Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I still like the idea of her playing Cassandra Nova. While she has absolutely nothing to do with the Phoenix storylines, she has a lot to do with Jean in both her original debut storyline and the current storyline in the comics for X-Men Red. The pieces are all there and Cassandra did bring the Shi’Ar to Earth to target mutants, though that hinges on Caviers preexisting relationship with her as she took over his body. When that failed, she used Sentinels to destroy Genosha, also making its debut.

Imagine that the movie should it involve Nova playbout like this. Spoiler boxed for length
-Nova, without a form, piggybacks off the surge of energy during the opening space sequence which Phoenix flares up to connect to life in the universe and infect it

-having a body and an army now, she sets her sights using Jean. She is familiar with all of her strengths, life and what will ultimately drive her mad as she’s been a part of Charles up until Apocalypse, when Jean not only booted Apocalypse out of his mind, but her as well.

-one thing leads to another and she drives Jean insane which is solidified by the significant character death. Jean rushes to genosha for help but then Phoenix is pushed out and destroys it and it’s inhabitants.

-Charles VS Magneto over Jean, save her or destroy her. Cassandra reveals herself to them. Imagine if Mystique is the one that’s killed and the line reveal is something like “You tried your whole life to get the person you loved as a sister to be the right person. If only she could see now that the real sister is everything she could have wanted to be, free from you.” She wouldn’t have existed in her own form if the events of Apocalypse hadn’t happened.

-Scott is the one to bring Jean back from insanity. Nova seeing the one thing she doesn’t understand being the thing to ruin her plan, reveals her Shi’ar Army that’s been cloaked right in Earth’s skies and they start their attack. She also reveals that she has taken the body of the most powerful woman in the galaxy, their queen Lilandra.

-Jean, still battling for control of herself and her control of her own life, makes a sacrifice to end both threats, the army that has just launched a black hole (see Endsong) to handle Eath and her own darker personality. Her fate is ambiguous and her story ends similar to the final panels of Endsong.
That way we don’t have to waste Chastain as a one-off and she could have still played a role afterwards and build her relationship with Charles once Nova dealt with. It could have set the stage for further movies. It’s Kinberg enough, right?

OMG I love it!!!! Let’s hope we get something as decent and dramatic as your storyline Lol

Jessica wrapped up filming yesterday.
Kodi Smit-Mcphee is heading to Montreal rn.

I was hoping we would see the Dark Phoenix saga occur within the MCU, but... can't get everything you want.

Alexandra Shipp was on an Air Canada flight. Stunt doubles for Nightcrawler, Beast, Jean as well as Olivia Munn's stunt double now in Canada. So, they obviously haven't started shooting actual scenes yet.

They'll obviously change it up if they do. Look at how much they changed Infinity War.

And its widely received as one of their best movies and is the most successful cmb of all time so i dont see your point.

Its clearly paid off. Way more than Fox version of DP 12 years ago.

It's clearly not their best movie from a critical standpoint. That title belongs to Black Panther and then there are about 10 more Marvel films higher ranked before you get to Infinity War. IW may be one of the best spectacle-wise.

My point was fairly clear. Like most of the Marvel films, Dark Phoenix saga won't be like the comic, should they adapt it (there are so many people who think Marvel will make it like the comics). X3 wasn't a Dark Phoenix adaptation since the plot of the film revolved around the mutant cure story-line. The interesting question is what parts would Marvel change and how would they change it if they adapt it? I really don't see them doing the Dark Phoenix saga. The Phoenix saga more fits with their cosmic phase since that story is far more cosmic.

is that nightcrawler costume for apocalypse or dark phoenix?

Which nightcrawler costume?

It's from Apocalypse. We've already seen the DPh costumes...

Maybe they're reshooting third act with Jim Lee costumes

That would be awesome but unlikely.

Triggered much? I don't think they were trying to negate anything Marvel has done or say anything negative about Marvel at all. Just that they make drastic changes to the source material like any other film franchise. Why are you being so defensive?

You havent been in touch with the fan response it seems. In most rankings by fans its placed within the first 3 spots.

IGN had a user poll with over 10000 votes and IW came in first.

Its clearly considered one of their best movies.

Also your apprehension about Marvel changing the story and the way you phrase it as a negative in response to ehh's is unfounded Its narural for someone to prefer to see Marvels take on the property.

Maybe you haven't been in touch with the critical response. Fan response is predictable for obvious reason, Zemo. Even the Transformers franchise has fans. But there's a difference between fans and certified members of various writing guilds or film critic-associations because they are looking for different things as it relate to film theory.

Second, what is this apprehension you speak of? I stated a fact. If you took it as a negative, then that's your problem. Marvel has been doing that for years. It should be no surprise to anyone. Marvel's take on the property doesn't mean it will be like the comics. Like Fox, Marvel can take out characters, combine different story-lines, change up settings the story take place in, or create completely original stories using the characters. Marvel has done all this with their films. That doesn't mean it has to be a negative since film is a separate medium. The point is, don't act like Marvel doesn't do it.

no. lol.

That costume was designed by Mingenbach... she's gone and so are those costumes.

yeah, its not like Fox can be consistent for once lol.

Kinberg had to put "his stamp" on it, not giving a damm about the most iconic suits and what most fans have been wishing for decades already. He's that type of b***

Marvel is shrewd enough to make the characters recognisable, on point and, for the most part, true to source (with a few exceptions such as Mandarin)...

Once you get the characters' appearance, behaviour, personality, backstory and relationships correct, then freedom with stories or settings is rarely questioned.

Start meddling with the essence of who a character is and you'll not only fall foul of the very vocal fanboy world but create a confusing muddle where it's not really rooted in anything but the whim of a director (and studio execs). This is where Fox tends to go wrong with its adaptations.

if Domino in Deadpool2 (which tbh was not as good as the first imo) fell victim to this trope... She's just there for one reason really and there wasn't a whole lot to take away from here being there other than "showcasing her powers" that's what FOX typically does with most X-men.. it's just about there powers and that's really it outside of a select few

and on the flip side... i also felt while Brolin was amazing for the part.. Cable was kinda flat... i don't even think they showed his mutant abilities or let anyone even know he was one.

Domino was the best part of DP2 in my opinion. Differences from the comics can be great if they are smart and justified. Look at Spider-man Homecoming.

I correctly stated that both studios change things from the comics due to the differences of the medium. You comparing the two studios......still doesn't dismiss my point. This seems like irrelevant rambling.
