Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Whoa, that Deadline article has some juicy tidbits. You guys gotta read the whole article.

In fairness, most of us who come here regularly knew all that...

We've had a few insiders offering tidbits about the movie.

Also, as far as I understand, it wasn't previously an "intimate ending" with those four characters, it was set at the United Nations and featured an invading fleet of spaceships.

Nobody said the reshoot was done because of other marvel movie. That was fake news. james only said that original "finale" was smilar to recent movie. That's all.

So if it wasnt captain marvel then what other movie was the original end battle copying too much from?

Fassbender and McAvoy did indeed say that... but of course they may have made assumptions after seeing what Captain Marvel did when it came out.

Test audiences apparently also felt the ending was too much like Independence Day with all the spaceships in the sky.

They can come out with a gazillion different reasons why this panned. But a crap movie is still a crap movie. They can use this as an excuse now for New Mutants never seeing the light of day.

Days Of Future Past
X2
X-Men
First Class
The Last Stand
Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix

Origins still maintains it's title as worst X-Men movie overall.

And its title as the worst title.

Oh. I was referring to detective conans article where it says the captain marvel thing isnt true...so i dunno.

They had a problem with Dark Phoenix copying a (thrilling) movie from the 90s? Lol. Would have loved to see a big alien invasion fight, something brand new in the franchise

That’s not why at all. The only comparisons with Independence Day were by Fox execs when they said he can still keep the alien aspect of his visions without needing to flesh them out, much like that movie.

We were right. Disney WOULD have been better off not releasing it to theaters as they would have not lost as much money to marketing this movie
This failure leaves Disney with the hard question: Do you shelve New Mutants or do you spend money the money on the reshoots or do you not and put it on Hulu or something? Either way the Mouse is going to lose money either way. One part of me thinks it makes no sense to waste money on the reshoots for a film that doesn't look likely to make much money, and tested poorly( if the rumors are to believed) since you're just throwing good money after bad and they'd be better of just dump it on Hulu but at the same time New Mutants cost considerably less to make than this so even if it tanks I don't see Disney taking a massive loss like they're going to take with Dark Phoenix(unless they do costly Solo/Justice League level re-shoots that balloons up the budget). The money has already been spent on New Mutants so the answer really depends on how much does New Mutants needs to be re-shot before it can get to a remotely watchable state.

Just seen the movie.

Lifeless. Heartless. Emotionless.

Judge me all you want but, for me, this scene right here has more emotion than the entire Dark Phoenix movie:

Not judging you at all. I disagreed with you on a lot of things but I’m with you on this one.

The pacing is just so rushed that it doesn’t give the audience enough time to contemplate. I was rewatching the trailers and they cut out A LOT of stuff.

R.I.P

Famke's Jean
Hugh's Wolverine
James' Cyclops
Halle's Storm
Kelsey's Beast
Patrick's Xavier
Ian's Magneto
Rebecca's Mystique
Tyler's Sabretooth
Ray's Toad
Daniel's Colossus
Shawn's Ice-Man
Aaron's Pyro
Alan's Nightcrawler
Anna's Rogue

You may not have been perfect but you were still family. To the first class group, yeah, bye.

I think they should have released the 2+ hour version. I think that version’s RT meter would have been at least better than Apocalypse’s and gain a 50+ million opening like they projected.

The rt meter had nothing to do with box office. The complete lack of interest did.

Love the #XmenOriginalCast always!

You are correct that scene is better than all of this movie.
