The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Who would be the best MJ?

The Ultimate vs. 616 debate again? Yeah, people preferring 616 does not necessarily mean that they hate ultimate. Anyway, Webb's Gwen is partially influenced by Ultimate MJ, so I don't think they'd go that route with MJ. If they were influenced by any ultimate character, I think it would be ultimate Gwen. But still I'm hoping for something more along the lines of 616 or Spectacular in terms of personality, interests, and overall aesthetic.

Preferring one version of the character doesn't mean you hate the other. And I've yet to see any evidence that the difference between their appearances is due to anything other than personality and age. after all, adult Peter had no problem recognizing the 15 year old alternate version of his wife in the Spider-Men crossover.

oooh very nicely pointed out! peter and mj did meet in college, so who's to say ultimate mj is that different from 616 mj at that age if we never really saw 616 mj then? it's an unfair comparison.

^ You know I'm actually not sure whether the Ultimate characters are meant to physically look different from their 616 counterparts. Peter was able to recognize her so the physical differences could all be due to age, personality, clothing tastes, etc. Then again, in that same issue Gwen scoffs at the idea of MJ being a supermodel whereas 616 easily turns heads (we saw her during her younger years in Parallel Lives where she was doing just that), so maybe it's only just a slight resemblance. Certainly 616 MJ and Ultimate have vastly different personalities.

Either way, (unless they make her significantly younger than Peter) she'll probably be as old as her 616 counterpart in Webb's universe.

The TASM-Verse's MJ can still be seen as a background character in the armored car scene, so it's unlikely that they'll 'revamp' the character significantly even if Shailene opts out of her contract, and some of the actresses here are far too dissimilar to Shailene to be considered legitimate candidates for the role.

In order to remove her from the shots we saw, they would have to use CGI, and it is extremely doubtful they'd pony up the money for something so insignificant.

If she returns, it'll be a neat little MJ cameo in TASM2. If not, then it's just the back of some random waitress.

The only way that MJ's presence even as a background character in TASM2 would be invalidated is if they completely revamped her character and retconned her backstory, which I really can't see them doing even if Shai doesn't come back.

Jazz is right. Unless Shailene comes back (and that's unfortunately doubtful), the brief shot of her isn't MJ. There's no character to revamp or retcon because, as far as they're concerned, MJ has yet to be introduced in any capacity.

If the creator of a story in any medium removes a character, but leaves sequences or plot threads they were a part of, then that character still wasn't in it. The final product is what matters when it comes to these things. Not the creative process.

I was referring to the entire clip itself. It's been in numerous trailers, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it'll make it into the final cut of the film. I wasn't trying to say that they would CGI Shailene out of the shot. Lol

Anyway, there is no MJ 'backstory'. There's nothing to revamp or retcon. Webb & Co. felt that the character's introduction negatively impacted the film and she was completely cut out of the narrative. She hasn't been introduced in the TASM-verse and her introduction is being rewritten for TASM3. She's no longer a background character. Shailene's role in TASM2 (if we end up seeing her at all) would be nothing more than an extra in a sandwich shop. So far she's only in one shot and we don't even see her face. The audience won't even know that she was originally meant to be MJ.

The more I think about it, I really think she'd make a killer MJ. In everything I've seen her in, she really has that rebellious, flirtatious, party girl persona, down to a tee.

I don't think Sony would consider her though, considering she's mostly known for her TV work but just something that crossed my mind.

Ashley Benson would look really good for it, but are they even recasting? I was under the impression that Woodley was locked down for the role either way. Just because her part in this movie was cut, doesn't affect her being MJ in the third?
