they said they were handed a list of who they were allowed to use and probably shouldnt expect a proper cross over anytime soon.
Given the success of the movie, I'd question whether those restrictions will remain. Particularly if they're introducing Cable.

I wish Deadpool had more budget so there would be more X-Men in that film, at least a cameo when Deadpool went to the mansion to pick up Colossus/Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
The budget could well go up for the sequel after these crazy returns.

^^Needless to say, they would be too limited by budget to make it work.

It seems so and i certainly hope so. To me Fox giving up FF makes more sense than Sony giving up Spidey.

A movie franchise about an oddball family of superheros set on earth and in space. Featuring some of Marvel's best and most iconic villains? There is enough there to appeal to a wider demographic than X-Men, Deadpool, Wolverine etc.

Past efforts IMO disqualify FOX from retaining creative control over FF. But if they aren't willing to play ball with Marvel then i could see them making yet another attempt in a couple years time.Their record recently with other scifi movies prove they could get it right one day.:woot:

My guess is that the FF rights have already reverted or are in process. I doubt Marvel gave up their exclusive rights to produce Marvel branded television program for nothing.

In any case, Deadpool's crazy success made it much more unlikely that a FOX FF re-reboot would ever come to pass. After making a gajillion dollars or so on a $60M Wade Wilson film, what are the chances that FOX would approve anywhere from 2.5 to 3 times that budget to resurrect a failed franchise, one that hasn't earned the studio a dime in over a decade? I expect Disney to green light "Tomorrowland Two" before we see another FOX FF film.

I assume cable was ok to use though since they said they thought about including him in the first movie.

i think the restrictions are more so the plans for deadpool or X-force wont conflict with plans for more x-men team movies.

They probably wont just be like ok deadpool made us alot of money so let them do what they want with whoever they want

To assume they are not gonna open that list more is crazy though. These guys are gonna have close to carte blanche as long as it doesn't conflict with the main X film in production. It's too big of a property to tell them no now. Last thing they want is Reynolds walking away. Deadpool 2 and X-Force are now looking at a possible 400m domestic run.

They did whatever they wanted with Deadpool 1 on a restricted budget for the most part already.

If ryan wants to keep makin them then fox will give him more freedom to do what they want with the character but in terms playin around with the universe there is likely to be limitations.

There are a couple of quotes from the writers il try and fish out about how they fox are happy to keep x-men series and X-force somewhat seperate and how using certain characters opens timeline issues

They didn't even mention 'Weapon X' in Deadpool.
Unknown serum...

The quotes and interviews are before Deadpool smashed records though. That clearly changes things, and the studios motivation.

Regardless, I don't think bad decision making is in the interest of either Fox or Reynolds with Deadpool. Any character showing up there will get an extreme awareness boost no matter how small (NTW) and they have plenty to work with regarding X-Force characters like Cable, Laura, Domino, Fantomex, Wolfsbane, Boom Boom etc. Cable and Domino are pretty much confirmed so things are already being put in place.

But there will continue to be a push to see characters like Psylocke and Wolverine with Deadpool or X-Force. Can't see why they would tell them no if they wanted them.

If they have plans for more x-men team movies they wont just strip them of valuable assetts, i dunno why you think deadpools success will give them freedom to take over anything x-men has regardless

Stip of valuable assets:huh: They have been wasting characters for years without much thought. X-Men already went through their entire fan favorite line up except for Polaris. And along the way they threw Banshee, Emma(twice), Nightcrawler, Bishop, Gambit, Blink, Warpath, Sunspot, Deadpool etc under the bus. They have plenty.

If Deadpool or X-Force wanted to use an X-Men character like say Colossus or Wolverine significantly...you don't think they would let them now? I'm not following what you are arguing. They already were using characters even when Deadpool wasn't a hit. Now all it does is make said X-Men character more valuable. It's already a connected world. If it conflicts don't use them.

Now that Deadpool makes them a ****load of money adding characters who are heavily connected to Deadpool's comic history (Juggernaut, Black Tom, Siryn, Cable, Domino) or adding characters the X-Men series might not be using to their potential like Colossus seems like a no brainer. Telling them no after all this nonsense for the past 6 years, would be beyond stupid and essentially just turning them down for the heck of it. They won't be making that character list smaller after they scored over 700m at the box office. How does that make any sense? They will be making it larger.

I doudt they will sacriface x-men films for x-force.which so far remains just talk.

you also realize to put wolverine in deadpool sequels or x-force requires a recast since
jackman is only doing old man logan.he may not even cameo in apocalypse.

