The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Who would be the best MJ?

is it weird/bad that i think jane levy is less attractive than shaliene woodley?

so many detractors when the latter got cast, yet heaps of people want levy as MJ.

is it simply because she's a red head in suburgatory?

it would be hilarious if she gets the role and it leads to more hate lol.
isn't her whole thing on suburgatory, suppose to be that she is a very plain, average looking girl

i haven't properly watched an episode of the show before, but yeah, maybe.

To each is own. I think she's very pretty. She can pull off the attitude and she was enthusiastic about potentially playing the character. I don't think she'd get hate either since she's obviously a fan favorite and there's that constant connection between her and Emma Stone (who everyone adores), but who knows what would happen. However, like Woodley she'd probably be closer to Ultimate than to 616. She wouldn't be my first choice for the role. I'd go for Robbie, Daddario, or Breckenridge first.

Btw, any more updates with Sarah Gadon? I'm guessing that her role as "Oscorp Artificial Intelligence Officer" will be extremely minimal since we haven't seen/heard anything of it yet.

If Shailene can't come back, my choice would be Mary Elizabeth Winstead. For me, she's every bit the heart-throb that Emma Stone is. Seeing her with MJ's bright red hair would be awesome.

I feel like people have been suggesting MEW for 20 years. And I'm only 19.

If you compiled a complete list of every suggestion that she be Mary Jane, it probably WOULD take you 20 years to read all of them. lol

Unless Webb and Co. change things up considerably, we're much more likely to get an actress who doesn't fit the 'bombshell' mold but instead is closer to Woodley in the beauty department (a beautiful woman, but not a 'bombshell'), which, in my mind, means actresses like Mary Elizabeth Winstead aren't likely to be in the running.

I'm sort of indifferent towards MEW as MJ, but I can't see them rejecting her for that reason.

With the Woodley casting (and even Kirsten Dunst back in the day) , it's clear to me that the studio is looking for the next 'it girl'. An up and coming 20 something year old actress with a growing fan base. Someone who is attractive, charismatic, talented, and popular like Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence. Around the time that TASM2 was being cast Shailene Woodley was just starting to hit it big. I don't think that they're going to limit the potential candidates based on 'Shailene's beauty type' or 'mold' especially since:

a. Shailene's scenes won't be used, so this isn't an Elisabeth Shue/Claudia Wells or Rachelle Lefevre/Bryce Dallas Howard type situation. Heck, even Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal aren't exactly the same beauty type. Either way, they don't have to follow a 'look' established in a previous film.

b. something like 'bombshell' can be played up or toned down (ie: Stone in Gangster Squad vs. Stone in TASM1, Scarlett Johansson in Don Jon vs. Scarlett Johansson in We Bought a Zoo, Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls vs. Rachel McAdams in About Time, MEW in Scott Pilgrim vs MEW in Sky High, etc.) How MJ will actually end up looking on screen is another story, but I don't think that the set pics are really any indication of what we'll see in TASM3 considering that her introduction is getting a rewrite.

I really have no idea who would make the best MJ. I've seen lots of good choices but I think one of the most important ideas is how well that particular actress is able to come in after Gwen, assuming she does indeed die in this film or the next. It's gonna be difficult to top the already noteworthy chemistry of Andrew and Emma. Really difficult. But here's one thing I do know. When I see Emma on screen, she makes me believe that Gwen is there, that she actually exists. Whatever actress comes in to play MJ, I want to have the same belief. There she is, now that's MJ. And although looks do play a part in this to some degree it has more to do with fulfilling the right persona.

Well said! Agreed 100%.

 I'm really hoping that Webb & Co. are able to bring MJ to life like they did with Gwen. No pressure.

Sorry, but it's kinda true.

Alexandra Breckenridge is 31 years old, and although Andrew can pull off the younger than he is look, she can't:

And with these films coming out every two years or so, they will want to cast someone who is in their 20's who can stick around a little while in the role.

