Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I just hope comic-con audiences aren't misled that more of the film is set in space, when this is the only part in space (and, even then, only on the edge of space).

I also wonder why the space thing is such a big deal and was such a major expense and major achievement. We've seen space sequences in Star Wars, Star Trek, GoTG and countless other space movies. It's not like it's difficult to achieve, it should be easier than ever these days with the current capabilities of VFX.

I hope it isn't a case of nothing else in the film matching up to the space shuttle sequence in terms of scale or spectacle. People will feel let down.

Ive had this feeling since a very long time, and after the two trailers, Im afraid thats actually the case. The trailers dont really sell "an epic and big movie", so if thats the only big and impressive sequene, the let down of most viewers and critics will be big.

Its because its the opening. it sets things up but doesn't spoil things going forward.

This film still has 2 months to be released after all. they don't have to show anyone anything.

I think it's simply we haven't seen the xmen is space before + it making clear from the get go the Force is cosmic in origin (one of the biggest complaints of TLS).
Plus, it just a big flashy action sequence with power usuage; which outside DoFP hasn't really been done to this degree in the xmen films.

From what I've been hearing on the spoiler thread. The rest of the film seems to match the level of quality in action/spectical. But even still a good action sequence can really elevate a film; many people love Civil War because of the airport battle (whihc is not to say the rest fo the film is supbar!!!)

And even from a pure pessimistic point of veiw. These events are to market a film. A positive reaction a segment of a film is going to draw attention = get butts in the seats.

Really? Here in Italy that battle It Is seen like a quarrel for a spot in Ikea parking.

Here's another scenario:
He's always been mediocre to good, at best, and never really cared about the characters or their stories (remember it was DeSanto who basically begged him to sign on, and it was DeSanto who was the fan), which is why he never bothered, or could, come up with a coherent timeline or attempt to keep continuity.
That's not even factoring in how much the drug problems interfered, or his perverse obsessions.
Singer still made the best X-Men movies out there.
And he also tattooed an X to his leg. You don't do that unless it means something to you. Unless... it was a sharpie???!!! :funny: jk

A reminder to everyone......put spoilers in spoiler tags.

I dont think there is any evidence Singer wanted to do mr sinister. It was said that end credit was more opening things up rather then had any next movie plans behind it.

I don't know why its assumed he wanted to hold off the phoenix story as he spoke just as much about that and never once spoke about it needing to be built up to do it.

It just reminds me of when people used to say Singer must hate X3. He never actually said it, but its assumed because we add extra passion to Singers motivations and intentions, when really he was pretty easy going about it.
In the Empire interview for DOFP it did sound like he was somewhat upset/uncomfortable about X3. Which is understandable. Can you imagine doing all the setup and character building that the first 2 films did only to have someone else come in and decide what the fate of these characters will be? That has to be crushing on some level.

It probably was hard at the time for him to watch. but then Singer as a person would have to be quite a bitter guy to feel any resentment towards that movie. and he has been reasonably fair towards the movie overall. yeah he said there are things in the movie he wouldn't have done, but also said there are things in the movie he liked. And also stated he understands how hard it is to make a 3rd in a trilogy.

Vaughn definitely holds some resentment towards X3 and hasn't been shy about it. I don't think Singer does in comparison.

But everyone is different.

The shuttle sequence seems like a good thing to show.

(A) it been shown before so won't provide more spoilers for the film.

(B)it's been recieved very well at both showings. And that was with unpolished CGI/tempt scoring.

(C) it's a good way of marketing them as a team; it seems to be the first time we've really seen the x-men work together with their powers (I'm still surprised the worked out how to give Storm something to do in space). Plus, it seems to embrace the more "comicbooky" aspect of their powers; such as how cyclops beams are used.

Regarding Storm getting 'something to do in space', it shouldn't be that tricky to figure out.

In the comic book story that leads to Jean becoming Phoenix - where they go to and from a space station - Storm is in space and able to manipulate the solar wind to fend off Sentinels. The solar wind is the stream of particles from the sun that, when it hits the atmosphere, causes the Northern Lights.

There is such thing as space weather.

It only takes a bit of research, a look at the comics (and a chat with Claremont) to figure out stuff like this. Application of real-world science is a good thing in these films. Never forget the 'sci' in sci-fi.

Anyway, what they have reportedly chosen to do with Storm's powers in the shuttle rescue scene sounds fine. My main worry is that she will be just a special effects prop throughout the movie.

I assume her powers were connected to manipulating an atmosphere (natural like earth or artifical like that in the space shuttle) with her manipulating pressure and temperature to get her desired effect.
But then again, she is a woman with a genetic mutation that lets her control the weather so anything can happen.

I love Storm but I don't expect she will have a major character arc/focus in this film. Nor do I think she should if it takes away from Jeans story.
I think the focus should be on Jean, Scott (her lover), Xavier (her mentor) and Chastain (her manipulator).
I think we should defienlty see her reaction to jeans fall, and it seems like we will get a moment with her with her speech to Scott.
Ultimately, if we get a couple of good a character scenes (like the vision and wanda subplot in Civil War) wiht her I'll be happy.

Cool poster, but the tag line just reminds me how we’re seeing the “dark side” of a hero... we’ve barely met.

Cant help but wonder who is behind the release of the poster is it Fox or Disney. If I had to guess id say it was made before the merger. But who knows.

Storm fights alot and use lot's and lot's of new powers ...and she has overal better dialouges than her storm verse in apocalyse..she is in all the fights...
