I was actually looking forward to this movie as Apocalypse is my favorite Marvel villain but after see the trailer and pictures of Apocalypse I don't really care.

Could some one please explain why Apocalypse looks like he stepped out of The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Sorry but he doesn't look like Apocalypse to me. He more of a weak limp version of the character.

2016 Summer Movie Itinerary

Civil War (at least twice)
Neighbors 2 (really enjoyed the first one so I'll be listening for reviews)
Conjuring 2 (Skeptical with this one as well)
ID2 (is a matinee maybe w/o Will Smith I'm not all that excited)
Star Trek Beyond (is a must see for me)
Suicide Squad (may see at least 2x)

There are a few others I'm on the fence about but as far as XM: Apoc's box office, I'm still confident about $680M WW

I think he looks fine.

That's just one of many issues I have with Singer's vision....

IMO Apocalypse would Tower over his tallest Horseman by at least 2 feet while at his regular size. His cables wouldn't wrap around his arms like an afterthought, his overall look would be comic accurate and his voice and demeanor would be closer to the Animated Series version.

Sorath, while some (including myself) may agree to an extent, this ain't the place
this is the box office thread, go to the Oscar Isaac thread with costume complaints

So Star Wars will have taken more in it's first week worldwide (minus China / Japan) than Apocalypse will take in its entire run?

Quite a few movies fall into that category, though.

You are comparing a movie franchise that's almost 40 years old and is mostly universally loved to one that has only been around for 15 years. XD I think it's expected.

How nervous do you think Fox is, releasing this the same day as Alice 2? They're likely to cannibalize each other. I think it's safe to say that Disney could handle an underwhelming box office return for Alice 2 better than Fox could handle an underwhelming box office return for Apocalypse.

Since he doesn't no explanation is required.

One is bright people with tendrils for hair and beard and wears a flowing robe. The other is blue/grey with no hair or beard, with blue lips and lines up his cheek wearing silvery blue armour

Well you've said in the Star Wars thread that you would do it with Poe Dameron, so I think it's safe to say you would settle for the blue and purple guy as well. I happen to agree with the previous poster. Apocalypse seems like an obvious Mo Cap character. Singer usually doesn't like to break the bank on aesthetics from what I've seen in his X-films however. No big deal either way. Just needs to be the best villain yet.

That's what I'm saying. I picked $800M WW but I totally forgot it's coming out the same day as AIW2. I can see this thing getting as low as $500M WW because they will eat other's box office take. And with Alice in Wonderland reaching that $1B club, something no Xmen film has come close to doing, I think it's pretty safe to say who may come out on top.

I think Fox should have waited till late 2017. Not sure if the next Planet of the Apes in also scheduled next year, but this summer looks risky. Although you do have Episode 8 and GotG coming out in 2017 as well, plus Thor 3. It's risky anyway you slice it. X-Men films need a bit of time to breath, especially with all the time lapses they keep doing. After this, they need to slow down and focus on more upcoming spinoffs in addition to Deadpool/Wolverine 3. I would like to see them go back to a 3 year gap minimum between movies. Not that we will be getting more X-films if this thing does 500 million WW. If reviews are decent, I'd expect 800, but not much more than that.

I wouldn't mind moving to the fall tbh. Which specific release date I have no idea.

Do people actually want to see Alice2?

I feel like it's like Ted2. Everyone expected it to dominste but No one really wanted to see any further stories. It said all it needed to with the first.

Movie made $1B+ so it clearly has an audience. I don't know man............I just think Fox is playing a dangerous game here. Xmen's highest grossing film is $740M WW. Putting it up against a Billion dollar movie is not wise, especially a Disney movie. Not to mention there are like 7 superhero movies coming out this year and Xmen seems to be the "oldest" one that seems limited. I'm just not sold on the BO of this movie at all like I was originally.

Apocalypse should passing DOFP's teaser hits soon. I really wouldn't worry. DOFP helped the X-Men movie fan base grow. Audiences are looking forward to this.

If Alice actually stole X-Men's audience then there wasn't one there to begin with. It'll do fine.

Alice 2's prospects are hard to predict. The first one made a ton of money, more than half a decade ago, but a lot of that was its being the first major post-Avatar 3D release. And it was released back toward the end of Johnny Depp's peak period at the box office. I had no interest in seeing it then, so I'm not the best person to judge it's continued appeal; maybe there are tons of people eager for Alice 2.

Regardless, Apocalypse is coming off an extremely well-received movie; if it doesn't perform well, it ultimately won't be because of Alice 2.

Apocalypse should do well, but it is facing a number of challenges not faced by its predecessor. No (or limited) Hugh Jackman, no other OT actors, a significant number of recast characters, Alice and a Turtles sequel the following week, and two superhero mega team-ups dominating attention during the first half of the year.

Despite the accolades for DOFP the film didn't increase the domestic BO from TLS. Apocalypse is going to have to really clean up overseas in order to prevent a large BO drop off.

Er, no, but it did markedly increase the box office from the actual previous X-Men film, which would be the more relevant comparison.

Er (Er?) it depends on what you are comparing. The domestic audience for the X-Men series hit its peak in 2006, and given the challenges facing the film it is unlikely Apocalypse goes over that high water mark. I would suggest Jackman and the crossover with the OT cast caused much of the DOFP increase from XMFC, and Apocalypse won't have that.

My point was that that the success of the film will likely be determined outside of North America and the large scale action scenes appear to be in place to attract that audience.

Exactly how much credit was due to each of the various elements for the increase from FC to DOFP is probably fruitless. Regardless, the actual movie was very well-received by those who saw it, and it was primarily focused on the new characters, so you would have reason to think that McAvoy, Fassbender, etc. would have greater audience investment now. And there's Lawrence, of course.

I still think it'll depend on the marketing. They have to go big with those (remaining) trailers... or go home.

I'm still not convinced that Turtles is going to be a significant threat. Personally, I see a strong parallel between Transformers. It is either going to improve in the box office like Transformers 2 did, or it could easily go the way of the later sequels, with declining returns. I think there is enough goodwill to have an increase in box office for Apocalypse. Either way, if Fox is happy with the returns, I will be happy.

Guardians Of The Galaxy opened a week before TMNT. Both did great and were not hurt by each other.
