Superman Returns Will they make sequel?

I'd scrap a direct sequel to Superman Returns. Forget Lois' son, forget that Superman has returned. Just make a normal Superman film, introduce a new strong villain. Make the film fun, not too serious or meaningful.

Yup. A new origin film. Relevant to the times. Deals with issues facing the curent world. Straight faced, but gives hope and light, AND IS FUN for the audience to watch. Action packed, but plenty of story as well. Just ignor everything that came before. Let those films be those films.

If indeed Singer and his asshats are scrapped along with their "vision" then yes a complete reboot would be in order. They missed a prime oppurtunity with this movie and are paying for it. How ****in' hard can this be to get right for pete's sake. It's like WB reverted back to the batman and robin days with this movie. I'm glad it's tanking though it deserved it.

I'll co-sign that.

And by most people you of course mean 50% of the average movie goers right because thats what I hear from my non comic book friends and co-workers about half liked it and half said bring a pillow....
And the BO numbers show it.

And when they do make the sequel to SR and Singer directs with all the cast returning..all the ones on here complaining about SR will be in line to see the sequel.

Hmmm did I even mention where I talked to people???? nope sure didn't
All I stated is that about half the people I talk to about the movie like it and the other half did not.
So your most people liked it statment that I quoted was wrong its about 50/50 for like vs dislike.

The people I've talked to who saw the film really liked it . My thearter clapped at the end .

There's no way I'd pay to see a sequel to this film. There's far too much clutter that would have to be incorporated into a follow-up picture for me to even imagine it being good. So while I'm sure there are a lot of complaining fanboys out there who will see it despite their better judgement ("Worst, Cosmic Wars, Ever. I will only see it three more times... today!"), I'm not one of them.

I am up for a sequel to...the problem is, like in Superman 3 and 4, it is difficult to come up with villians that are interesting, and can actually be considered threats to Superman...I mean after all he is Super.

And this is perhaps why I think Singer and co. deserve at least one more chance...in Returns you get the Supes vs. Lex using Kryptonite model.
If they can't come up with a reasonable nemesis for the next one, then I am with all of you who say scrap it and start over.

I think someone already suggested to simply call the next one, "Superman 6." I like this idea. It is a title that speaks of continuity, and then if you want to start over you can so it makes the Routh movie(s) just seem part of the series that Reeves started.

Just some thoughts....

:o Man, sure is a lot of haterade drinkers on this board, and as always it hardly matters. SR is still solid and it is a quality mature film. If its not your cup of tea go back and watch X3 (shudder) The sequel will build on the strong characterization of SR, and take it boldly forward. Superman vs. Brainiac anyone?

There no doubt will be another Superman movie

Of course. There will be Superman movies for as long as movies are made (just like Tarzan, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes).

My guess is if you or anyone who takes the time to post on these boards..no matter how much they claim to dislike the movie/Singer and his writers...they will see the sequel..to see what happens next and to see what Singer and company have done different. You doen't spend your time on a board just to complain about something and not see if your complaining has paid off....at least I hope you wouldn't..sounds useless to me.

Imagine that you are seated and about to watch the sequel. The DC logo comes up followed by the legendary logo. Suddenly the film opens with Superman pushing NK above the earth as seen is SR. He uses his last reserves of strength and throws NK into space. Only this time, the camera follows Nk as it tumbles through space accompanied by Ottman's chilling choral themes. It comes to rest growing into a massive replica of Planet Krypton. We glide across its surface in a shot similar to the STM Krypton reveal. We see Superman's crystals of knowledge begin to fuse with surface creating a massive FOS like structure. At the center a crystaline being is being formed (resembles a crystalline Jor-El). Brainiac is born! We pull back across the surface as the familar Williams theme begins to vibrate through the house speakers. The credits begin to fly at the screen. Welcome to the sequel, Ladies and Gentlemen! (What can I say. I was bored in Chemistry lab!) :)

I don't know much of Superman outside the movies, but IMO Superman would benefit with more futuristic technology on display and an alien threat. This would create a larger setting for the story to play out. It looks like that's what's being done anyway- I guess Singer wanted Lex to start all the trouble and Martha and Clark did have that discussion about other Kryptonians possibly being out there.

Care to wager on that?

I'll be willing to wager

Just like Im willing to wager that we will never see a DS9 movie featuring Cap. Benjamin Sisko, which is a damn shame.

Yup... a new origin film for me, please.

Treat Singer's film as a standalone send-off to the old, outmoded Donner-era Man of Steel and start again with a fresh, reinvigorated approach for a true 21st century Superman.
