Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

So your assertion is that the Dark Phoenix, the most powerful force in this universe, planned to kill Mystique for the express purpose of resurrecting and teaming up with evil Mystique? What will resurrected evil Raven do? Karate chop people?

Mystique being the source for the Sentinels’ omnipotent powers and her eventual coronation as the mutant messiah in DOFP was already ridiculous enough as it was, now you’re saying the Dark Phoenix also needs her help?

No. My assertion is that she's a goddess of death and rebirth...but there's a twist to it.

I don't think she would intend to do anything. She clearly can't quite control it.

I think you're missing the point in general here. The hypothetical is not about Jean and Mystique teaming up at all. It's about a potentially awful side effect of rebirth tied to the Phoenix force.

Mystique...

...stays dead. The only person resurrected is Jean. Twice. Sort of. Jean sorta kinda dies during the space rescue but is brought back by the Phoenix Force. Then, near the end during the train sequence, an alien impales her and she completely reforms her body. So, not exactly deaths, but events that surely would’ve been fatal for anyone else.

I have a couple questions if that’s okay
how early on in the film does mystique die?
Will Jean be fully engulfed in flames as he’s final “costume”?
Is Storms role minimal again?

Apologies if these have been answered already

Are there new leaked spoilers?

Mystique dies in the first act. There’s the space rescue, the forest party, sub-basement testing/Cerebro and then her death at Jean’s house.

Yes, but it’s only in Jean’s final moments.

She has a larger role than she did in Apocalypse, but it’s not huge. She gets quite a bit in the way of action, though.

She has Mastermind’s powers as confirmed by Kinberg and shown in the trailer. That scene where the room changes is an illusion.

Also the fact that there's a completely different entity inhabiting her that's obviously clouding her judgment.

Are there new leaked spoilers?

Not exactly. I know someone who legit saw the film. There’s also at least one person on this forum who has seen the film themselves. And I can vouch for them.

How much was done as far as VFX and the score in the version you saw? Anything that looks a lot different/better in the trailer? Kinberg mentioned in that article that there's a scene with Storm flying alongside the train at the same speed, did you see that?

That trailer is even better. What the hell. Is that trailer 3? Or international trailer 2? If I see this next week with Captain Marvel, I'm going to very positively freak out.
Its an unofficially released leaked trailer thats why the video on Vimeo keeps getting deleted. FoX didn't release it, so it won't be showing up in any theaters. Or maybe it is gonna be released as the third trailer?

You still didn't answer my question if there's going to be a title sequence similar to the Ot films.

And another X3 comparison
Mystique is taken out early. haha!

But what you’re still proposing is that Mystique turns out to be the big boss villain, it sounds like. Something that’s an unintended side effect of Jean’s new powers, a “wrong” that she will have to “right.” What power will this resurrected “evil” Mystique have? Guns for fingers?

Tbh, I think to most people, even to the people who still love Fox’s version of this franchise, the ship has sailed on making Mystique a good character. That is, to make her the Mystique they know from the comics. People are already cheering on her inevitable demise. Why give them that and then resurrect her? Not only resurrect her, but make her meaner, and badder than the friggin Dark Phoenix? A fourth movie after the supposed “true birth of the X-men” in the third movie and you’re proposing it still be about Raven.

Hard pass :p

It has the international title "X-men: Dark Phoenix".

Putting aside the international title, I don't think it's intended to be a third trailer, while there does seem to be a lot of the differnt footage (mainly the space rescue mission) the majority of the content is similar just edited in a differnt order.

I'm in the UK so assuming the "2nd trailer" is shown with Cap Marvel, I'll comment on which verison is shown.

Yeah I'm curious because Fox has the U.S trailer listed as the international trailer.

Is that a downloadable version of the trailer? Why was it posted?
Not sure if this works for everyone (or if I had to get a chrome extension) but you can download any youtube video by inserting "ss" without the ("") after "www."

For example:
https://www.youtube ...
to
https://www.ssyoutube ...

On the proceeding page scroll down to this part, and click on the link:
"But if you’re okay with slower download speed and limitations on file formats, feel free to "download video in browser"

I didn’t actually see it, myself, but the person who did said the trailer VFX were vastly improved over the rougher edit they had seen. Part of that scene was shown in the trailer.

When she’s shown with all the lightning. It’s after they had all been captured and set free to try and defend themselves against the horde of aliens. They all lose, kind of like the moon battle, and Jean comes in to save them and sacrifice herself to take out Chastain. It’s a pretty badass sequence that takes up the majority of the third act.

There wasn’t one in the cut they saw, but it could’ve easily been added. I think Kinberg really wants it to be his, so I’d be surprised if that or the Ottman team theme are included at all.

Yep, except this time fans welcome it. :o

Where did your source rate it among X-Men films? Did it feel like a final ending? Also, do Magneto and Nightcrawler find out about Quicksilver and Mystique? Thanks for the info!

In the process of "wanting Dark Phoenix to be his," Kinberg is essentially, in most people's eyes, redoing X3.

I agree Kinberg will most likely not have Ottman's X-men theme (which I think the movie would be poorer for its exclusion) and he will most likely not have the title sequence from the previous movies.

A notch above First Class but not quite up there with DoFP. That thrilled me, though, because FC is one of my absolute favorites. There was a finality to it, yes, and closure which sounded really satisfying to me. You get to see where all the characters are and they’re - for the most part - where they should be. One of my biggest problems with what I was told was that there was no mention of the unexplored familial connections. I really feel like that was a missed opportunity. I envisioned a moment where Jean, all dark and twisted, revealed these secrets to the X-Men to create conflict. But, alas! Who knows? Maybe they have a scene that was previously cut or since filmed? A lot can change in the editing room.

Do they even have opening credits for screenings?

Personally i don't think the Ottman theme will be used though. the moment it looked like it was gonna be called just "dark phoenix" for at least America, i think the intention was to do something abit different.

After all them putting "DARK PHOENIX" in that kind of animated opening without the "X-Men" title certainly would look abit odd.

Yeah, I’m completely cool with it not being there. It’s Singer’s mark (and the uninspired Ratner’s, too, I guess) so I think it’s the right choice not to include it. Vaughn didn’t have it and I didn’t miss it.

That’s a plus for me actually. I’m not a huge fan of First Class at all (although I own it, I own all the x-films). I really enjoyed DoFP but I’m not expecting it to be that good, so If it’s better than FC that surpasses any personal expectations. I will be very happy if it’s better than Apocalypse.

No...I literally said nothing about Mystique being a big boss villain.

What powers does she have in the comics and movies?

No one said anything about Mystique being meaner and badder than Dark Phoenix. And no one said it would still be all about Raven.
