Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I imagine they changed that final shot to avoid comparisons to Captain Marvel. Which is a shame, it was a far more exciting shot.
Regarding that shot, the movie will feature different levels of Dark Phoenix:
Before the title card, we see Jean in Phoenix mode, face streaked with white lines – and she’s only just getting started. “That’s not maximum [Phoenix]. That’s a two or a three on the Dark Phoenix spectrum,” warns Kinberg. “It is a manifestation of her transformation from the Jean we know into Phoenix. Over the span of the movie we see different symptoms or iterations of that. The lines on her face let you know that Jean is losing control, and that force inside her is trying to escape, push through, take over. Those cracks are almost as if something inside her that’s more powerful than she is is trying to push out of her body.”

Regarding that shot: So it doesn't seem to be a split personality like X3.

As for the trailer, I thought it was good. Not great. I liked the leaked Russian trailer more, probably because of the music and at the end had such a better payoff (with her fire hair and glowing eyes). This one sort of builds up and then fizzles with that last shot of Jean. But I heard they are working on another trailer to release very soon (probably for NYCC) and much more VFX/action heavy.

I liked in the leaked trailer that this shot showed the energy exploding back out. There was also a very quick shot of what seemed to be Jean flying very fast alongside a skyscraper and breaking the windows in the process. Hope they put that in the next trailer. Sophie Turner said she did a lot of flying.

Having no knowledge of the Dark Phoenix saga and based on the trailer alone, I think it looks good. I like my X-Men movies bit more intimate and character-driven, unlike Apocalypse. Conflict between ideologies is what makes them interesting and different from the rest of the superhero movies.
So, no idea how this will turn up, but I liked the trailer.

I have a lot of respect for Singer as a director, but flying looked funny on all of his X-Men films. DOFP is so brilliant, but that wire work is hilarious at best. Maybe Kinberg fares better.
Sophie also talked about how they didn't use wire work this time, at least she didn't. She said they used something called a parallelogram which was her sitting on this bike seat kind of thing and there were weights involved or something. Definitely different from wire work so I expect the flying to be much better. Hopefully Storm used it as well!

in terms of flight scenes, it seems that simon knows how to work better with this
singer never made a very complex flight scene, for example storm only levitated in his films, the best scene of her in all the films was in X3

"Selene, use your shockwaves. Target those weapons"

Ok now this did bother me. Lol

THANK GOD!! Flying were some of the worst in these x-men films. Marvel always did it better in their movies. Glad to see Kinberg finally updated for the x-men film.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (or simply Dark Phoenix, as it’s being called in the US) has a darker, more mellow typeface that Kinberg explains is emblematic of a new tone for the franchise. “The way I wanted to make the movie was very different than the aesthetic of previous X-Men movies, which I’ve been very involved in and proud of,” he says. “But I wanted it to feel more naturalistic, I wanted it to feel edgier, more handmade, more real. I was very inspired by what James Mangold did with Logan, and I felt like if I could bring a measure of that aesthetic in the film that all of the intergalactic and larger-scale things that happen in the movie would feel more shocking, more realistic, more emotional. They’d be grounded in some reality. And so, all of the movie – from the costumes, to the title card, to the set design, to the way the X-jet looks – all of that stuff is just more analogue in a way. More like, let’s say, the original Star Wars movies. Not that analogue, but the movies I grew up loving had this very gritty, edgy, cool, human feeling to them.”

I do not know anything about this Selene character.
but apparently it will have some action scenes, since the actress posted some photos training in gym with shophie and alexandra.

If it goes the way of Logan, that would be okay. Logan was so raw and depressing while also being hopeful. I loved it. If they can do that with Dark Phoenix, I'm okay with that.

I know that the ending of DOFP kind of ruins it, but since Jean does sacrifice herself in the comics after becoming Dark Phoenix, I wonder if the funeral in the trailer will be hers. And they'll just do the typical Fox thing of ignoring the continuity.

