Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I think the assumption when people mention Chris Claremont if he is impressed with what he is hearing then it must be exactly like the comic... but really it could be as simple as Chris Claremont likes what he heard, even if its a fairly different take on the idea.

I think people tend to assume that creators will hate something if it strays too much from their own previous vision when often the creators are the ones that are willing to stray away the most.

Don't know how credible this is, but since its some new info:

nikoniko9: So a buddy of mine who works at Trailer Park gave me a little peak of the rough edit for the #XMenDarkPhoenix trailer. Space, a pale Jessica Chastain, and an awesome firebird scene ripped straight out the comics! Didn’t look bad!

There’s an action figure of a certain mutant in #DarkPhoenix. At least in the early cut.

It’s in the film itself.

Gladiator?

If true, cool. But the "pale Jessica Chastain" part made me chuckle.

Gladiator?

Gladiator is not a mutant.

Or X-23 (Kinberg is a big fan of Dafne Keen).

What?

Then Kinberg is once again ignoring continuity. To paraphrase Kinberg: "She would be minus" 39 years old in Dark Phoenix.

or that really popular shapeshifter from the news. the one storm was in love with.

My first thought too. It's probably Dazzler.

A reminder for everyone.

This thread is for discussing the movie DARK PHOENIX.

If you want to discuss all the possibilities for XMen films once they come under control of the MCU....go to a thread designated for that.

My bad. Got carried away. lol

Well it seems the trailer is possibly currently being worked on based on that tweet, so we might be seeing something (along with kick starting the marketing campaign) at least some time next month if not sooner. As the tweet suggest, we'll likely get some space shots (probably from the space shuttle sequence), shots of Jessica Chastain, and a cool looking fire bird scene among others....although they might tweak or change up shots for the final trailer version. I wonder if they include any shots of floating Genosha (if that's still in the movie). I'm so intrigued to see how the visual effects will look given the amount of time devoted to it and also how they'll depict the Dark Phoenix after what we saw from the First Look concept photos. Hopefully the first trailer will look way better than that other one......Apocalypse. We'll at least get a sense of Kinberg's visual creative vision and how he employ the use of VFX. Good luck!

There's no excuses for it to not look better than Apocalypse considering principal photography wrapped back in October. That's 10 months ago.

I'm not talking only VFX, but also how the trailer is cut together. Apocaypse trailer was just sloppily made (basically almost exactly what was shown at comic con previously). It also depend on how much VFX shots they choose to show. Some people were saying Aquaman's trailer VFX were a little overkill. I wonder if the official trailer will give the same tone of sci-fi action thriller as was described at CineEurope.

So nervous, but so far what I've heard about what people have seen in the trailers (from the tweet and trailer shown at CineEurope) is positive. That would be good news for the first reveal of the movie, considering all negativity people have been talking about thus far regarding the film. The first trailer will be the test. At least we'll get a peak and sense of Kinberg's directing style in the way shots are set up, how he utilizes VFX, how well he worked with the team he put together.

Honestly I didn't dislike the first trailer for Apocalypse. Maybe it was because it had the best shot of Apocalypse in the movie, and they withheld the purple lighting scene. I liked the monologue they gave him.

The subsequent trailers had pretty dire VFX though, and the movie never recovered from that. That shot of Psylocke cutting the car with the green screen background... yikes.

Oscar Isaac's talent was wasted under all that crap make up. They could have had Apocalypse shape shift into a human persona to let him act his ass off for a bit.

We badly need a trailer. We'll finally have something tangable to argue about.

I know it's a minority opinion but I liked Singer's toned down approach for the series and would have much preferred Apocalypse to appear more human for non-action scenes. Just paint Oscar up a little and as you said, let him act his ass off for a bit. Then have him amour up, grow in size etc for the action. Best of both worlds.

It'll be interesting to see how Chastain measures up against the franchise villains. Another good performer for sure.

We need some marketing ASAP. Some more covers, a teaser poster just something.

Not sure how his performance would have been much different.
