Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Kinberg has crafted something superior; his singular vision is one of supreme clarity and people have been against....

J/K I’m so glad the ******* known as Kinberg is finally going to be completely booted and gone from X-men. He has totally ruined an epic amazing classic X-men saga twice. Seriously this guy is a royal *****e. Why was he even given a second chance to screw up a story even worse than he tried adapting last time?

I am so thrilled to finally be rid of half this cast, Kinberg and Fox from this comic franchise. Fox has produced some amazing Foxverse films but the last few X-men films and even the good x-men films have done such injustice to so many major characters.

Dark Phoenix was a choppy, shoddily directed, half assed piss poor effort from a moron who should have never been with 5000 miles of the X-men.

Well played lol

That few seconds in that X2 scene, where Jean is inside the jet and she's looking around, realizing what's happening and what's going to happen, and realizing the decision she has to make... And then when she looks at her team, her family, and gets emotional... that 5 seconds, for me, paid more respect to the storyline and to Jean as a character. She did it for them.

And that's what I think it lacked in Dark Phoenix: love. It sounds cheesy, I know, but that's it. And I'm not just talking about her and Scott, but the whole team. Instead of focusing on the discord among the X-Men and who should kill Jean, they should've focus on how they feel for each other.

Spot on. Theres another moment right at the start of that clip that shows the Xmen really look out for each other as a family. When everyone is wondering where Pyro has gone and Jean realises hes with Magneto there are shots of Wolverine and Rogues silently concerned reactions, intended to show genuine regret of Pyros decision to turn to the dark side amongst the immediate panic of the jet not starting. Classic show dont tell moment, something Kinberg didnt utilise very much.

Yeah, and there are hints of that in the trailers. It’s very strange considering this had an Oscar winning editor. Dunno, maybe they shorten it so much to get more screenings.

So basically the two parter was supposed to have the climax of the first movie in new york, and the second movie would be UN/space. Jessica chastain would have been Lilandra and introduced herself to the world as Empress. This was back in early 2017. But the FOX higher-ups were planning to sell to Disney, so they cut budget and mandated just 1 film. Kinberg was a yes-man, and rewrote the script. Sets were already built for both New York and UN, so they utilised those into one movie, presumably the rumoured 161 minute duration. Jessica's character constantly bobbed between a 'lilandra' figure and a 'skrull-type' leader in this new 1 movie rendition. Filming started. The UN third act only mostly had charles, jean, scott and skrull-leader-lilandra, with the rest of the xmen/brotherhood locked up. Jean would have sacrificed herself, in the meantime taking out the alien fleet. This is in line with the early 2018 leaks, which already omitted any mention of lilandra. This early finished version of the film really did not sit well with both audiences and execs, so they had to reshoot. By that time, UN set was deconstructed, so new third act was a train. Jessica chastain became more of a 'skrull-type' villain. I really wish we got to see the two-parter though. Sure that hack kinberg would still be doing it but it would be really interesting and much better than what we got. GODDAMN this sounds like Justice League Part 1&2 all over again. I remember back in 2016 there was foxverse, dceu and mcu, and i appreciated all 3. Dceu and foxverse couldve gotten their own InfinityWar/Endgame, but nooooo studio execs just couldnt help themselves. There isnt even a good version of Dark Phoenix that exists(granted, maybe with the 22 minutes of 'good' deleted scenes that icekid saw, the movie could be slightly good) but we all know that the reshoots simply propped a fant4stic up to a tasm2. Very sad, what the dceu and foxverse couldve become.

So what were you up to on here this whole time? Just trolling and trying to irritate people? Planted here by the studio to offer positive spin?

Do tell us what was the point of all that obsequious crap you posted ad nauseum.

This was like the longest charade ever. Wow hats off to you. It was too annoying to actually have been real for all this time.

Wow...you really were pulling our legs the entire time, lol.

I applaud your long term commitment to that trolling.

Well couldn't the same be said of staunch FFINO defenders who defended Fant4stic but then finally saw the light once the movie came out? Surely not all of them could've been trolling but maybe some couldn't defend it anymore. Not saying it's the case here, but that's another explanation.

Most of the FFINO defenders just tucked their tail between their legs and ran though, and never admitted they were wrong.

I liked Dark Phoenix.
It was rushed, had a few pieces of terrible dialogue and some characters were badly underused, but overall I thought it was decent.
Mostly strong performances, I felt it had a lot of emotional power to it, enjoyable action scenes and Zimmer didn't let down with the score.
Certainly not the best X-men film, but neither is it the worst.

(I am not joking or trolling, this is my genuine opinion.)

Come on, that was great stuff! The fawning was over the top, but with what we've seen of the Snyderites it was within the realm of possibility that a fan might be ALL IN on Simon. It may have been mildly irritating at times, but the long con reveal made it all worthwhile.

He is a troll, he has been pulling this same crap in the Bat-Boards for months, posting nonsensical plot suggestions and pushing Miles Teller for Batman.

Well it's great you can laugh about Dark Phoenix now as well and joke about it too!

Hold the phone there my friend...

Dark Phoenix’s international component accounted for $107m on top of a dismal $33m number two launch in North America that delivered the lowest opening from the X-Men universe. Overall, in like-for-like markets at today’s exchange rates, Dark Phoenix internationally is trailing X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Days Of Future Past by 27% and 19%, respectively.

China generated $45.6m in a result that was 28% higher than the launch of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, yet 15% less than that of X-Men: Apocalypse. South Korea delivered $5.7m, Mexico $5m, the UK $4.9m, France $3.8m, Russia $3.4m, Brazil $2.9m, Philippines $2.4m, Taiwan $2.3m, and India $2.3m. Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and Tye Sheridan, among others, and opens in its final key market of Japan on June 21.

This is from the exact same article you linked to. It still says it made $107 million despite the headline saying that it made $140. Looks like they made a mistake and need to do a correction. I don't see any other reliable site saying it did $140m. We also have the actual opening weekend from the Middle Kingdom which actually earned 32.1 million -- that's slightly less than even its domestic opening. And a massive decline from Apocalypse's 59 million that it made in that region.

Donner, according to Fox insiders, has not been involved with the X-movies since leaving under a cloud of “creative differences” during the making ofFuture Past.

She wants OT,Kinberg & Fox not.

Fox insiders say this is true, noting that Donner additionally did not have anything to do with the successful Logan and Deadpool and Deadpool 2, either, on which she received producer credit, thanks to generous contract terms. Hmm.