Selene is associated with the Hellfire club's Inner circle. She's suppose to be the first human mutant, thus the oldest living mutant with a long lifespan born over 17,000 years ago.
a " psychic vampire" with the ability to sustain herself by psionically draining the life force of other human beings into herself. If she drains a person's entire life force, the victim dies and crumbles to dust in seconds. Selene's youthful appearance and vitality depends upon her absorbing the life forces of one or more people on a regular basis. By using the absorbed life energies that sustain her, Selene can enhance her physical strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and durability to superhuman levels. The amount of energy she has retained from her victims does seem to correlate somewhat with her physical strength and resistance to injury. Selene's most direct weapon is the telekinetic power to animate and/or levitate inorganic matter on a molecular level, by projecting part of her absorbed life force into it. She can affect nearly anything within her line of sight, and can warp and alter the molecules of inanimate matter to her whim, causing objects to wrap around and constrict others, creating lifelike humanoid structures to combat her opponents, or simply reducing objects to dust.
Now of course it probably won't be all that for the movie more centered on Jean Grey.

I am surprised to see Selene in this and how she ties into Magneto and the early state of Genosha.

Are we sure that's Selene? Makes sense, but I thought she was playing a version of Lilandra.

I enjoyed the trailer. Didn't wow me or anything but it doesn't look too bad.

I liked the Dark Phoenix trailer more than Captain Marvel's trailer, but I'm still more excited to see Carol Danvers make her debut

On the costumes
In a move sure to please many long-term fans, the X-uniform in Dark Phoenix finally brings in a classic yellow-and-blue design similar to the comic and cartoon incarnations. “I’ve been waiting to do that from the first time I ever got a call from Avi Arad,” Kinberg enthuses. “Avi and Kevin Feige were the chief two people that called me about an X-Men movie 15 years ago. We talked about the costumes, and what Bryan Singer had done I understood and liked, but they were very different to what I had grown up seeing in the comics. So I was excited finally as the director to have more of a say and clothe them in their classic costumes.”

The new look pinches elements from various designs seen on page and screen over the years. “I had a board full of my favourite images from the comics, and then I worked with our costume designer, who also worked on Logan, to create something that was incredibly loyal to the comics and then also had a little bit of its own feel. There’s little nuances from the cartoons, the comics, from whatever it is that if you were a fan you grew up reading or watching.”

Cut to the end of the trailer, and we get a glimpse of the outer space incident that kicks off the whole Phoenix takeover. “Jean is in space, and what she’s taking in is a cosmic force that she thinks is one thing, and over the course of the movie realises is something far different, that our human science can’t explain,” says Kinberg. “But she needs to find a way to control it or she’ll destroy more than just her friends – and even our planet.”

Selene has changed a lot of the years so it is not surprising she looks different.

X-men: The Last Stand is a horrible and unforgivable movie for a few reasons

- It took Jean's agency and voice away
- The Phoenix was poorly explained and was a subplot
- Wolverine "saved" Jean by killing her
- The movie was a vehicle for Hugh Jackman's marketability - Jean's story was turned into his story
- Jean's resurrection was uneventful. We don't see her rise from the water and she just stands there
- Phoenix is a monster with no redeeming qualities
- Cyclops is killed off really early in the movie and barely mentioned again
- The "Phoenix effect" didn't even have any fire effects lol
- Jean stood around for the entire last half of the movie, including up until the very end of the final battle
- The final battle was loud and obnoxious, but had really low stakes in terms of the characters
- The movie told us about Jean and Xavier's mental blocks, but it doesn't show that dynamic
- Jean's friends don't care about her and are ok killing her
- Immature humour and uneven tone

Despite the superficial similarities the trailer has with X3, the trailer also shows us that these horrible elements will not be in the film. This might be more like the great movie we could have gotten instead of X3 than like a true version of the Dark Phoenix Saga (which will make it not a great movie for many). The trailer showed us that the movie doesn't get passed the franchise's problems (human Mystique and Beast, over reliance on Xavier and Magneto, lack of focus for the actual X-men like Storm and Nightcrawler), and those problems will be a deal breaker for some people.

I'm on board after this first trailer. The acting on display alone is worth caring about. There's a lot of the movie we haven't seen yet, like the entire space mission, Chastain's character/villain, the third act, character dynamics before Jean becomes Phoenix, etc. The opportunity to fix the franchise's biggest blunder in its final movie could be a great thing.

The truck behind the X-Men in the neighborhood scene says “Bishop Powers” on it... hmm!

this character who is now called selene, has always been listed on imdb as "luna"
I think they decided to change

apparently will be the 1 xmen trailer with less than 10million views
I do not know if youtube is slow to update views ..
