Schumacher's Batman&Robin was quite overcrowded with characters, so there was no character development. Bad acting. Incoherence in general. Spidey 3 runs the risk of following the same path if Raimi loses his focus on the characters rather than the spectacle. Spectacle is great if it has substance.

Come on...I don't think its even possible for SM3 to turn out like Batman & Robin, after all-Raimi is actually a reputable director. I mean at worst your likely looking at SM3 being no worse off than Batman Returns and X2 (both sequels and both can be argued as being not as good as the 1st), and thats only if it is less than stellar. But seriously, I don't think SM3 could ever come down with the batman & robin syndrom simply because Raimi cares too much about the story and characters. I'm sure that a lot of Schumaker's ideas looked pretty good on paper, but don't translate very well on to film and would likley work better in a cartoon. When you have gangs of thugs that hang out in condemned warehouses that are furnished with black lights, and who wear neon glow in the dark face paint and use neon colored glow sticks as weapons...they don't really come off as being very menasing. I think Raimi always did a good job of taking an over-the-top superhero and grounding him in the real world so that he seems believable to us while still retaining the elements that make him tick as a superhero. After the careful job Raimi did with SM 1 & 2, I have no reason to believe he will opperate any different in SM3...as far as the villans and plots go. I think that Schumaker's 2 batman films turned out the way they did, was because he didn't understand what batman was or the seriousness of all of the characters. I don't think Raimi would make that mistake...because after all, both SM films have been soley about the journey of Peter Parker as a superhero and as a yound man. I think that sandman will be the central villan...and if venom is in it at all...it will be a very small role. Personally I see this movie being more of a transformation phase and a set up for venom's role in a later movie. And if Venom is given a larger role, I would only think Raimi would do it if it suited the film...not to add to it. My only concern for even mentioning that there are 4 villans is that Raimi is getting pressure from the studio to include Venom based off his hype and popularity. But after the success of the 1st 2 films, I'm sure that columbia and marvel are more than pleased with the SM films he has made. I only hope that they get Raimi back for at least a 4th film before he calls it quits.

ehhh. i disagree. i enjoyed it, but it was the weakest entry story-wise. also, all the build-up of angel, juggernaut, beast, colossus, and the other newbies was completely unnecessary and a waste of time, cause they were only in the film for eye-candy purposes.

it was a cool story concept, with the cure and everything, but ratner did not pull it off well.

just my two cents. :xmen:

My thoughts exactly.

A grand total of 1 movie. The Phantom of the Opera. :)

I'll have to admit that I'm not too much a fan os Joel Schumacher, and its not because I think he ruined batman. But because I just haven't really ever seen a film of his that I thought was all that great. However, I will have to say that his "Phantom of the Opera" was outstanding...probually one of the best I've seen...though I haven't seen the original in quite some years. I was always spoonfed the Phantom of the Opera songs as a kid because my grandmother loved it, so after years of listening to it you sort grow an afinity for it, and I actually thought it was quite moving.

The batman series suffered from change in the hands of a guy who was the wb's lapdog. It went from burtons influence(ala forever) to none(batman and robin). Raimi is directed all through out and is able to keep his momentum for his films.

While i think Spidey 3 will in no way will be as bad as b&r i dont think it will top number 2, but i do think it will be better than 1.

I think that right from the starting gate, the first two Spiderman films had superior scripts and actors. Seeing as how the same people are staying on, I doubt very much that this third film wil bomb. I have high hopes and I think that the studios have learned that it is possible to sustain a series of movies if you plan well and keep the good scripts coming. I am not worried. :)

How can you say that? the first Spiderman movie was the best in my opinion. It was that movie that grasped my attention to comics and making Spiderman my favorite superhero. Mind you that I'm only 14 years old and saw this movie when I was 10. Although I look at it now with the knowledge of the source material I still find it to be a great adaptation despite some of the things that strayed away.

I don't understnad what was wrong. the acting, pacing, the plot, character development? It was all done respectively. Besides, it was an origin film. Some factors wouldn't come inot play until the sequel. The Green Goblin became Marvel's "Joker" for me and it blew me away. Especially at the climax and all the way to Peter's "I'm Spiderman..."

It was epic and a milestone. I loved it more than SM2, although SM2 was superior with SFX.

I agree...

asking if spiderman 3 will be like batman and robin is like saying will this shiny suculent sweet loly pop taste like utter garbage. first off he directed the first 2. hes not about to drive this film into the ground.

Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder will be the next Batman and Robin.
Good God what has Miller done?
"I'm the goddamned BATMAN" is right up there with that awful Juggernaut quote.

have u guys seen batman

yah hes in the dressing room with boy wonder.

i was surprised wen batman and robin didnt go that low:)

haha "low" double entendre, heehee.
Nice one.
"What do you call this thing?"
"The batmobile."
"That is so queer--"
"SHUT. UP."

....Am I the only one to read that garbage?

I hope its not a Batman&Robin thing.

Spidey 3 will kick a** regardless. We need to give Raimi a break, he knows what hes doing.

There are some slight story parallels if you believe the Q and A plot . And it will come out just before 10th anniversary of Batman and Robin

I don't think s-m3 will be anything like batman and robin, the class of the spiderman franchise has been far superior so far and I'm not even worried about there being four bad guys (one of which i am sure they are classing as symbiot spiderman). the films have been brilliant so far, and i have few complaints about them - if anything, more bad guys will translate into more action, something that has been needed since spidey 2 when he lost his powers. the hard times for peter outweighed the hard times for spidey in that film so hopefully spidey will get more screentime if he has more fights to fight.

he'll figger it owt, trust im.

I think Spidey will have a great trilogy, and if there are more nothing to worry... they can be a success like all Back to The Future movies were...
