Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I only got Shazam! But I live in Hong Kong. I know nothing about Shazam and it looks like a fun movie..

I'm a true X-Men comic book fan and a true X-Men movie fan.

Beyond character-arcs, these are well-written, adult, bleak superhero movies... with themes and many deep layers.

I'm fine with having brilliant and outstanding character-arcs for Xavier, Magneto, William Stryker, Mystique, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Beast, Deadpool, Iceman --- and great cinematic depictions of Storm, Shadowcat, Rogue, Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Nightcrawler (3 movies), Sebastian Shaw, En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse and, of course, Quicksilver !!! (who is an icon now).

Cyclops has been alredy "redempted" on X-Men Origins (kinda of), Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. However he was very cool on X1 and X2, not developed but very cool.
Oh, and I loved that they used Havok in most of the prequels as "callback" to Cyclops.

I never cared about Psylocke, Gambit, Emma Frost and Angel. Sorry.

By the way, Mystique has been reinvented since "X-Men" (2000), and she has been turned into a wonderful and iconic character. Jennifer also did a great job with it.

If you don't like it, you can always read the comic books - please, do a favour to yourself, only CLAREMONT ;)

I dont even know where to start, lol.
but the bold part explains everything.

and lol at "great depictions of Storm, Rogue, Kitty...". I honestly cant take you seriously anymore.

Look, while I agree with you, maybe that’s just how they feel about the characters on film? Perhaps he’s content with the character development on screen? That doesn’t mean their less of a fan than we are. You need not to agree with them, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t take them seriously? Just because he doesn’t care for certain characters, I have a few myself that I’m not mad, haven’t been on screen yet lol

Thanks for the laugh.

Sincerely,
A TRUE true X-Men comic book fan.

P.S. Raven isn't iconic, and Cyclops is mostly considered lame by general public. #facts

Oh well, laugh if you have nothing better to do. I'm myself laughing at the silly criticism of this forum.

Raven is iconic. Rebecca as Mystique was VERY iconic in 2000-2006. Still today, her Mystique is stamped all over the worldwide X-Men DVDs and BLU-RAYs. LOL
Jennifer just kept up the good work with the ICON and she did a fine job.

Sincerely, the criticism on this forum is totally out of this world and detached from reality.

I don't like it and I have been reading the comic books for four decades. So I know what the X-Men SHOULD be like on screen and I want them represented correctly.

The movie franchise is a different universe/parallel dimension from comic books. That's it. Respect it and respect everyone else's opinion. There is no right or wrong.
The movie franchise is a different universe.

I'm in the UK, I just saw captain marvel (unsurprisingly) they played the full second international trailer.

My friends who weren't impressed much with the standard American trailer, enjoyed it much more. Maybe it was the spectacle of seeing in on the big screen, but it suprising how much different editing can do.

While I'm sure there is probably analytics behind the trailers (Americans like this, Europe like this, etc). I really think they should show the international trailer in America; one of my friends wasn't looking forward to the film very much but says he is now quite excited for it.

If anything get whoever cut the international trailer for the final one.

The role of Mystique in these prequel films has been determined by the studio, the directors and the actress, not by the natural flow of the story.

There's just not going to be a major motion picture that is independent of outside forces where the story just magically coalesces and serves characters only. That's just not how it works.

Mystique's role and character arc is unfaithful in comparison to the comics mythology, but her character's trajectory is not especially unnatural within the scope of this series of films, especially in the sense that her development utilizes key themes of both iterations of the franchise.

So you're happy that only Xavier, Magneto, Wolverine and Mystique have had arcs and development?
And that Mystique is nothing like the comic book character? And played by a bad actress who quite obviously doesn't even care about the character, and can't even name any of the other X-Men?

Wow, you're very easily pleased if you can accept the poor treatment for Storm, Kurt, Angel, Psylocke, Jubilee, Cyclops, Emma Frost and so many others. What sort of X-Men fan could be happy with how they've been shoved into the background and not developed?
One that has a different opinion than you do.

There are many things that have or haven't been done with characters in all the XMen movies. I will state my opinion....but I do not belittle and insult those that don't share it.

Sincerely,
A TRUE true X-Men comic book fan.
I'm a true X-Men comic book fan and a true X-Men movie fan.
So TRUELY happy to see so many TRUE X-Men fans here in the X-Men forums. But please remember....this forum is for all fans....the TRUE ones and the ones who don't try to insult the other posters due to their presumed knowledge of minute about the X-Men over the last 56 years....they only love the comics, the movies, the characters, and the animated series.

