sherlock.

Now that we finally have our Dr. Strange, there's only one question to ask:

How about in a Strange film with Cumby, that they show him being overall trained by the Ancient One (The Mickey to Strange's Rocky) but that we also see him learning specific things that pertain to magic from the entities he usually invokes in his casting. Each one gives him a piece of wisdom and power as he goes through his training. Then when the time comes those freaky spells will have meaning to the audience, and when it comes time to battle the villain in the end, we are all giving and internal air punch as he says something like, "By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggath, by the Vishanti, by the Shades of the Seraphim, through the power of the All Seeing Eye of Agamotto... I exile you to the Dark Dimension, Dread Dormmamu... And know that you will never be welcome in this plane as long as I am Sorcerer Supreme!" because we know the journey Strange went on to gain his power and wisdom.

I have never seen Dracula and this isn't going to make me watch the film any time soon....have mercy :funny:

Alright let's get that Dr Strange forum going!

Saw a girl on twitter post something about being upset at hollywood whitewashing because Cumberbatch was cast as Dr. Strange.

Okay…. though I was all up on wanting non-white actors (and non-male actresses!) to play Strange, that is just a bizarre complaint about Cumbertwerking's casting.

Oh, Internet! Never ever change!

Not a Marvel fan...there I said it ! But big props to Marvel/Disney for this casting choice. I used to really enjoy Dr. Strange, back in the 80's. And Cumberbatch is such a good choice, I'll have to go see it now.

Nicely played Marvel, nicely played indeed.

Oddly enough this was the most decent Dr. Strange tribute I could find on Youtube. It's okay, but could have been far better. [YT]pvEWTgoGlsI[/YT]

Apparently I will have to turn in my lady card, because I find Cumberbatch so unattractive. I wanted Keanu but even Isaac or Ramirez would gave been better than this news. Kind of ruined my day, to be honest.:csad:

I find Cumberbatch unattractive, too. The rabid fangirl drooling over him (and Huddleston, to an extent) is a mystery to me. Apparently plenty of fanboys are drooling over him, too, judging by this thread.

This casting leaves me indifferent. Marvel could have done worse, but they could also have done better.

I'm super excited for it. He's the best possible choice. I wonder if he will get to keep his accent?

I wonder if we will get a doctor strange forum now?

Can a casting choice be both boring and fantastic? Apparently.

Hope he does keep his accent. Cumberbatch as a British Stephen Strange makes a whole lot more sense than trying to doctor up the usual New Yorker background. Sure, Cumby would have no trouble playing an American; but going ahead and making him British would be a lot more organic. And the Sanctum would feel more ancient, sophisticated, spooky and elegant if it was located in London rather than Greenwich Village.

I think Wong should be a younger actor. Harry Shum Jr. from Glee and Revenge of the Green Dragons might be a good pick
I'll be literally doing cartwheels if Cumberbatch gets the job. Fantastic choice.

(So, in June I wished we'd get a Cumberbatch as Strange and Mads Mikkelsen as Mordo) - Surely I can't be that lucky?!
Seeing as Cumberbatch worked with his brother Lars on Sherlock they could get him is Mads isn't available. Lars is underrated.
The only movie i remember seeing him in is 12 Years a Slave. Other than that i can't recall seeing him in anything…but he seems like a great ,reputed actor.
You should check out Four Lions, Atonement & Starter For 10 not just for Cumberbatch but because they are good movies.

Once again disappointed by Dr. Strange casting news. I thought I was getting filet mignon, but instead someone decided chicken pot pie would be good enough.

Cumberbatch is the acting equivalent of chicken pot pie. Brilliant.

I've seen him suggested for Brainiac, Martian Manhunter, The Joker, and even Batman at one point.

Of those four, the first two wouldn't be terrible (particularly the Martian Manhunter). However, none of the four are suggestions for the MCU :p

Reed Richards doesn't count either (although I could see him for that role). I've never seen him suggested for Hank Pym, but I'll take people's word for it. If that's the case, that's the first "bad suggestion/fancasting" in the MCU I've seen for him.

Now I can picture something like this:

:)

While Cumberbatch wasn't my first choice, I have no complaints. He'll do a great job, I'm sure. He can carry a movie, deliver those strange Strange lines without sounding too awkward, and he has a huge fanbase of his own, all of which make this a good move by Marvel.

So if they have got around the Hamlet thing. Then would that mean Dr Strange is getting delayed?