Now Winstead is 29, and I'll admit I was surprised by that, but like Andrew I don't think she looks her age:

My pick or Alexis Knapp is an actress who is 24:

Someone asked why I like Knapp, other than the fact that she's hot and fits the 616 concept of MJ. Well, it's because when I first saw her in Pitch Perfect she really stood out to me. Initially it was, of course, because of her looks. She has a 5'-9" dancers body, that matches what MJ should be. Further, her personality was sweet. When she said "cuticle carre and the e network" she came off very fun and loving (go watch Pitch Perfect if you haven't). Besides this, it makes sense that Webb would want up and coming actresses, and Knapp is exactly that. Pitch Perfect was her big start, but she's becoming more known. Cavemen, VampU, Super Fun Night, Project X and now Ground Floor.

But I also have to admit that Jennifer Lawrence could be an amazing choice! She's 23 and is such a big name, it could only help the franchise.

J-Law already has way too much going on to sign on to another big action franchise.

Thinking outside the box a bit, how about Kimberly Crossman, Ciara Hanna, or Christina Masterson?

I would really dislike seeing Jennifer Lawrence as MJ. No way Jose.

People have been suggesting MEW as far back (from memory) from Spider-Man 4 when people were either suggesting that she be re-cast as Mary Jane from Kirsten Dunst or they were saying if they get a set of newcomers that she be Mary Jane. That was sorta 2008/9/10 time. The fact that people are still suggesting her in 2014 is baffling to me. While she is 29, one year younger than Andrew, we all know often girls mature faster than boys and Andrew, is very young looking for his age. I mean he looks about the same age as Emma Stone who is 5 years younger than him. But I don't think they should go for someone 8 years younger than him like Shailene, because that's just a bit too much IMO. Someone in the 24/25/26 range. Because when ASM3 rolls around they will be college aged/ full time employment aged. So they'd be young adults. Shailene could still physically portray a teenager in school in the next film. That's not really needed.

Although Margot Robbie looks very mature, she is only 23 and could be dressed down a little to look about 20. Even without make-up she would still be a knockout. If there was pictures of her on-set without make-up on there wouldn't be any complaining there! She is getting some buzz from her role in The Wolf of Wall Street and is looking to be the next 'It' girl in Hollywood. And as an added bonus, she looks nothing like Emma Stone, unlike Jane Levy.

Another thing I want to add, I don't think Mary Jane should be just a damsel-in-distress or girlfriend used to blackmail/ hurt Peter/ Spider-Man by holding her as bait. In the way that Kirsten Dunst was. I think she should be more empowered this time around and not be a victim. I think this can be done by giving her more of an arc and character significance.

I think they tried to do that in Spider-Man 3 when Kirsten Dunst asked the producers to be used for more than just bait. They gave her an arc, but was portrayed in more of a negative passive way, unlike her character in the comics. And she was used as bait in the end anyway.

They have a chance to give MJ a decent arc now and not to have her be just the victim love interest.

In this franchise obviously Gwen is going to be much more of a victim because she will be the one who dies. No matter how much they are trying to promote the whole 'Gwen is smarter/ better than Peter angle.'

Webb is known for his strong female characters, so I don't think that will happen.

Thinking outside the box?
Then what about these ladies?

Deborah Ann Woll
- natural red head
- age: 29
- known for: True Blood
mj-deborah.jpg

Helena Mattsson
- somewhat of a young Charlize Theron
- age: 28
- known for: 666 Park Avenue
mj-helena.jpg

Emilia Clarke
- good looking with white hair, why not with red? ;)
- age: 25
- known for: Game of Thrones
mj-emilia.jpg

Ashley Benson
- has that feisty charisma about her that an MJ needs
- age: 23
- known for: Pretty Little Liars
mj-ashley.jpg

Despite all of these choices, I still want Shailene to come back as MJ in TASM3 :csad: I really fell for her...

I can see these ladies working.
I feel like I should update my list.
