Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Blink’s powers looked so cool and worked so well with team members (team chemistry is something I love in X-Men comics), that it would likely have been popular in many other places too.

Collider didn't do themselves any favour by seeming to speak on behalf of the studio in that way and defending/explaining the reshoots. It didn't come across as a very objective interview.

At least Frosty asked who Chastain is playing. We know it's not Mastermind but is some kind of amalgam of two other existing characters, if i recall the answer correctly.
Collider is more cautios on being polite to studios and Hollywood people which is understandable. So if people want to see something positive about Foxverse and ignore the negatives, its the site to go.

I still remember they had Singer's friend in their podcast and said that Apocalypse was good and was gonna surprise people.

Fox would have been on the 1 billion dollar club had they kept the Dofp/original cast, including Blink, Bishop and adding Cable and Domino. but...... Fox just preffer the cheaper route and going back to the past (typical old school Hollywood) but it didnt work for them.

X-Men isnt Star Wars and just because Star Wars had a succesfull prequel trilogy doesnt mean X-Men would have the same luck. Interestingly, Star Wars went back to present day many years later, with original cast (and new actors) and here they are, on the desired 1 billion dollar club.

Fox just doesnt care about their original cast, never did that much, they just cared about Jackman, Stewart and basically thats it. Cyclops, Rogue, Angel.... who cares about them.

I would agree that the best route for the X-Men series would have been to keep (most of) the original cast and work in replacements. Jackman, Berry, Janssen and Marsden are no older than RDJ, who (with the help of body doubles, CGI and green screen) drew blood from a purply space god at 53 years young!. You could have had at least a few of the OT characters active, give bigger roles to Paquin, Page and Ashmore and sprinkle in newbies as needed. But Tom Rothman, the man behind the Sony Venomverse, hated the rising costs associated with the films and wanted to focus on cheaper prequels and solo flicks. Though the FC series has had its moments, I never had the attachment that I did to the OT crew, mostly due to the rise of the MCU happening around the same time.

yeah, I love the young X-Men too, but the overall feeling is that adult cast was IT. they really had the cast, an A-list cast with some supporting actors more than capable to do the x-men justice, they had great new comers, Omar Sy, Fan binbing, now they have Josh Brolin, Zazie.... X-Force was basically just introduced. Add the New Mutants cast and there you have one hell of a universe, ALL set in present day.

I mean..... just imagine a team movie/event with these actors:

James Marsden
Hugh Jackman
Halle Berry
Anna Paquin
Channing Tatum
Ellen Page
Kelsey Grammer
Ben Foster
Shawn Ashmore
Alan Cumming
Daniel Cudmore or Stefan K.
Josh Brolin
Zazie Betz
Anya Taylor Joy
and Charlie Heaton.

Just imagine a X-Men event with this roster....... just imagine it (with a competent and new director/writer to this franchise)..... imagine all of them sharing screentime together :wow::wow::wow:

FIRE. it would have been quite the movie and no doubt about it it would reach 900m or 1 billion easily.

Who's that?

Anyway if they really wanted the film to go big in China, they could have just brought back Fan Bingbing and develop Blink. Apocalypse wasnt even in China 's top ten highest grossing films of 2016 as it only placed at 15th. Yet dofp was the 6th for 2014.
Didn't she disappear or something?
Was she found?

Last I knew she was found, owing millions in back taxes and fees and is now in hiding. Hard to know if that is true or not.....

What I read was a speculation article that the tax debt might be the reason why she disappeared. But it didn't say she had been found, or that it was for sure the actual reason for her disappearance.

Refresh!!! Honestly, I’d consider bringing back two actresses who could look different and amazing with Marvel, Jessica chastain as Emma Frost and Anna Paquin as Rogue.

I don't want, and certainly don't think, Marvel will be bringing some of the FOX cast to the MCU as mutants. At least not any time soon.

However there are two of them that I really wanted to have more to play with: Paquin as Rogue and Ellen Page as Kitty. I think I'll always be a bit sad for them not getting a decent material to play with those characters.

M. B. Jordan went from Johnny storm in fantastic 4 to killmonger in Black Panther shortly after fox scrapped f4 and he did an awesome job.

Fox X-men are coming to an end, and a lot of Fox’s draw was based on acting talent. Their casting choices have been so great I don’t doubt some of them will end up with MCU roles very soon.

Fant4stic was very far from being a successful franchise like the X-Men, and B Jordan was not associated with Johnny and Fantastic Four the same way Hugh Jackman, Stewart, Mckellen, Fassbender, McAvoy, or even Paquin, Famke, Berry and others are associated with X-Men and their characters.

If some of them are joining the MCU, I think it will take a little longer. Or it will be with actors who played more forgettable roles, like Peter Dinklage.

Yeah and thats alot of characters to juggle, just for the sake of juggling all these characters for fan service.

Although probably have to throw in Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool too. just to add an extra person for screentime, fan service and money. after all if you are gonna throw them all in then do it right!

But then you could easily do a story like that with the new cast too and would get a great reaction like it did with Deadpool 2... although there would probably still be too many characters to juggle if you wanted to start mining the universe to bring them all together.

I was on the x5 boat for a long time too. I would have rather seen a new trilogy of fox X-men movies set in the future with x-23, cyke, rogue, colossus, beast, gambit, Emma Frost, kitty, bishop, North Star... and a few fresh prequels that focused on developing a core X-men team, a lot of coming of age stuff and a focus on the different viewpoints presented by Charles, magneto and mankind.

But Marvel can give us stories and characters we haven’t really seen yet, logical continuity, and merchandise. And hopefully something a little meaningful too

I guess we’ll see

*sigh* if only.
DOFP is one of my favourite comic films, but I really wish we got to see more of the Future scenes.

I was rewatching X2 the other night and I love how you could see some characters reaching their potential. Rogue was getting pretty spunky, Storm had a decent role etc. Yes, it still focused heavily on Wolverine, but it felt more balanced.
It’s such a shame they undid so much of that with X3. Had that film been different, I think the whole series would have gone a different route.

Olivia and Channing would have fit in while a Deadpool team up would have been easy to do. I also wanted Foster, Omar and Alan to return for bigger role. Smh.

Maybe Paquin can be the MCUs Mystique

sounds like you just didnt watch Avengers Infinity War.

It can be done, with most characters getting their moment to shine. its not about all of them getting 30 min of screentime.
But of course, if you are just used to Kinberg's scripts, you wont believe it can be done with the X-Men too. I get it.

Evan Peters can easily get recast in the MCU too. Different role of course. Quicksilver’s not standing out as much as you’d think, small appearance in dofp and unfulfilled arc in apocalypse, great action scenes, but not memorable. I feel he has potential for more.

Really does sound like some people haven't seen it. It's difficult, sure, but it can be done and we now have proof on screen.

Yeah X2 built up X3 to really deliver and the forums were really exciting back then. Even though we've had some great films since, X3 did damage to the underlying structure of the X-universe which meant the overall benefit from then on was more film to film or between a small number of films, rather than cumulative of the whole body of work and continuously gaining momentum.
