Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

The acting/dialogue aren't very good.
eh. I still prefer this over other x-men action shots in this franchise:

Much more dynamic and intense above compared to......this below. Ugh:

I think they’re comparing the shot from a Dark Phoenix to both of the shots of magneto below from Apocalypse.

I mean why are you even comparing a shot of Magneto at his full force with a shot of him floating down? LMAO
Isn't the shot of Magneto in the first Apocalypse GIF suppose to be above his full force since he's boosted by Apocalypse? He's not floating down in that shot.....and yet it's still shot so dull. "LMAO" The point is both Apocalypse shots are dull and uninteresting.

Yea I think everyone got that...

Well based on that your own verbiage, you said he was comparing one shot of magneto in Apocalypse with another shot of magneto in Apocalypse.

Right there. So, sorry I guess

There's nothing dynamic about that shot. Just because it's better compared to the blue screen horror that is Apocalypse doesn't mean it's good.
That Dark Phoenix snippet looks like a fan film. The unsteady camera, the non descript green field, the drab civilian clothes.

The indoor shots seem to fare far better, to me. But still Singer-lite.

I still prefer the way that's shot. It's just more believable & still manages to create tension and intensity as oppose to this:

That shot btw was cut from a bigger sequence altogether and looked a little weird since it was a snippet. Think of it like the ‘Extended Phoenix Destroys Alcatraz’ scene from TLS

Unsteady camera reminds me a lot of Civil War and Winter Soldier, which I liked a lot. Those films also had action scenes in civilian clothes....where some of the action took place in regular streets. I don't see the problem. This still look better to me than all the blue screen nonsense in Apocalypse, which I utterly could not stand.

So you expect Fassy to overact as Apocalypse's Horseman to show his full force? That makes sense to you?

You two very well know there's a more (to paraphrase carpenter's reply) "apples to apples"-comparable shot of Magneto exerting more effort using his powers earlier in that movie in Auschwitz right? Fassbender is doing the same over-acting thing there as he is in this Genosha shot that you apparently love so much. But it probably doesn't fit with your narrative.

At least be intellectually honest.
At least the overact is interesting. I was utterly bored with his scenes in Egypt. And he looked bored. The camera usage was boring and lazy. Even the Auschwitz shot was better than his shots in Egypt.

You use the words “full force” when we’re discussing comic book characters and there’s a shot of the character in question literally at their full force literally ripping a planet apart.

I don’t understand how you can’t just say okay let’s revise what I said and be at that. I can acknowledge if I’m wrong or may be wrong and have done so at every turn, but why argue purely for the sake of it. No need to insult anyone’s intellect. Let’s be ‘intellectually honest’.

Now that I know what you meant because you clarified it, whereas it was not black and white where you originally stated, sure. Understood loud and clear.

If you want me to say this looks on the same level as those, I won't because I don't see it. And I also believe there are Youtube videos complaining about the drab, concrete look of those movies. They did have the excuse of making it like a spy thriller, especially with Civil War being a Manchurian Candidate riff.

If anything it seems they are more attempting to emulate Logan rather than those, but again it felt like Logan's cinematography and action looked better based on the footage of Dark Phoenix so far.

Anyone know why my local theater would only have 2 screenings for Dark Phoenix on the 6th? Would they just not have updated yet? Really don't want to go to a 6:15pm screening.

Really those shots are very different to even compare them, one I assume is more practical with CGI used when he throws the copter. And the apocalypse one is just fassbender on a green screen while everyone is CGIed behind him.

Practical directing and directing a scene manipulated on a computer are very different.

They probably think it’s going to fail , so more viewings for other movies to make more money.

No clue, would need more details about your local theater, size, screen count and other theaters in the area to provide an answer. Look into Secret Life if Pets as well? That’s tracking better than Dark Phoenix. If there’s only one large format screen and the local demographic has more families with small children (theaters take this heavily into account when allocating screens), then they could be putting that for more of their 7pm/8pm timeslots.

The look of those movies never bother me. I preferred the change in look. That's part of the reason why there among some of my top MCU films.

Dark Phoenix still look better to me than Apocalypse. I like the shift in the look which is what I hoped for.

Ehhhhh....I don't agree. You can still shoot a much more dynamic scene utilizing lots of CGI much better than what Apocalypse did.
