Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Well, I did it. I'm very pleased now.

I modified my timelines and inserted "LOGAN" in the Original Timeline a.k.a. Timeline Prime Alpha.

So, "Logan" is a follow-up of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "X-Men", "X2" and "X-Men: The Last Stand". It works nicely this way.

Decades after the events of "Logan" (2029), Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) traveled back in 1912 and started altering the timeline, thus creating the "First Class Franchise" we all know and love.
Was Shaw ever mentioned in the Original Timeline?

"His father" lol

Shaw was on the TV set playing in the bar where Mystique lures Mr. Laurio (Magneto's plastic prison guard). It was a "Mutant Debate" "Live Interview with with Dr. Hank McCoy (played by a very human Steve Bacic).

Yes. Sebastian is born in 1995, 9 years before the events of "X2" (2004).
He departed from the future in 2045. 16 years since the events of "Logan".

@EnDz0n3 No, I totally abandoned ship in May 2006. I didn’t have any interest whatsoever in even looking around through any of the other projects until after I watched DOFP and felt reinvigorated.

I lurked some during Apocalypse, especially after I realized Jean would be the only character that stood a chance against him in the finale. Then the embargo was lifted and it was just devastating all around.

I’ve definitely been hard lurking since the Entertainment Weekly story about this movie came out...2 years ago...I guess I was looking for a Miss Lady Venus to spill some tea. Icekid’s a better alternative with a lot less Psychosis.

Now, I have to say, there are some things I do like about this so far. The fact that this franchise has established this firebird imagery as an innate Jean Grey power trait, treating the Force as a power booster/battery is ok with me. It’s very UXM 125/137 without any FF 286. I think that’s the one thing the Force will add to Jean’s already impressive powers, is that whole “I don’t need to eat or drink or sleep or breathe cause I’m alive and always will be” aspect, especially considering one of the spoilers from the finale.

I am very wary of Jessica Chastain and what the inclusion of a generic alien race will add. I think it could have been accomplished without this, or the inclusion should have been more prominent and developed.

Idk...I hope for the best, but I’m prepared for the worst. As long as it’s not TLS and Jean gets to retain agency and choose her fate and not rely on someone else to do it for her, I’ll at least be happier than I was at this point 13 years ago.

Miss Lady Venus? That brings back memories...

I still remember one user here making fun of the Phoenix Raptor in Apocalypse and how it doesn’t look like real fire. The member’s goal of course was to trash every other past X-men movie in order to elevate Dark Phoenix and also “Simon Kinberg delayed this movie so that his SF/X could be life-like and realistic and pitch perfect.”

Now I sit here and as I watch that “firebird” and can’t help but snicker. I can do that particle effect in Houdini. That’s what they delayed the movie for?
Well...gee...this did kinda look like real fire....and much more visually dynamic, VFX-wise:

Now, I wonder why they changed this look (which had already been rendered) during post render for the re-shoots? Hmmmmm. It seems the delay wasn't simply for rendering only the reshoots. "Questions, questions....."

For the record, everybody should be making fun of the VFX simulation mess used at the end of Apocalypse. It looked god-awful and still does.

why is Storm behind Peter? is he more important than Storm or what?

its like if Kinberg wanted the actual important x-men as far away as possible
From what I'm told, Quicksilver has the least screen-time in the movie if I remember correctly.

Beast's physique is so dissappointing. Just looks like a slim guy with a mask.

Mystique actually looks good there, maybe its the lighting...
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Hoult doesn't look believable at all. This is why Beast should be mocap

What exactly are you getting at?

Wtf is up with Shaw being a time traveler now lol? Take the cameo in X2 for what it is, an easter egg/cameo or have him be Shinobi Shaw to make it sound less convoluted.

I actually liked cat Beast. But I'm a big fan of Quitely and Cassaday's art. He just looks like a blue Wolfman otherwise.

fake news.

Shaw was an active part of Magneto's revised origins in 1944, as well as being a mysterious person knowing the secrets of the mutant race.
The only way to make "First Class" (OFFICIALLY addressed as a "soft reboot" by producers and director) fit into the revised continuity sacenario is assuming that someone altered the timeline decades before 1962.

APOCALYPSE proved that many characters had their origins altered before 1973 and the events of DOFP.

What you see on-screen is 100% canon.

There's nothing wrong about the firebird at the end of "Apocalypse", it looked superb. And it's not supposed to be "real fire" anyway, it's a kind of "psionic" fire. Read more comic books.

But he died in FC so.. he can't be alive in X2. I don't know where your reach ends.

Yes, Sebastian Shaw died in 1962. FC. Exactly. Lehnsherr/Magneto killed him.

The (Dr.) "Shaw" on TV (in the movie "X2") is not Sebastian, he's Sebastian's father. Sebastian was born in 1995 of the original timeline. In 2045 he found a way to travel back in time. He traveled in the past, 1912, and created the Pre-DOFP First Class timeline. Easy.

I haven’t read any spoilers for the original cut or the reshoot version but I have a feeling that originally it wasn’t a cosmic entity. They originally described it as a solar flare that Jean absorbs and hurls back into space.

I’m suspecting that after backlash of it looking and sounding similar to X3, the reshoots changed it to a cosmic entity - which is why Sophie is wearing her wig in the scene where Jessica chastiain explains that the force destroyed everything it touched until Jean.

Since she already had fire in apocalypse, the cosmic entity is now purple/pink to show a difference, and the fire aspect of jeans power will fuse with it - so the effect was changed from orange to pink in post.

The effects are growing on me though and I do believe the trailers are hiding a lot.

Just to be clear, this is your own theory right? lol Also, I don't get why you're saying he's a time traveler either..
