SpideyInATree, you seem to do this in every thread. When someone popular's getting bashed, all you can say is how popular they are or how much money they make, and how everyone who's bashing him is just jealous when it really could be that they just think he sucks

I do it in EVERY thread?

That's not all I say. I said that in THIS thread. And I said it because a thread like this practically gets made every week. It's gotten past the point of ridiculous.

This whole "Bendis sucks" movement didn't start until the untimely demise of the, yes, ficitional character Hawkeye. Nobody ever had too much of a problem with the guy.

Yeah, some people don't like his writing. I'm not saying that everybody who doesn't like him is "jealous". I'm talking about the people who think that by making threads on a weekly basis and bashing the guy everyday makes them LOOK like they are JEALOUS and HATEFUL and wonder why people call them "fanboys".

Just sounds to me like I hit another nerve on you. Nobody else attacked me like this, they actually...you know...debated me on it.

Same could be said for you. Do you just go into threads and have nothing good to say about anything? I mean for a guy who really disliked All Star Batman and Frank Miller you certainly liked spending time in the All Star Batman thread talking about the book and Frank Miller.

You didnt hit a nerve...i'm just making an observation. From posts of other guys here, and what i've seen, your MO is to defend attacked writers or books by talking about how popular or sucessful they are. You've done this on the spidey boards from what i've heard, you did it in the all star batman thread, and now you're doing it here.

I do go into threads with positive things to say....its just that for some reason, people only notice when i complain.

I just share a different opinion. I've explained myself plenty of times. I can't help it that most people on these boards can't either understand where I'm coming from or just realize that I don't take my comic book reading as seriously as some people.

You go into threads with positive things to say? HA! Not the ones I got into! Especially not the All Star Batman thread, heh. Sheesh.

yes, i do have positive things to say. just because you havent read them dosent mean i havent

All I've seen is negative comments, Mr. The Batman. I guess I should check out that pesky "post history" that you used to dribble on and on about? :)

Don't worry, Bats, Spidey's done it to me too. What he seems to fail to grasp is that when a book or creator is DISLIKED, NEGATIVE COMMENTS will be expressed in threads dedicated to said things, rather than creatin' WHOLE NEW THREADS in which to do it. And when an opinion comes up that is disagreed with, it will come up sometime after said opinion is given. Apparently we're sposed to like everythin' or shut up about it.

BTW, I got my names mixed up. SUE ME. They're both good writers so hey, it can happen. (GASP! Was that...a POSITIVE COMMENT?! Oh noooooo!) What, you never misspoke? Dumbass.

And I'd love to know what classic Spidey YOU'VE read that makes this series feel so much like it. This ain't classic Spidey.

Yes, I know negative comments get expressed. This entire Superhero Hype message board is nothing but a plethora of negative comments.

But how many negative comments can you keep making about a person until the person doing the accusing or the "opinion maker" starts to sound like a broken record?

I've said it a million times in this thread already. Yes, dislike the guy because he KILLED your favorite character. Dislike him because you don't think he writes GOOD dialogue. And all that good stuff. But when you keep going and going and going and going and going and going and for over 2 years it's been nothing but the same bull****...what do you want? You're not gaining any kind of ground or changing anything with your opinion. So really the person is making themselves look like a hateful, jealous person who can do nothing but dislike a guy over a comic book.

There is sharing an opinion. But there is a line between letting your opinion be known and then BEATING A DEAD HORSE.

See, now that I can agree with. But as Bats said I still see ya use the "popular" argument a lot. Use that one a bit more maybe it'd have more weight. Popularity doesn't always mean something's good. Look at all the popular trash on TV!

And just an FYI, I don't particularly care fer Hawkeye outside of Thunderbolts, so his death didn't bug me. The lame-ass way it was done, however... "My quiver's on fire! Let me ram into alien ships!" So I can pretty much empathize with Hawkeye fans, 'cause that was just lame.

But I don't use popularity in my arguement. Only thing I say in respect to that is usually, "It's the most popular and you can't say any different".

This message board does not reflect the majority or minority of the opinion of the entire comic book reading community. This is not the know all and say all of comic book fans, heh.

It's but a small speck in the Internet where people can discuss comics and the movies, etc.

You say that's all I use? But it's not. When it comes to Bendis he IS one of the most popular and hottest writers. You CAN'T SAY THAT HE ISN'T! I'm not saying that it makes him good or should MAGICALLY change your opinion! I'm just stating it as a cold, hard fact. I've also said this in my OTHER posts.

Now I always bring up the popularity thing because there are people who DO like his writing and his work. There are people who blindly like everything the guy does and, hell, even worship the dude. They're just as guilty as the people who go on and on about how much he sucks. And that's the point of it. You've got one group going, "He rules" and then another group going "He Sucks" over and over and over again. That makes him POPULAR. And then there are people who are in between. They read some things, don't read others.

So, in closing, I'd like to point out that I like his writing. I enjoy Ultimate Spider-Man thoroughly and his Daredevil run was absolutely amazing and also got me into Daredevil. Powers is a fantastic book. But that's really what I mostly like from the guy. He's not perfect. He's not the best out there right now. But man, it gets real old seeing "Bendis teh suck!" over and over and over and over again like if they say it enough he'll go away or something. And then on the other hand there is the "Bendis is the savior of comics, everything he does is gold". And when does it come to the point where those people realize to themselves, "Wait, I'm basically worshipping a really ugly bald guy who writes fictional stories? Oh Man, I'm a ****ing dork!".

It goes both ways on the spectrum. But what The Batman needs to do are read my posts more carefully instead of picking out the things that he can just make a comment on. I didn't say because he was popular that it made him good. Just simply stating that he's a popular and hot comic book writer, and that's something that even the largest hater can't take away from the guy. The comic book world does not revolve around just a certain type of reader. If it did everybody here on this board would get exactly what they wanted anytime they wanted it.

Psst! Speakin' of reading posts more carefully, I believe I said "a lot" and not "all". There's a teeeeeeny bit of difference.

And yeah, Daredevil was good 'cause he can do crime noir. NOT superheroes.

But The Batman was implying I did it all the time. :)

Behave people or I'll start handing out probation/bannings

um... whoever sed he's been at marvel for years was a-lyin. he got given ultimate spidey after powers' success, i believe. or daredevil... i dunno, but point is Bendis WAS fast-tracked through marvel. Despite how many years he's been in comics it was all indie before recently, which is why he often raves about how good his life is at the moment even when its bad -- he can now afford to do what he loves FOR A LIVING!! Im one of the readers that picked up New Avengers cos spidey was in it, but then i got into Powers and it's amazing. -- i love it and i have every issue to date bar about 4. i like bendis but he's no alan moore and he's not quite a legend. he's made some... mistakes. his dialogue is realistic as its not so corny but it DOES all sound the same.

You're surprised that a thread titled "Why Brian Michael Bendis sucks" devolved quickly? It was devolved at the first post! :)

He has been at Marvel for years now. Five/Six years to be exact. I don't see how people can still pass that off as 'recently'.

I disagree with Hawkeye's death being the beginning of the Bendis critique. Pretty much Wanda going off the deep end out of nowhere (YES, nowhere...she resolved her "insanity" quite awhile ago) was the beginning. Look, the man just writes superhero stories poorly. He may RULE at noir and crime stuff, but not big superhero stories.

I certainly don't HATE the man. I bought all of The Pulse, and it was quite good.

Pretty much, although I dunno if we can attribute that solely to Bendis or Marvel Editors takin' a coffee break to allow "creative freedom".
