Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I'm confused with the issue with a split personality. Was Dark Phoenix not always a split personality? Did she not say something along the lines of "Jean no longer exists" in the comics? Sounds like a bit of a split personality to me.

Yes, and it's still top-10 trending in USA Twitter, which it has done for almost eight hours now. The franchise is far from dead.

Honestly, Marvel should do the space opera version of Dark Phoenix saga. It just doesn't feel really organic for Fox's X Men as they have been presented so far.

My opinion, of course. I would love nothing more then the full story - the cosmic force, hell fire club, mastermind, going dark, genocide, aliens and the crystal with the universe inside it, but that is just not gonna happen.

I think they are trying to do something different from what was done in apocalypse
the first trailer of apocalypse showed a lot of the movie, and the trailers that came after practically showed the same things, I think simon wants to make each trailer is unique with news.

But she wasn't mentally unstable as a part of her evolution. It was when Professor X separated that part of her mind with his mental blocks that created a rift in her personality and the imbalance.

That's not the Phoenix. That's Jean's power level you're on about. The Phoenix was her seperate personality in that movie.

Marvel didnt faithfully adapt IW or Civil War so what makes you think theyl do DPS right? And why does it matter if after all the movies end up being good

I suppose that's a way to look at it... the only difference being the Phoenix entity is it's own separate thing and invades Jean's psyche and creates the split as opposed to her having a psychological condition. I can see why they chose to give Jean a split personality in TLS (a bit easier than going into space, aliens and cosmic entities)

Yeah but the entity being it's own separate thing was a retcon which was retconned again if I'm not mistaken. So the stories in the comics gives a lot of liberties as to how this can be portrayed.

The interview stated Chastain is interested in Jeans power because Agent "Smith" wants to use it for her own agenda (i guess back on her alien world).

The leaks from the test screening that the spaceshuttle flies off and smashed into an alien world which pees them off seem inaccurate at this point.

Wait, what?

If they're holding back a lot, then it makes sense. I don't want this story to be watered down or on the cheap. It's a space epic classic from the books.

Unfortunately the trailer didnt really make me feel anything since we've barely spent anytime with these characters who arent the OG3. Storm didnt even get a line in so she will probably get the same background performance we've gotten from the beginning of the franchise.

If trending makes a franchise a hit.....then there are a lot of tv shows/movies that have trended that want their sequels.

I suspect trailer 2 will have the money shots that some people crave. But for me the character conflict that trailer 1 lays groundwork for is far more promising IMO.

Well people were concerned about marketing and so far the marketing team has done their job if it has grabbed people's attention. For me Fox has always delivered with marketing of their films. The big litmus test for the film will obviously be the final act of the film and how the reshoots changed that final act.

The cinematic versions of both Wars were superior to the comic book source material. So fans have a reason to be confident.

But I would be happy if Feige locked up the Dark Phoenix storyline and threw away the key. It's aged terribly - Extraordinarily powerful female hero can't handle her abilities! - and even if this one is an improvement over Ratner & Kinberg's TLS I don't think it needed a second adaptation. We REALLY needed a Phoenix movie before Jean went all dark, but the Disney buyout may have mushed a two-parter into one.

Visually, it looks better than any X-Men movie ever. Really beautiful work.

But I didn't see anything really new. They refuse to change their narrative. Eric and Charles will be prioritized again over the X-Men, especially Scott, who should be one of the leads here. Raven and Hank are still human. Didn't like the costumes, and I got a lot (a lot!) of TLS vibe from it. It does look like Eric will be an ally, than antagonist and all that shenanigans we're used to in every X-flick.

Also, in the official poster, is she using the red coat from X3, like that reddit leak said she would?

I do think it is an issue that we keep bypassing Jean Grey Phoenix and going straight to Dark Phoenix. I'd like her to show Phoenix abilities and have them for a movie or 2 as the good Phoenix and not just for a last minute she beat the bad guy once with her new found power and it was the only time she used the power before becoming evil type thing. Build up to the Dark Phoenix and show it slowly start to become evil. Don't have her showcase the power once and then suddenly be evil. It doesn't land as much.

haha, do you cater to the theory that the Phoenix was one big metaphor for PMS?

Which Xplains why Apocalypse, Golden Circle, War of Apes, Covenant , Fant4stic, Predator, Assassin 's Creed, Victor Frankenstein, Red Sparrow and the Darkest Minds were such big boX office success.

"FoX marketing"

Yeah so they changed it so that the Phoenix took on Jean's form whilst Jean was safely cocooned under the Hudson until the Fantastic Four fished her out. Kinda absolved her from any punishment for the Phoenix's actions when it went all dark and crazy. I think ever since though, the Phoenix has been a "force" that inhabits other beings. I agree that the various tweaks do give a lot of room for interpretation. For me, the issue with the split personality is that it doesn't give the same sense of danger as a body snatching cosmic entity who can destroy entire galaxies. I liked that Jean was (seemingly) a prisoner in her body whilst this separate being overpowered and took control.

I wonder if they'll retcon it so that no one actually sees the Phoenix entity enter Jean and so Xavier misdiagnoses the split personality disorder and puts the blocks in place. In TLS Xavier said the other personality called itself "Phoenix"... maybe in TLS it was always the entity, but no one knew.

While Im usually excited to see a trailer for a new X-film, I was feeling blah after this one.
Whether it was intentional or not, it seems to give off a X3 vibe.
I'm ambivalent about the costumes.
While most first trailers for xfilms don't have much wondrous money shots, this one had been delayed 3 months and they had a lot of post production time, so the lack of any powers or full Phoenix shot is disappointing.
I have a feeling Mystique or Quicksilver may die.If it's JLAW, YAY!
lol at Magnus "There's always a speech and youre always sorry line.
The only definiitvely good thing is Fassbender and McAvoy. Also, it seems Cyclops isn't going to be fully pushed out of the way this time.
To be fair, the Captain Marvel was just ok for me, but it was better than this.
Funny how the Bumblebee trailer was better than both.

Yunno, this story surely lacks Wolverine. It feels very subdued because of it. But--eh, for what it's worth, I'm guessing it'll be a bit better than the Last Stand.

I bet the only lines ‘Storm’ will have is “Oh no Jean!” and “Professor, I will find Scott!”

And it looks like when Jean uses her Dark Phoenix powers she’s gonna morph into a crackhead like she did in X3. I hated that visual.

Just throw the whole movie away.
