The date June 7 was a good choice, I do not know if I'm right, but the main competitors of DP will be Pets 2 and MIB
Pets 2 are literally not having the same hype and marketing as the previous one and will be hampered by being close to the launch of toystory 4, many people can stop spending money on it to expect toystory.
MIB for me will be a movie that will be a victim of comparisons with the old version and will perform similarly to independence day 2.

if DP as the only superhero movie of June is a good movie, he can take advantage of this lack of competitor of the same segment and do good box office mainly internationally.

Right now, all eyes are on Avengers. There are people at work who’ve bought several sets of advance tickets for that, including double screenings of both parts, IMAX screenings etc. It’s gonna be a monster.

That film had a zingy energy to it but it’s also a very leftfield and quirky entry in this series. Banshee’s flying looked great though, a notable improvement on the flying shown in this franchise,

Also Secret Life is the highest grossing Illumination film in the U.S. its not suddenly gonna drop like a rock because its opening against Dark PhoeniX and that Toy Story 4 opens later that month. Also speaking of not having the same hype, Dark PhoeniX doesn't have a lot of hype, much lower than the buzz for Apocalypse.

One of the reasons that hurt Shazams box office has been releasing so soon before Endgame with people not bothering to go because they are saving up or have already spent money for Avengers presale tickets. Having Dark Phoenix release after will be better for its box office.

Even though I'm very excited for this film, I could care less about how well it does box office wise. The only benefit I get from a blockbuster doing well is getting to see a sequel. Since that's not happening the only thing I care about is that the quality of the film is good.

FC is a good movie but it had a box office below the expected purely by the marketing that was horrible
I know people who do not even know that this movie exists, here in Brazil for example basically had no disclosure

DP last week was having a publicity campaign in partnership with the second largest radio in Brazil in the lollapaloza.
the marketing is clearly improving so if the movie is good I think it will do well internationally.

I think people are over thinking the whole Good as First Class thing. FC quality certainly wouldn't be bad, but at the same time i assume the comparison isn't that FC and DP are gonna similar movies because of it

- This will be a racy raving smash success even after its release after the avengers. This is the most likely outcome. The reason is because people are noticing that this is the last precious X-men film in a while from the rather prolific Fox studios and even more so that it’s the directorial debut for one of the most skilled and proficient and polished craftsman currently working.... Simon Kinberg. People are noticing that this man’s talent really helped shape the amazing moments in this saga of films and for him to be making a debut to showcase his directorial talents will be a sublime moment for fans. He has a fresh vision for the film and a new look which are being praised. The film is receiving good word of mouth.

- the other way which is less likely is that it won’t make as much because audiences will probably know that Marvel will most likely hire Kinberg to oversee the development of the X-men into the marvel universe (either bringing the current cast or creating a new crisp vision). They will prefer to see his true vision unrestricted by Marvel/Disney and he can put an entirely fresh spin on everything. His own stamp under his stewardship. Audiences are likely waiting for this!

I think it's likely.

Whatever they showed at Cinemacon (I believe the recent TV spot is condensed version) has been described as the best marketing for the film.

Disney wants to make a profit, having "the best" trailer play inforont of Endgame (and all the exposure it will have as a result) seems like good marketing.

I don't know if they'll show the full raptor, but I certainly think we need a full body shot of Jean with her hair on fire.

If not revealing Chasatains character, they need to make clear she is an alien.

They revealed a character's death in the second trailer. Its director then confirmed the death to the media. There's no red line any more.

Boxoffice.com projects the Domestic TOTAL to be $113Mil. That's a long ways off from the film's $150Mil budget, much less to it's ballooned $200Mil. Not to mention that if those numbers pan out, it'll be the lowest grossing domestic total and lowest domestic opener.

With that forecast $, they'll be desperate for eyes on this movie, akin to Singer revealing the secondary costumes from the end of Apocalypse and lifting the embargo super early.

There's less than 2 months left to do something, anything, different.

I think he needs to show that the chastain character is an alien.
it's no use just talking about it, the film needs to show the public that it really has new things
this new trailer needs to show the jean in its final form, it is no use hiding the phoenix in a movie called darkphoenix
and need to quickly show the aliens

I don’t know how showing the full Phoenix or revealing Jessica chastains character would help get the general public into the theater to see this? Maybe a handful of on-the-fence comic book fans but that’s not gonna change any numbers. It’s Fox’s fault for letting the X-men become culturally irrelevant over the years. I don’t think they need to reveal anything else just spend a lot marketing the film and reminding people of the franchises history, why the X-men are awesome and that this is the last X-men movie in this universe (and probably for 5 years). Using nostalgia might be their biggest selling point, if they can get all the OG cast to go to a premiere or on a talk show together or something. Cuz no one cares or is invested in these younger versions unfortunately.

Revealing those things get people talking. The biggest complaint about TLS was that it was too earth-bound (other than the fact that it sucked). One thing Kinberg has to stop saying is that this is a "grounded" movie. He also has to stop showing clips that remind the GA of TLS.

I do agree with you, it's too late for this franchise and for this film in particular and these younger iterations of the OT characters just never really caught on. Especially not in North America. Their last best hope is to actually let people know a new X-men movie is coming out. I suspect the awareness of the movie is quite low. With how much I think it'll suck, maybe that's a good thing.

Just show the aliens vs xmen fight shots. General audience eats that kinda stuff up. Dont need to reveal Chastains character.
