Not really when those scores are that low.

I guess it would matter if you compare its rt rating to other films, but this is already worse than all the Fox Marvel films eXcept for Fant4stic and Elektra.

Kinberg better not get near New Mutants...at all.

The RT score for this is definitely "one of the worst CBMs" territory, no doubt about it.

Out of the 53 live action Marvel films since Blade, thats been reviewed so far, Dark PhoeniX has the 4th lowest rt rating. Kinberg did that!

Kinberg is also credited in Fant4stic as a screenwriter and Elektra as a script doctor. lmao!

Alright. So I've had a chance to see the movie. My thoughts: Does it deserve the rotten tomato score it got? No. I definitely liked it better than Apocalypse and X3. But only slightly. Certainly nowhere near First Class of DOFP.

I thought Sophie Turner did an awesome job for what she was given. I did like Kinberg's direction in certain parts of the movie. The VFX were great. The score I felt was awesome. However, the dialogue was wonky. I loved the first half and the world it set up (reminded me more of the x-men evolution cartoon with these younger versions). I didn't like the third act: everything about it felt rushed including the VFX. So yep. I loved the look and the tone of the movie (it could have been rated R). I loved the first half and the action. The seeds were planted for a great movie, but it just didn't reach it. I didn't mind Kinberg's direction (more modern feel compared to the other x-films), but the narrative needs work.

No movie is really 'deserving' of a Rotten Tomato score. A tomato score is not like a grading percentage. Its merely a aggregate of critics who gave it a positive review versus the critics who gave it a negative review. Its just gauging the overall critical consensus of the film. I'm willing to bet you that quite a number of critics who rated it rotten probably didn't even think that harshly of it. In fact going through quite a few of the rotten reviews they're not, "THIS IS THE WORST MOVIE EVAR!!" instead it’s leaning more towards lukewarm or just mixed. It's just that a lot more reviews are counted as Rotten this time around than the previous entries.

The good reviews that are there are genuine and obviously being fair to this entertainment product. Kinberg who is a visionary but keeps behind the scenes and is modest has been targeted from the get go like other quiet artists with unique and singular creative visions such as Zack Snider.

He has created a product that is crisp and with integrity intact. Let that judge for itself. When we see the film we too can judge the craftsmanship of this sensitive delicate yet dedicated polished filmmaker. He has taken this all by himself and has made something that many like. The critics in this case have been at it and biased since the delays by Fox to look for a better box office window. It becomes an investigatory process into seeing what critics’ approach to film scholarship is, but it should be clear to not have an agenda and maintain a balanced view (clearly the positive reviews reflect this and therefore are real genuine reflections of this crafted venture).

Seeing it will open at $50 million this week and have a higher global opening weekend than other films is clearly a sign that audiences are waiting with baited breath for a Kinberg watermarked X-men motion picture feature.

I think you may want to re-asses your own biases there.

Honestly, I haven't seen that many people slamming the film. Most are saying what a lot on here are. It's not as bad as Origins, but it's no-where near the cream of the crop for X-men films. It seems to be an average film with some meh parts. Not horrible, not good, just middle ground. Which can be disappointing to some, but it is what it is.

And 50mil for an opening isn't horrible, but certainly isn't indicative that it's doing well. DOFP made 90mil and Apocalypse made $65. So $50 definitely isn't indicative that the audience is more excited. It seems to be indicating the opposite, which is unfortunate.

But, again, it is what it is.

As someone who became aware of the X Men in 1992 and watched the birth of this franchise in 2000, I'm gonna take a pass on seeing this one in the theater. I'm just not that interested in seeing it.

More power to those who do want to see it and do like it. I'll catch it on cable like I did XMA.

For me ,the franchise pretty much came full circle with DOFP, and for me, the story was pretty much over, for this iteration.

I gotta say, I didn't expect the series to be ongoing for 20 years when I heard they had cast some stage actor named Hugh Jackman to replace Dougray Scott.

A 20 year long franchise. There's that achievement at least for Fox ,even though it will probably be bitter sweet for alot of fans who grew up on these films.

First, the critics rated it as rotten for a reason and obviously they know how rt works when they send their review. Second, a movie getting a rotten tomatoes score is no different than people giving their opinion about a film. And anyone can ignore rotten tomatoes if they want to. Rt isn't being forced to people's mind to say if a movie is good or not for you to say a movie isn't deserving of a rt score.

Well this board has gone to total ****. I'm seeing a lot of people react positively to it on other film boards. Hopefully more people here at SHH will see it and share their honest thoughts.

22% of 113 (as of now) people liked it, that's a very minuscule amount of people, so as far as I'm concerned, as long as a movie has a 1-2%, I'll always give a chance because I could be apart of that small percentage. I'm used to being in a minority It sucks when others don't agree on the things you find to be right and good, but that's a core theme of the X-Men I've always enjoyed and connected to so much.

Every movie has it's fans, and legitimate reasons to exist. As does this. I'm so happy it actually made it to theaters.

If you don't like it, that's totally valid and fine! Just bury the dead horse and stop beating it. It's all over now, Disney will save you. They will protect you and give you all the candy you want!

TWayneP, if you didn't think Apocalypse was some sort of cinematic abortion the way it's made out to be, you'll dig this.

Polarized everything now, it spills into pop culture reactions too. No such thing as "okay & serviceable" anymore, it's either the Second Coming Of Jebus or it Just Kicked A Baby, no in-between.

Would have loved them to go out on a Days Of Future Past level quality note, sure, and this isn't that, but it's basically fine. A fun time out at the movies. Hell, it's less disappointing than Godzilla, I'd argue.
