The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will the amazing spiderman 3 fail?

Critically we have no idea. Financially it will likely fail. The box office has been declining for four straight films now, the last three of which weren't very highly regarded in terms of quality either. Even if ASM3 is great, it will be difficult to maintain the ASM2 audience let alone improve on it. The audience has simply been burned too many times. Sony will likely need to make a couple of well-received Spider-Man films before the audience returns. Franchises are like ocean liners, it takes time to turn the ship around and reverse course.

Too early to say if it'll fail.

If casting news comes out in the coming months announcing 4 new villians to round up the Sinister six for the next film, then yeah, the film is going to sink.

If the casting announcement reveals just one villian, they haven't stuffed up just yet.

Then as we get story details, as long as it isn't a sinister six film, and as long as they don't try to pack too much in, they're ok.

If an announcement came in announcing some new faces in the franchise, then I'd say that yes, the film will not fail.

But if Sony decides the best way to go is throw as many villians into a film as possible, then we could see some pretty catastrophic losses

^ I agree with this.

After seeing this movie end up in the rotten category with ratings, something I never really expected to see from a Spider-Man movie, I have no idea where the next one may end up critically. But yeah, money-wise, the trend has showed the films going down and I don't see that reversing.

they created doc ock's tentacles and vulture's wings which takes away the essence of the characters then they announced kraven and mysterio in their roster. the problem is is that this is suppose to be a redemption story when they clearly have no redemption over spiderman. what were mysterio, ock, and vulture's purposes in the film? i get that in the novel the gentleman created his version of the sinister six but they need to be introduced first before we can have a spinoff. this is just an obvious cash grab because of the avengers. i also don't believe it'll ever get made due to studio interference. seriously they're ruining themselves. i just hope they haven't done well in the box office so they can give us a proper spiderman movie and give creators freedom for once.

Even I as a die hard Spider-Man fan consider not watching TASM3 on cinema in 2016. Sure, it's early to tell now and my mind might change whenever the production starts and we get some news, but I've never felt this way about movie Spider-Man before. He's my absolute favourite fictional character, yet I have almost no interest at all in the rest of this series unless they make some drastic changes (again). I'll probably buy the Blu-Ray or DVD anyway however, as I'll do with TASM2.

When did they announce Mysterio and Kraven?

they announced it a while ago when they showed us leak photos of kraven's spear and mysterio's eye

You mean the credits thing? I don't recall the spear. The Eye, I assume you mean the mask. Might as well be Chameleon.

You can't honestly say if that was a spear or Mysterio's eye in credits scene lol. All we saw was Kraven's chest/jacket lion symbol and something that looks like an eye, which could be be mysterio or electro or chameleon.

So Second highest grossing Worldwide and third highest grossing domestically of the year is little?
I'd say there is a very real possibility TASM2 isn't in the top 10 domestically come year's end. It won't catch TWS or Lego, and DoFP could pass it.

Then there are these to consider,

Mockingjay Part 1
HTTYD 2
Transformers 4
Hobbit 3
Interstellar
Dawn
Into the Woods

Why does the domestic numbers seem to be more important than world wide? Am I missing something?

Some believe that studios get more of their dollar back in US returns as opposed to foreign returns. Even if this is the case most films do twice as well abroad so I would give them equal billing.

The studio makes more money off domestic gross. For domestic gross, the studios are looking at roughly 55% of the total. They make more during the opening week.

OS, it could be anywhere between 25% and 40%. In China, they have to pay a fee, and then the studio gets 30% of the box office. That is why being a big film in China is not nearly as important as being a big film in the US.

As to the OP its way too early. But if I were Sony I would get rid of Avi for starters. I think Webb has gone as far as he can with this franchise and has dealt with the Gwen arc. I would also be hiring new writer, the guy who scribed Xmen would be top of my list.

What do you mean some believe? It is known.

I have yet to read actual figures from studios . Regardless movies are making twice as much abroad so therefore I still consider box offce abroad to be equal to domestic box office.

50% of 100 domestic is 50 million
30% of 200 foreign is 60 million.

The idea that "this franchise has two strikes" is nonsense. The audience and fans like both, just not the level of TWS or TDK.

Absolutely true. Look at the hate recent Xmen movies got yet the last two have been widely praised. While the ASM movies got mixed reviews maybe ASM3 will be widely praised. Until the movie is released we won't know.

Do you not see the problem there? It takes twice as much money to make a bit more. :funny:

Then what do you call a consistently falling gross both domestically and WW?

Franchise fatigue? Domestically it's been falling since the first film. Captain America 2 is considered better than IM3 and it was also sequel to The Avengers yet it made less money.

The audience score for ASM is higher than SM2. Critically it's mixed but the fans and audience (the majority) seem to like these movies.

The Winter Soldier doubled The First Avenger.

And Franchise fatigue? Do you know when franchise fatigue sets in? When the movies aren't making the public happy. 8 Harry Potter films, 6 Tolkien films, we are about to see #10 for the MCU. The FF series is about to release #7 and they have never made more money. The Bond movies got good again, they started making great money again, even in the 20s.

Then why are they making so much less? Why are they selling so many less tickets? Magic?
