Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I think they should have released the 2+ hour version. I think that version’s RT meter would have been at least better than Apocalypse’s and gain a 50+ million opening like they projected.
This is not founded in reality.

Even the person who leaked the two-parter stuff on atrl said it was well received. Or are you just referring to the Box Office part?
Yes the studio delayed this movie twice, added unnecessary costs to the budget, which then piled on to the already horrendous buzz the movie was getting because they already had a good movie.

That totally makes sense.

That few seconds in that X2 scene, where Jean is inside the jet and she's looking around, realizing what's happening and what's going to happen, and realizing the decision she has to make... And then when she looks at her team, her family, and gets emotional... that 5 seconds, for me, paid more respect to the storyline and to Jean as a character. She did it for them.

And that's what I think it lacked in Dark Phoenix: love. It sounds cheesy, I know, but that's it. And I'm not just talking about her and Scott, but the whole team. Instead of focusing on the discord among the X-Men and who should kill Jean, they should've focus on how they feel for each other.

In DPh when Sophie's Jean says she
has to be closer to the shuttle to control it
is totally Kinberg trying to call back to X2.

Of course forgetting that she already had Phoenix-like powers and literally killed Apocalypse 10 years prior. The difference between Famke's Jean in X2 and Sophie's already-Phoenix in Dark Phoenix...

I was talking about the extended cut of the post-reshoots version that was screened in November.

I see peeps mentioning an "extended version", who says we're even getting one? or is it wishful thinking?

Doesn't sound cheesy at all to me. Seeing a team have a connection is a strong factor in getting us to connect with them IMO. I think that me feeling nothing towards this film has so much to do with that aspect.

Yeah, it's like "if you didn't like this movie, then prolong the torture even more!" :o

Congratulations Simon Kinberg. You made the second worst X-men film of all time!
This film is like trying to eat ice cream while on novocaine. You cant feel anything!

Pros:

Acting from McAvoy/Fass even Turner was solid.

Score was decent.

The space shuttle rescue had good visuals and Train sequence had good fights esp Nightcrawler

Cons:

J Law phoning it in even worse than Apoc

Chastains character is so underwritten and is so flat. IF youre a comics fan, the revelation of who she is a kind of wtf. Clearly, Kinberg was trying to superficially make a character that resembles Emma Frost and has Masterminds powers among others.

A big event occurs at 45 minutes in and has NO EMOTION! I was like, “that happened” Lets buy groceries after" Even X3 did it better lol

Quicksilver is barely used. He doesn’t have a sequence and a big opportunity to clearly define his relationship with you know who (which has been teased in the 2 previous films) is not done! What a waste!

Storm makes ice cubes and generates lightning. If she did anything else noteworthy , I missed it.

While Cyclops is not carelessly thrown away like in X3, he only makes 5% of an improvement over his X3 role.

2 characters are against Jean after the pivotal moment yet easily change their minds with little reason.

How some shots are framed /composed , edited are so bland. You can tell a novice director helmed this.

This film had the worst mute henchmen of all the XCU. After one dies, Magnus screams one’s name, you know for the audience. Their action is lame. Riptide ,Deathstrike, and Azazel were mute but had cool action.

Overall: 5/10
Let the MCU heal you , my children

Yeah.

I understand (even tho I don't agree with) the decision of making Jean kill one of their own in both adaptations, instead of killing billions of people on other planet. They wanted to do something that had emotional impact and could pose Jean as a threat. But making her kill one of her own adds different layers to the story that can pretty much ruin it. And that's what happened here.

They shouldn't have focus on that division and discord on the team, that happened because of Jean.

The movie should have focused on why it's worth saving and keeping Jean. That should've been the heart of the story.

You don’t think Daredevil’s extended cut improved the movie?

It's the Snyder Cut all over again.

I get what you're going for, but Simon Kinberg made this cut of the movie. It wasn't a case of the film being taken over by someone else.

Sounds like Simon Kinberg needs to go read Dark Phoenix Saga AGAIN.

I don’t get where the hope for an extended version are coming from. Every film edits massive amounts worth of stuff from their films, such as they did here. The main difference is, you now know what was edited out. If anything, an alternate cut with the UN final act is more of a possibility than anything.

As long as said animated show isn't axed after one season (yeah i'm looking at you Wolverine and the X-Men, teasing me with AoA then bam!)

I talked to ViewerAnon about the test screening he saw and he didn’t see the version you watched. The one released in theaters is more or less the same.

Seems that they never publicly test screened the 2+ hour version.
