I'm not sure what to think. Personally, the trailer made this movie look boring to me. Been there done that with cities being destroyed, ominous villain, and overall dark tone. I want an X-men movie with full on powers on display and I still don't think we've gotten that 100%.

I agree with others who think domestic may tapped out. Only growth may be in international market.

Despite the end of the world thing, it somehow still feels cautious, like it's tip-toeing around with its material...

What people want to see is the properly-costumed X-Men teaming up to stop a villain, with Xavier psychically guiding them from afar (as in the comics).

These films just feel like they are taking ages to get to the point. At least we have Xavier going bald. But the costumes should have been like Negasonic's, not black (AGAIN)...

Agreed X-Maniac. I like the Xmen movies but them not respecting the comics(to a degree they do but they really don't)is what bothers me. Xmen also seems to have this aura of been there, done that. I really felt they should have built Apocalypse up. But that's just me. I think it will be a good movie but I don't think it matches XM: DOFP box office.

Deadpool has the potential of doing better and it should. I'm really not all that excited about another X-Film done by Singer especially after what Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller just did with a budget I believe was lower than the first X-men film.

$650Mill - $680Mill

Think we are looking at a cool 300/800 WW split at this point if the reviews are there. This has to be a 300 million dollar domestic film by every measure. I think Deadpool combined with DoFP gives this momentum. Still stunned that DoFP performed so poorly domestic, but I attribute that moreso to TLS and Origins damaging both FC and DoFP. Hopefully X-Men is finally back this summer. Warcraft looks like a bomb so I'm not seeing major competition in June that will seriously threaten this.

Just took a gander at the June slate and I gotta disagree on not seeing any major competition. Even Fox's IDR is being released a week before one might expect.

I think somewhere between 700-800 million is a safe bet. If it's really good the sky is the limit like with all movies.

The performance of FC and DoFP had me wondering if the X-Men franchise under Singer has reached it ceiling. I'm not sure Apocalypse will win many converts that don't already like the X-Men franchise and if they want a bigger box office they will need new audiences to see this film.

I'm not sure if Deadpool will have any major effect on Apocalypse box office as they are different kinds of movies despite being in the same universe. The irreverent tone, violent action set pieces and raunchy jokes of Deadpool will not be in X-Men Apocalypse. Apocalypse is a bigger scale X-Men film.

At the moment I don't feel see much buzz for Apocalypse. Things may change when the marketing kicks up a gear but right now I don't see too much of the anticipation for the film as I have the previous outing or other comic book movies coming out this year.

Wolverine 3 will get a bump because of it being Hugh Jackman's last outing as the character.

It's actually getting far more social media buzz than DOFP was at the same point.

That said, I don't know quite what I think about its overall performance. DOFP was well-received, and generally that pays dividends for the next film; at the same time, Jackman's not being present is a variable (much as a lot of hardcore fans dislike Wolverine's dominance of the first trilogy, there's a lot of casual viewers who think he's essential).

After my screening of Deadpool there was a couple discussing the absence of Wolverine whilst seeing that standee and one of them knowing he's going to be in his final spinoff movie.

Apocalypse should do fine. We went over this on previous pages.

The issue domestically, is that the X films have been in a rebuilding phase since X3 and Origins. I think the franchise does have goodwill back. Now, that doesn't guarantee the numbers that some want (a $100 million three day I will call a massive success).

And it does have some solid competition after its release, though I would hardly call it insurmountable. I'm not convinced that TMNT is going to have domestic growth. It will eat screens, though. Warcraft needs to really step up the marketing.

As for the trailers being boring, meh. I see it following the path of DOFP's trailers, where Singer focuses a bit more on the personal for the early trailers, when the CG is less ready, then go for the spectacle closer to release and he has more CG stuff ready to show.

We have never seen anything like this for an X-Men movie. So it's not been there done that with Apocalypse and this franchise.

This film looks like it has that.

If quality keeps where it's at or elevates even higher then nothing can get truly tapped out.

Maybe not a whole city being destroyed, but just destruction porn in general. Plus we had Golden Gate Bridge being destroyed in X3 and Magneto lifting a whole stadium in DoFP, so it's similar.

The only similarity is that people will be in peril. Otherwise, Apocalypse will be on an entirely different level than what we saw Magneto do in any of the movies. Anything else would be a disappointment in the highest sense.

People are so ridiculous. Almost ALL comic fare ends and deals with the destruction and the end of the world.

Encouraging, certainly. But it is still going to have to fight for every dollar.

Considering the competition, yes. A 100+ 3-day opening isn't exactly a certainty at this time. I am confident that it will beat Alice, but how many screens will that take?

Alice in Wonderland will attract a much younger audience than what the X-Men movie franchise is used to. Of course, those who are going watch Alice don't know what they're missing.

That's no defense for X-Men. A lot younger audience means kids with parents; this means those parents aren't going to a different movie, like X-Men.

X-Men is for mature adults. Only silly children would miss it. :whatever:

Alice is potentially a huge flop (though you never quite know, the first was supposed to be a flop & it's in the billion dollar club). Silly to hand wave competition, though. Maleficent is part of the reason DoFP underperformed domestically (yep, it underperformed a little, it should have outgrossed The Last Stand).

I'd be more concerned about it's legs than the opening, though. This franchise has sometimes had poor legs, and Turtles might draw the kids and 80's/90's nostalgia crowd.
