So all the commercials for Dead Rising, and the demo, say "Available In Stores 8/8/06" So I called up all the stores around here, twice, once in the morning, and once afternoon to allow time for the UPS guy to get there with it as games sometimes ship. Both times "It's out tomorrow." WTF? If something is advertised to be out a certain day, I except it to f**king be out that day. This isnt the first time this has happened either, and I'm incredibly pissed off just on general principle. If these stupid companies mean "Shipping to stores on whatever date" why dont they say that? Why lie to everyone and say they're available that date when they're not?

The day that's advertised as the release date is the day that the games leave the warehouses and head for each individual stores. 90% of stores recieve the games the next day, but the other 10% either get it the same day or in the case of Alaska/Hawaii, it can take up to a week (and I'm not even factoring in shipping problems, which are at a scary level of commoness around this time of year). The publishers have no way to know exactly when a game wiill reach stores, so they just advertise the first day possible.

BECAUSE, SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD, IT'LL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DATE ADVERTISED.......JUST NOT IN EVERY STORE. IT PISSES ME OFF AS WELL, BUT IT'S A FACT I'VE COME TO ACCEPT.(

ACTUALLY, THAT WOULD BE THE "SHIP" DATE, WHICH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.....BUT YOU'RE PARTIALLY RIGHT.

That's what they always told us to say to customers at GameStop, because if you used the term "ship date" there was always the follow up question of "What does ship date mean?"

if movies and cds can come out on the same day everyweek, not "maybe that day, maybe up to a week after depending on where you live" there's no f**king reason game companies cant do the same thing

IT'S SAD THAT YOU HAVE TO ASSUME MOST OF YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE MORONS (EVEN THOUGH THEY LIKELY ARE), SO YOU GIVE THEM INCORRECT INFO, RATHER THAN JUST TELL THEM THE TRUTH. :o

I just don't get why they can't ship it earlier, like the do with movies and cds. It's just wierd that they still advertise it, despite it's never true.

CD's and movies sit in individual stores for up to 2 weeks before they're put out on the shelves. The same goes for the MAJOR games (Madden, Halo/Kingdom Hearts 2, etc.). I never really got an answer as to why they didn't do that with every game.

Yeah, the average customer is that dense. You know Dead Rising? I get the feeling it would've been a similar experience had I taken it to my former (Thank God) customers.

ALOT OF IT HAS TO DO WITH THE RETAILER. OFTEN, STORES LIKE WAL-MART OR TARGET, THAT MAY BE OPEN 24 HOURS, WAIT AND SHELVE "HIGH-DEMAND" ITEMS AFTER HOURS, WHICH OFTEN TRANSLATES TO A GAME GETTING LEFT IN STORAGE DURING AN ENTIRE DAY, EVEN THOUGH THE SHIPMENT CAME IN AT 7 A.M. THAT MORNING. I CAN GUARANTEE YOU I COULD PICK UP 'DEAD RISING' AT MY WAL-MART, IF I WENT OUT THERE AT ABOUT 10:30-12 TONIGHT, WHEN THEY START STOCKING; HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED THEM TODAY, I WAS TOLD "WE DON'T HAVE IT" AND "I'M NOT SURE WHEN WE'LL GET IT".......JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME THEY'VE SHELVED A GAME A DAY LATE.

exactly...all they have to say is "Available Everywhere the day after" or whatever, and I would be fine, but the fact that they lie about it gets me...and the fact that we all know they could have it out on the day they advertised it if they'd spend a few extra bucks on faster shipping, or hell, just street date everything and ship it the day before so everyone has it

The game industry is ridiculously cheap when it comes to that kind of stuff, because games only recently got to the potency that CD's and Movies have already. I'd guess that by the end of the generation, this will be a non-issue.

I'm a little agrivated. I took a trip to EB games today, expecting to leave with a copy of Dead Rising in my hands. Ofcorse, my store didn't get it in. Luckily, I did snag the last reserve in the store, so I'm garrunteed a copy tomorrow.

Ya know, I really hate to kill your joy...but I know for a fact you didn't get the "last" reserve in the store. Maybe you cut it close, but you could've probably walked in tommorow with no problem.

you didnt snag the last reserve in the store, EB, Gamestop, and Software Etc. are full of liars. They say that you should pre-order every single game that's ever coming out cause there's a shortage, and there never is. Even Halo 2 could be found at best buy, dozens of copies of the special edition...same with Prey recently, which our Gamestop said was gonna sell out...they're just trying to get you to buy from them, when pre-orders are actually totally pointless

Fact: Whenever a game is set to be released on a Tuesday, then that means you won't be able to get it till Wednesday.:(

I'm not even gonna try and defend the companies themselves, but don't get too pissed off at the people behind the registers. Most of them are really decent people who get seriously underpaid and then yelled at when they don't get enough reservations and subscriptions. And ultimately, the only reason they lie to the actual gamers is both because of habit and the fact that a lot you guys are sneaky (not to mention the threat of losing they're jobs). Do you NEED to reserve games? Not nearly as often as you're told. Does it hurt you to reserve games? No, and in some cases where the game is hard to find, in can come in handy.

Yeah at Gamespot, if you dont get a certain amount of reservations, you can get fired.

So lame.

It almost happened to me twice, saw it happen to 5 other people in a year and a half.

I'm not blaming the people, the entire pre-order concept is ******ed. Why not just order enough games for everyone?