Even an underused assett is still a valuable assett to marketing, you think fox read the script for apocalypse and said hey psylocke isn't in this enough... no they said hey everyone psylocke is in this movie!

If X-Men has no plans or wants to waste them like Colosuss then throw then who cares?

Here is a quote from the writers about the sequel and using other x-men characters

its a legal list but it'ts also a creative list, because x-men: apocalypse has plans, they have plans for future x-men movies, and we also have timeline issues

we have actors who are now playing the parts who are the younger generation, we have the older actors - where does deadpool's timeline fit in with the others? these are all things simon kinberg worries about for the moment instead of us

colossus was easy to do he's chrome and there was no live-action actor playing him, negasonic was easy to do because she's a very minor character, but if you start talking about professor X or beast you do start to running into timeline issues and we're gonna need guidelines for that

This quote is from http://collider.com/deadpool-2-cable-budget-x-men-characters/

another interview they said

“Deadpool’s now become a brand and franchise unto himself, independent of the ‘X-Men’ and that’s great. And that gives the studio two franchises in one, but I think it is its own franchise, and you’ll see synergy between those two properties, but they’re two very distinct brands.”

So yeah there will always be limitation. deadpool made them alot of money but that doesn't mean if say ryan wanted to use mr sinister then fox would just be like well we wanted to use him for X-Men but yeah sure make us money ryan!

Gueststar, when were those interviews conducted.

So what? You are easily bypassing the fact that there is another property that is making more money then the X-Men films that takes place in the same universe. If a character doesn't conflict with a film being in production they are gonna use them if they want to. Because there's nothing to lose there now that this a proven hit.

Last I checked studios like money first and foremost.

Of course they will recast Wolverine.

Who's talking about sacrificing  I said if it doesn't conflict with films in production like twice.

Actually that interview was before the film was released.

While Fox will likely officially set things in motion for the Deadpool sequel soon, when Steve spoke with Reese and Wernick a couple of days before Deadpool hit theaters for an extended conversation, he took some time to talk about where the story might go in the follow-up.

There has been barely any talk regarding the future after the money Deadpool has banked, cause it changes things significantly. Nobody expected it to break records like that prior to the film opening.

Most comic book franchise movies have limitations, after the avengers broke bank even josh whedon couldn't do what he wanted for the 2nd movie

I'm still not sure on what you are trying to say they will be limited on.

Now that they have Cable that opens up quite a bit given his family and his ability to time travel. Are you really gonna be shocked if he travels to the past and interacts with the young X-Men?

I'm still not sure on what you are trying to say they will be limited on.

Obvious i am assuming the limitations are not being able to use certain X-Men characters without permission beyond the list they get given or for example if they want to use psylocke then they will have to talk to fox and kinberg who will either say they can or can't judging by whether they don't actually have any plans to use psylocke anymore or whether they still want her to be a marketable assett in the X-Men team movies to some degree whether x-man, brotherhood or something else

or another example is them wanting to use older Cyclops, jean or storm, well the x-men films ain't finished with them so they may say no you can't use these characters as we are still developing them, they won't just say yeah course you guys come first and we will work around you

Now that they have Cable that opens up quite a bit given his family and his ability to time travel.

Personally thats the only way i can see a proper cross over happening

I don't see why it would matter if the X-Men films are finished or not. Kind of defeats the purpose of having connected films. Storm, Cyc and Jean could appear in Gambit, New Mutants, Wolverine, Deadpool or X-Force in small or supporting roles in either timeline. It's not like they can't reappear in a later X-Men film or anything.

We are gonna get crossing over one way or the other. It's almost impossible to ignore. They have over 5 IP's now.

I expect some crossover element in most films released from now on. No need to overdo it but as said above they gave Colosuss a decent role even before they knew Deadpool was going to be a success, so that willingness to build the universe across films should at worst remain the same and otherwise increase with this kind of success.

if they tease phoenix in apocalypse for the next movie and then suddenly she appears in gambit all fine having got over whatever events happened in the past and then you jump back to the past for the next part of phoenix story... thats not really a way to keep audiences invested in that story, thats just oh yeah i forgot it works out fine, cool!

and yes even if DOFP did show it you don't wanna keep reminding people of that fact since they will have to tread very carefully to not make the past films feel pointless.

it works the same with cyclops and storm because if they want to develop them in different direction like they are doing with xavier in apocalypse then they would not have that freedom because you keep teasing bits of their future personality so they are restricting themselves.

Agree to disagree. I don't see a realistic scenario where all these X-films are gonna be completely separate from each other without characters interacting.
