Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I’m sorry for X-Men 3,” said Kinberg, who co-wrote the earlier film. “We tried to tell the Dark Phoenix story and we didn’t do it properly. So, with this Dark Phoenix story there is no ‘cure’ plot, there is no other plot. It is the Dark Phoenix story, as told in comics, as told in the cartoons. Sophie is the center of the film, that’s why she’s the one person that’s in the teaser poster. The entire movie revolves around her. It’s a movie that goes into space and is cosmic, very much inspired actually by what [Taika] did with Thor — even though the tone is totally different — but just the ability to make a character movie that still feels grounded, and fun, but is in whole other universes. Jessica Chastain’s character plays an alien, and that’s all I can tell you about that. But, yeah, it’s the Dark Phoenix story and if you’ve read that comic I think you’re going to like the movie a lot.”

'Dark Phoenix' director says film was 'very much inspired' by 'Thor: Ragnarok'
Is he sorry about Fant4stic and Apocalypse as well?

I can only hope it's a goo dmovie
Is this a good thing or ..

That is .. okay so Thor Ragnarok trailer was colourful and had in your face music.. DP trailer was relatively dull and somber. Kinberg stop lying.. Ragnarok was not grounded at all, what is he smoking?

They are really trying to sell this movie with the THIS IS A DARK PHOENIX movie angle since the mucked up X3 so badly. X2 ended on such a high note and X3 just dropped -1000. I just think it's way too late, they had no idea how big of a story DARK PHOENIX was in 2002/2003 to just drop it in X3. They didn't think a movie revolving around someone NOT Wolverine was going to cut it. I feel bad for Famke Janssen lol

Would you be down to be in the MCU?

I don’t know. I feel the complexities of the X-men being shunned by society and segregated is not something that happens in the Avengers universe. Of course, I want to see them crossover but I don't think the themes through X-men will collaborate well with the Avengers. It’ll be very different. If they do it, I’d love to see how it turns out.

This is the truth. 'nuff said.

Nah I don't agree there. The Avengers are either humans with special abilities (Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye etc) or they're from another planet (Thor) whereas mutants are a genetic evolution... the next stage in humanity... and there are a LOT of them. Society sees mutants as an attack on them and that's why they are feared/hated.

Both can definitely exist in the same world (as they do in the comics!)

Lady Sansa knows what's coming. You can't blame her for rejecting an idea that will likely have her replaced. I actually like this young cast, all of the cast, unfortunately for them the MCU will want a fresh start.

It sounds to me like shes well aware mutants will be rebooted for the mcu. Good. :)

The point of her quote is not that.

It is that the tone and way characters are portrayed in x-world cannot be mixed with how the Avengers are written in movie.

It would be like try to mix Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers left alive' with Twilight-saga. It's not only a matter of overall quality, but avove all, vision.

(That's about Singer's X-Men, we don't know how Kinberg will be)

(Of course in comics that it's possible, it's a totally different situation)

I think he has been smoking some really weird sh** since 2005 :funny:

I agree. X3/4 (under Singer) back then could’ve been “the infinity war” movie of that time. Come on now is the PHOENJX RAPTURE!!!! Fox really dropped the ball and before the MCU, DCEU, Sony came about they could have been the film studio to beat and been the inspiration for other comic book films to compete against. Instead everyone is trying to copy or take inspiration from the Marvel films. X-Men would have had the game on lock! And that DP saga could have lead to a DOFP, Age of Apocalypse event a feature in Deadpool movies (so the timeline won’t be so messed up) with the OT cast. I’m sure Fox could have gotten the money and the actors to sign on past X4. These prequel movies probably will never had to happen and instead we probably could have been gotten New Mutants, X-Factor spin off movies once the OT cast decide to move on. Oh well what could have been.

This is one of those oh he says its inspired by Ragnarok? well i guess he is saying THE WHOLE FILM IS INSPIRED BY RAGNAROK. it couldn't be anything less then that. middle ground? whats that?

and a lol at the big irony of some users making fun of MCU and their movies and now X-Men director said he took inspiration from Thor Ragnarok nonetheless, one of the worst MCU movies (at least to me) :funny:

what an irony lol

He also said he took inspiration Logan and in the past he has said he wanted to bring some Civil War to Dark Phoenix too

The Inspiration for Ragnarok is more in the cosmic elements, and if it wasn't for the fact people just wanna look for issues they probably would have read my post on the previous page where he said to at #ewvisionaries
Dark Phoenix drew inspiration from Thor Ragnarok, in making the universe a way to highlight character

Kinberg is basically naming cbm films that have been successfull just to sell his movie. He's a producer after all, he will say whatever it takes to make his movie look good.

But we, or most of us, arent that fool to actually believe his words are accurate :funny:

some press reporters/writers or general readers may believe him a bit, but we all have been following this franchise for too many years to believe anything he says lol.

Funny thing is, she probably has a point. in terms of what the X-Men stand for, the MCU probably wouldn't be able to pull off at this point in its timeline.

Mutants being "shunned by society and segregated" probably wouldn't work in the MCU because how can you judge a mutant from a super hero? and superheros is pretty much what the MCU is becoming with its film and TV devision at rapid pace.

People want to think she is being defensive, but she does have a point.

I agree with Sophie, the Avengers universe has already been established so to try and fit the X-Men into that would be a mistake on Feige’s part. What he should do is set up the mutant-verse first, tell the X-Men’s story reintroduce us to these characters, so we can see how they differentiate from what Fox has given us. Given this racially charged climate we’re living in today it would make for a great MCU X-Men trilogy. Feige and co should focus on telling stories that deal with racism prejudice and discrimination and politics. I want to see Mutants being lynched, FOH,mutant civil rights protest, Magneto trying to start a war, etc. Once all that has been established then we can move on to the X-Men merging into the Avengers world and dealing with those types of threats.

Black Panther is a good example that you can do both things at the same time.
But I would say that's really not easy and with the X-Men you have even more characters to get right.

In the MCU i don't know if you could go with the whole racism stuff. it just seems like the universe has progressed so far that Mutants would be just another form of everything else that in the MCU. and whats in the MCU is already progressing rather quickly.

To throw huge importants on Mutants would be kinda questionable without questioning everything else that exists in the MCU.

I just wish they'd be honest about Chastain's character. She's a made up character who is an amalgamation of Emma Frost, Lilandra, and Wyngarde. In the original cut she was never even named! Maybe they gave her a name in the reshoots, but it feels like Kinberg doesn't want fans to react poorly to the fact that she's not someone we know, but also wants to build this false anticipation on the reveal of who she might be.
