Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

From what I was told, the plan was a 2-parter (from story to production). That's why some of the cast members early on were speaking in a way that alluded to a sequel. But then changes were forced and the decision wasn't Kinberg's.

So this has gone from potentially being a 2 part epic saga to a (rumoured) 90 minute flick lol

Didn't Kinberg already address the movie's final cut run time a while ago? He said that it's not going to come in under two hours, but usually where these films have always landed: in the 2 hours, 20 minutes at most. So I don't understand why the "90 min flick" is even a rumor....

As for the 2-parter, all I can say is that two films were planned, written, and budgeted. Then unexpectedly those plans were scrapped as they entered production and everything had to be condensed and retooled into one movie.

Exactly even without the Disney buyout I feel like a hard X-Men reboot was inbound. Think about it. Jackman is done, Most of the Original trilogy cast are done. Singer dropped from the franchise. Not sure the status of the first class actors contracts. Was it a trilogy renewal or just a single film? But I get the feeling they are looking to be done after Dark Phoenix.

I think 2 more movies after DP could have happened personally. but then you also have all the other spin off projects planned which were within the same universe so those films were only half of what was keeping the universe going.

Just saw the International trailer on youtube as an AD, I'm in Hong Kong so promotion is happening lol June 6th

it would not make sense to disney "kill" the DP promote just because 4 years or more will use this franchise .. I bet that if their intention was this, it would already be done, although the agreement was not finalized. a few months fox has been doing things at Disney's request.

logically they will not shed rivers of money in promote
but I do not think there will be a boycott of something that will be theirs, profit or loss.
I think they're going to do what fox had already planned, so far it does not seem grand or expensive at all.

Just gonna post this here too. Jean Grey Illustration I finished yesterday.

I guess I’m the only one here but I really cannot wait to see Dark Phoenix. I‘m confident it will be at least 50 percent of a good adaptation of the comicbook. :-) i love everything I have seen so far. The only thing that is worrisome to me is Chastain‘s character. She seems very bland and forgettable as a villain. Her line delivery is so liveless in these trailers. Well, so I guess she will not overshadow Sophie Turner‘s Jean. I think Sophie Turner will be gorgeous as evil Jean Grey. I hope we will get a lot of that and less “scared and confused little girl“. We need scenes of Jean enjoying and misusing her powers. So far I don’t see in the trailer how godlike she becomes. She seems to be Magneto-light...let’s all pray that they are only hiding the Phoenix bird effect and we will see how beautiful, scary and iconic Jean‘s powers truly are. (I was wondering if they are hiding her powers in the trailers because Captain Marvel‘s binary form is somehow similar).

All in all, I think this will be a totally fine X-Men movie. The space mission looks gorgeous (!!!!!) and it seems to be a X-Men team entry to the franchise, which I really love to see.

Chastain has mentioned that her character is cold and to the point (specifically she states like a vet telling someone they have to put their dog down).

With regards to her "fire bird form". While I do think they could be worried about comparisons with Carols Binary form (the leaked trailer had a somewhat identical shot to out first glimpse of Carol) I do think they are building up to the reveal in the third trailer.
Kinberg stated when the first teaser released Kinberg has stated we see her go thought stages of transformation.
The first teaser just gave hints of cracked skin.
The second trailer had her with lots of cracks + her hair floating (like fire) wiht heat waves radiating off them)
I expect the final trailer would lead to her fire hair.

Regarding Chastain, yes, I have read these comments too. But I‘m wondering if this approach is a mistake. So far she is liveless and bland to me and I don’t feel any charisma. I normally love Chastain as an actress but her delivery here lacks some feistiness and seductiveness. They should have go with Mr. Sinister/Miss Sinister as a character instead of “alien vet lady“.

I wouldnt say shes bland. I like her line delivery alot, in the first trailer where she enters the church and tells Jean, you feel like you dont belong here, you dont. And then in the new trailer where shes telling Jean about how that power destroyed everything until it met here. The lines dont come off as rehearsed or robotic, they feel very manipulative and seductive imo. Chastains a great actor in subtly and it shows.

But they're not going to promote this movie... it's dead in the water so they want to be out 200 million. People forget it's not about emotions of trolls not wanting a film to come out but in fact a business that operates not based on trollmotions but money.
The deal closes in 6 days so they have 3 months to decide what to do with it. I'm guessing they'll do minimal promotion for the movie if they don't bite the budget and send it to their streaming service as an exclusive.

