Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I'll be amazed if Dark Phoenix doesn't get a theatrical release. New Mutants, fine, it's a much smaller affair and could be viewed as alternative (perfect for streaming), but Dark Phoenix is a huge blockbuster film with a big name cast. You don't just blow money on something like this.

Plus, I'm sure J-Law has some kind of back-end/percentage of profits worked into her contract. A streaming deal complicates that sort of stuff.

Mowgli doesn't count as it's big stars are voice and motion-capture.

I think Mowgli will be released in a limited capacity in some theaters, same day it will be released on Netflix. Mowgli's limited theatrical release will be in 3D, or at least this is what's been planned by WB and Netflix, we will have to wait and see if this actually happens.

I can see Fox doing something similar for DP.

Sneider and Perri of collider discussed this. Perri thinks it could be scrapped completely while Sneider says they will both be likely released on streaming. They also mentioned they have heard rumors that even the reshoots have been paused because the movie is such an utter train wreck. Like I said there is no way DP or NM get released on theaters.

This is not what they said, but to everyone his own agenda.

It was funny he said Apocalypse & DoFP we're unwatchable lol... I think he meant Apocalypse & Fan4stic

I wouldn't say Apocalypse is unwatchable, it's just a bad poorly plotted and executed X-Men movie.

James McAvoy's hair fell out at the end of the movie because of Simon Kinberg's poor writing for Apocalypse and Fant4stic. That's why he had to film that way for Split.

Imagine what will happen to Sophie Turner with Kinberg's directorial debut.

:o

Apocalypse main power was hairdesign.

do you want to dye your hair white? Boom!
purple streaks? boom!
bald head? boom!

he's so fashionist! love it :funny:
and Kinberg clearly is a fan or Ryan Murphy and his shows lol. He's probably loving the hell out of Pose right now

Apocalypse was a hairdresser. Imagine if he gave Wolverine a Professor X haircut.

The Darkest Minds officially start this week. Do you think we will see a Dark Phoenix teaser?

I truly think the X-Men belong with Marvel/Disney, but I still want to see how Fox’s likely last entry in the series turns out. I’ve invested so much time into Fox’s interpretation of the stories and characters that I look forward to another installment, even if it has the odds against it. There’s more I like about this franchise than I dislike. And, no, I’m not thrilled with the idea of Kinberg directing, but that also doesn’t automatically mean it’ll be terrible, either. I just think it deserves fans (of any prior X-Men films) to give it a chance. Worst case scenario? It’ll be awful and Disney reboots it in a few years.

I agree. There is no risk in watching any of these movies now. If both are horrible then we still have Disney taking over this franchise and making it part of MCU. If the movies are good then it will be a good little send off to the franchise. I hope with the reshoots for Dark Phoenix they at least give us a sick and awesome final battle even if the rest of the writing and story is bad. But yeah I am not expecting much from this.

I'm glad DP is turning out this way, I hope studios are not confident in Kinberg and will not hire him for any more Marvel movies. Atrocious writer.

It's on the official IMAX release scedule that was put out. And Steven Weintraub the editor of collider says both this and New Mutants will be in theaters.

wait, how did it turn out?

It's not worth it let them stay in their delusion long enough for it to come out and us enjoy the film (hopefully) then they can keep believing it came out on the streaming service even though it had a complete theatrical run.

These films are getting released, and people are always talking about how non MCU comic films are train wrecks behind the scenes :whatever:

Dark Phoenix will affect MCU's reboot of X-Men, either by confusing the two to the general audience, or by negatively influencing the reboot. Plus it will tie Marvel's hands if they ever wanted to do a DP saga in the MCU; just look at Spider-Man, for instance. The first trilogy had Mary Jane, the second trilogy featured Gwen Stacy, and the new series introduced MJ (Michelle Johnson). Just by looking at the love interest alone tells you that they had to change things up so it won't feel too repetitive. After we get two Dark Phoenix Saga, it will hurt MCU's freedom to make a movie based on this story line without looking like a rehash of the previous two DP movies. Disney bid 71 billion for Fox; I doubt they want to be put in that position.
Ok fair but how many incredible stories are there to tell?

They don’t need to do Phoenix again straight away. The audiences will have no problem with Marvel doing X-Men. All they need to do is cast well, give them cameo/post credits scenes in an Avengers movie, Storm in BP or whatever and that sets the groundwork. Have some faith in Marvels abilities here.

Also the love interest thing with Spider Man doesn’t make sense. Those two women are his main love intrests. I would say more they didn’t feel the need to include Uncle Ben’s death all over again because everyone knows Spider Mans origins. Marvel didn’t need to give another one of those after the two Spider Man series.

Again I feel there was more of a risk with Spider Man being done right in Marvel then X-Men. Yes the timeline is a little jumbled but at least it’s been one major franchise instead of a reboot.

Technically Marvel will be rebooting X-Men first. And people will be waiting in line to see what Marvel have to offer.

Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jessica Chastain.

Jessica and James are on a career high at the moment too.

Also good or not there’s a bit of over dramatics with how Apocalypse did. It’s not amazing and it’s not outlandishly horrible either money wise. To me Dark Phoenix is not going streaming. New Mutants seems more like a possibility.

Even though most Marvel films are train wrecks but they always look the other way...:whatever::whatever::whatever:

Lowest grossing super hero movie of 2016 out of what 6 CBM movies?

Yeah but what does that say about Ant-Man currently. It hasn’t even hit 400 million but it was a fantastic movie and it should be grossing more in my opinion. And let’s be honest BvS and SS might’ve made more money then Apocalypse but they were far bigger failures audience/critic wise as well as what it probably cost to make and market those movies in comparison.

Let’s see what happens with Dark Phoenix shall we.

Antman hasnt been released in some international markets yet, including Uk, Italy, and China. lets wait for the final numbers to really judge. yet it has surpassed Antman 1 in usa (unlike Apocalypse vs dofp)