Well the third act of DP was totally changed, either because of bad reaction at test screenings or because Feige/Disney suggested/requested it.

If they completed the original DP ending (set at the UN), I hope an alternate version is on the Blu-ray.
Let's not forget, as has been mentioned before on the net, that Kevin Feige went over the script for Dark Phoenix before the movie even began shooting so he was well aware what would be in the film. Then he later moved forward with the production of Captain Marvel which began shooting after Dark Phoenix. I was told the re-shot version was bigger and better action-wise. Don't know how much they will keep from the previous cuts, which I heard was inspired by Secret Invasion. I don't think they'll do away entirely with that, but we'll see. It depends on what Lee Smith along with Kinberg find as the best cut.

Was told the New York battle between Selene/Red Lotus/Magneto and the x-men was fairly massive, particularly with storm who has a lot of power displays and physical fights. They don't show much of the scope in the trailers. This will be one of the clips they show at the upcoming WonderCon.

Will we get Storm vs Magneto I wonder?

We know we see Cyclops attacking Mags in the international trailer.

If Storm is doing big power displays I don't see how Selene (assuming she has her telepathy) or Red Lotus can be effective against her.

Perhaps it will be more like civil war were neither side is wanting to actually harm the other just incapacitate them; Magneto does just seem determined to get to Jean in the trailers.

I heaven't heard ultimately if she does. But they are each paired off, with one fighting the other.

Selene fights Xavier in a mental fight. Kurk fights beast. Magneto & Cyclops. Storm and Red Lotus. Storm has major power displays here and in the train sequence when they fight Chastain and the aliens. I think both times she fights physically as well as use her powers, including flying.

The major action sequences I'm made aware of in the movie are:
- 1) the space shuttle mission taking up a significant portion of the first act
- 2) Jean's home confrontation.
- 3) the New York battle & 4) the train sequence/ending battle with chastain/aliens (both said to be massive w VFX)

I thought the reshoots weren't major?
Is less than three weeks major in terms of reshoots? Then Endgame must really have some major stuff done. And I think it was mostly the end battle with Chastain's character that was added, with slight changes to earlier scenes because of it. That battle does include heavy VFX. But that's usually a significant amount of time spent on post due to power displays.....

If it changes the final act from the original version, then yes. It doesn't matter if it waw filmed under a day, it is major if it notably changes the film.

Even if you believe that number, the fact that it shifted the release date (from actors' schedules not synching up), that it included massive fight scenes and that it features heavy FX means it's major reshoots. You can downplay it all you want and you can even bring up other franchises to deflect but this was a big deal.

I don't think it changes an entire act. They said it includes some additional action in the third act, along with adding some shots to existing scenes. That's not considered a major overhaul. With all the different cuts made of the film, I think they are combining certain elements to create a working version they're happy with for the final theatrical cut. There's been only 3 public test screenings, but there have also been non-public screenings and there's no telling how those cuts of the film differed or what was left out of the public screenings.

I'm curious to know how this film will expand on the father/daughter relationship that Jean and Xavier had in Apocalypse. I think Jean's origin could potentially play into that.

If Gladiator is in the film, he probably doesn't look the Gladiator of the comics. Look at Selene!

True, Cudmore will probably just be some no name generic looking henchman of Jessicas. But still clinging to the idea that he is Gladiator with the look, however small the chances.

You should cling to it when the MCU adapts the Shi'ar.

Anyway Shiar would have bloated the budget, like if they really went for it and of course foX has this mentality of the cheaper, the better for their pockets so when I think about it, i shouldn't be surprised. All of their X-Men films had/have budget concerns and it shows because the scope always felt limited despite having awesome action sequences/power displays in the movies. I don't eXpect that to happen everytime to Marvel Stud10s, when they get to adapt the Mutants.

One aspect I liked about the deleted scenes in Xaviers house from last stand was storm fighting hand to hand but she was firing lightning bolts with he punch swings. Hopefull if she is fighting physically they add that aspect to her. Come to think of it it was quite similar (thought less flahsy) when Thor landed on the bridge in Asguard.[/SPOIILER/]

If the UN sequence with spaceships and featuring Xavier, Erik, Jean and Scott has been removed and replaced with a train sequence, then substantial changes have happened.

Also, there are no longer Skrulls in DP. They were being called Skrulls earlier. Now they’re not. That has to be a Feige request.