Bite the budget? well thats certainly what they would be doing to the films already used budget if it went on streaming.

Dark Phoenix is a finished product by now. What is there to be cancelled? Interesting strategy to make people upset here. I will report you better for trolling!

Guys, don’t forget to report people in this forum for such behavior.
Gigantic was nearly finished as well and Disney still cancelled it. What is there to be cancelled? A potentially bad movie that damages the brand on the eve of Marvel getting their hands on the franchise.

I'm uh, sorry if the distinct possibility of this movie getting sent to Disney's streaming service is upsetting you but that Is not a basis for trolling.

the desire of some that this film is canceled or not released in theaters is so much that they seem not to see what is happening

the disclosure is happening, interviews scheduled, confirmed release, disney already sent in fox a few months indirectly, if their idea were to cancel it or send that movie to some streaming platform, they would not let the fox divulge the date of release in theaters, it would simply all be silenced for the later being announced the launch on their platform. (something being done with NM)

Well, they can't really interact with nor instruct Fox to do anything until the acquisition closes otherwise it would be considered illegal collusion. They have to go on with a "business as usual" mentality until Disney formally takes over. We have not seen the effects of this deal on Dark Phoenix yet and we won't until next week.

Gigantic canceled due to development problems
it was not a finished movie

was a totally different situation, if it is because of this logic to cancel something because in the vision of some will damage something further, Disney would have canceled several films, this only makes sense in the minds of some.

only a big budget movie was canceled in history, if you are not mistaken a Chinese movie that had the release canceled by several problems during recordings, otherwise this movies (of big budget) are hardly canceled or sold for platforms of streaming.

they can not do it directly, logically you will not read an ad from disney warning that you asked fox to change the release date of alitta because it would be illegal
but indirectly YES they can, and are already controlling and giving "tips" to fox on what to do
It's a bit naïve of you to believe that this is not happening.

Let’s change the topic ASAP!!!

Do you think the rumor about Dazzler are true and she still has a cameo in Dark Phoenix? In the comicbooks and animation series she also played a tiny part and played a gig in a bar as far as I can remember.

I don't desire to see this canned.

But I suspect Disney can do 1 of 5 things.

1. Release the movie with lots of marketing.
2. Release the movie with little marketing.
3. Not release the movie.
4. Delay the release to punch up the movie further.
5. Release the movie on Disney+

This is coming from an unbiased perspective. Stepping aside from that perspective for a moment... Personally, as an X-Men fan--I want to let the MCU take a crack at this saga sooner rather than later. Fox already did this story with X3. And I'm fine with leaving at that.

However, the decision to sack Dark Pheonix will have to ultimately come from Horn and Iger... and well... they're used to fan backlashes--let us just put that lightly.

I'm still in the mostly positive crowd, but Chastain's character, that is still one thing picking at me.

Well, that and I just need to get this off my chest...

Selene is one of my favorite characters of the X-Lore, I became a fan of this character as a kid way back in 1990, and as much I genuinely like the young X-Men/Cast, as much as I can somewhat overlook this Mystique...that kinda hurts to say that, I can't forgive what's been done to my favorite X-Character and villainess. A character whose lore spans thousands of years... reduced to Magento's lackey...

I don't desire to see this canned.

Kinda with you on certain things here, but feels more apt towards New Mutants.

I don’t think the 2-parter narrative was anything other than a line Kinberg used to get certain cast members (Munn) on board. Remember Fan thinking she will be back for the sequel to DOFP?

Fox has never done a back-to-back production, not for any of their X-men properties. Planning ahead of time is not something they do.

Plus they’ve been skipping a decade between movies, they are so close to the 2000s, why linger on one decade now?

What is biased sense?
I think a Dark Phoenix sequel from FoX won't have anything to do with the Phoenix force. I see them jumping into a different story especially if Dark PhoeniX isn't well received and they would have continued making sequels until something completely flops or if it finally lost steam. Then a reboot follows.

Thankfully the X-Men reboot is gonna be a Marvel Stud10s product. Like I just can imagine if FoX rebooted the X-Men from scratch and it just turned out to be disastrous and short lived as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Fant4stic. Marvel would have more to consider since they'd be rebooting it for the 2nd time.

Incorrect. The sequel would have expanded on "certain" things. Too bad they didn't get to do it. But I believe Kevin Feige was aware of what they originally intended to do if he read the script before all these changes were made.

ooooohhh, I wanted to say something about that Chastain quote but I can't.
