Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Tell us more!
Meh I feel like it's all been said. I set my expectations to 0 and was pleasantly surprised, that's kinda it lol. While I was watching I was like, "I mean was that a good line? No. Are these characters developed? No. Is that cgi finished? Sometimes." But I also felt like I was watching X-Men Evolution which is a plus to me.

That's fair. I feel like it's overall less cringy than Apocalypse and I would be a lot less frustrated had this been any other storyline. I definitely have a soft spot for X-films.

I totally agree! I love the movies, Jean is my favorite character, I'm a huge Sophie Turner fan, and I've gotten see almost all of these movies in the theatre with my dad as a tradition so I'm an easy audience lol. I can see why others wouldn't like it but it was fun I'd see it again!

I honestly thought Turner rocked the material she was given and I wish her face was attached to a movie that was more positively received.

I thought the same. I really hope she's successful post GOT and Xmen.

Also kudos to the makeup artist. That girl had Miss Storm and Miss Grey in a FULL BEAT on that X-Jet lmaooo. Sophie's eyebrows were ON GIRL

Kinberg has crafted something superior; his singular vision is one of supreme clarity and people have been against....

J/K I’m so glad the ******* known as Kinberg is finally going to be completely booted and gone from X-men. He has totally ruined an epic amazing classic X-men saga twice. Seriously this guy is a royal *****e. Why was he even given a second chance to screw up a story even worse than he tried adapting last time?

I am so thrilled to finally be rid of half this cast, Kinberg and Fox from this comic franchise. Fox has produced some amazing Foxverse films but the last few X-men films and even the good x-men films have done such injustice to so many major characters.

Dark Phoenix was a choppy, shoddily directed, half assed piss poor effort from a moron who should have never been with 5000 miles of the X-men.

Lmao so this cornball either works for Kinberg or is Kinberg himself. He’s nowhere to be found after preaching to everyone on the forum that this movie is beyond amazing and Kinberg is a “genius”. Also the movie opened to almost less than half of what this schmuck predicted. I wonder where he is now to defend himself?

No you just missed it a few pages ago. They were in it for the long con.

My ranking of the X-men films based purely on my own biased and arbitrary criteria:

S-tier:
X2
X-men: Days of Future Past

A+:
X-men
Logan

C+
Dark Phoenix
X-men: First Class

C
X-men: Apocalypse
The Wolverine

D:
X-men Origins: Wolverine

D-:
X-men: The Last Stand

I'm v serious about this list.

Saw it Sunday. I enjoyed it. I feel that if this came out in 2006 instead of Last Stand, it would have been received much better.

As far as my X-film ranking:

1. Days of Future Past
2. X2
3. First Class
4. Dark Phoenix
5. X-men
6. Apocalypse
7. Last Stand

There was a time I was super excited to see an easter egg of Hank McCoy talking on TV, or a little girl phasing through walls, or an asian one with yellow coat. Not anymore.

It's not the early 2000's anymore, except in the filmmakers mentality.
I was right there with you back then. But it's sort of hilarious how Fox still thinks we are living in 2002.

It was nice to see Dazzler on the big screen but I couldn't help but shake my head in indifference. Fox has been doing these "background mutant" cameo thingies of important X-Men since 2000. It's nothing new. It's nothing to get excited about

But I guess none of that matters now because it's over

So apparently Andrew Stehlin, Magneto's male henchman from Genosha is now credited as "Ariki" in the actual film. He's also credited that on IMDB.

Didn't Kinberg announce to one of the magazines (Empire? EW?) that the two mutants are Selene (I assume he meant the female is Selene, but with Kinberg Who tf knows any more LOL) and Red Lotus (the male with braids). He had also settled on the two characters looks, then, as he provided pics of the two and they remain the same in the final film.

This is so reminiscent of Kinberg's X3's "Arclight! (Use your shockwaves! Target those weapons!) who was originally going to be Stacy-X (a character Chuck Austen, comic book writer/hack created that was very much a Mystique movie rip-off even down to the body scales).

Fun part of the Fox-Men is figuring out who cameo'd. X-Men Last Stand has the others beat on that one.

Yeah he announced them as Selene and Red Lotus. Selene was clearly a Psylocke replacement, dunno why they'd bother changing his name to Ariki. I suppose they can call mute followers whatever they want though. Not like they serve a purpose other than to do some fight scenes. Reminds me of Quill in Last Stand but the credits call him Kid Omega lol.MaybeRatner should've read that character encyclopaedia a little better.

This character now being Ariki is like X3's Ken Leung all of a sudden being credited as "Kid Omega" in the film and on IMDB. What even made that character Kid Omega?

IIRC during production people assumed he was Quill.

Both Quill/Kid Omega and Ariki/Red Lotus have hair powers too. Imagine being Kinberg, writing and finally getting to direct your Dark Phoenix adaptation, after dropping the ball big time 10 years prior, telling yourself:

"Ok I'm going to allow Magneto to have two henchmen. Oh I know I'll give him Selene, who'll look nothing like her comic book counterpart, she'll have TK and use knives. And Red Lotus! I'll randomly give him hair powers that he never had in the comics!"

10 hours before the movie premieres, you call whoever types up the credits:

"Oh hey this is Simon Kinberg the movie's director. Would you mind changing the name next to Andrew Stehlin. Erase 'Red Lotus.' He'll now be playing a character named 'Ariki.'"

Jesus. The ineptitude never ends.

Please tell me we typed out the Quill part at the same time. I'm pretty sure that wasn't there before lol

Speaking of Ratner and encyclopedias, I still remember Ratner, parroting what Penn and Kinberg had obviously told him when they writing the script saying: "Every shot from our movie is taken from the comics."

Then there was "Lizard Man" in the credits and Ratner said yeah I flicked through a book and the Lizard man is actually Anole lol.

Yes we wrote the Quill part out at pretty much the same time. I edited mine refreshed then saw your post lol.

I can't help but laugh at that IndieWire article though. Yes Singer went AWOL on those sets and I have insider knowledge that that's exactly what happened but the article is clearly skewed so it paints Kinberg as this knight-in-shining-armour that swooped in to save DOFP. In a weekend that Kinberg's finally outed as this hack, the stories are flooding out that he "ghost-directed" that excellent movie. "See! He's not a complete hack you guys!!!"

Just his luck that the other movies he also ghost-directed are Apocalypse and Fan4stic.

Kinberg just can't catch a break LMAO

Reminds of the week where the rumourmill was in full swing during the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston split and that Angelina was the third party. I remember Pitt and Jolie hired a PR firm to take care of their coming out party. Ugh.
Singer did not miss out on Dofp set.He was happy to return, every day he put pictures in tweeter.
The lovely OT family with The precuels Cast.

Oh ffs. LMAO

Remember that kid floating a paper airplane? Yeah that was Hellion. Three blondes walking behind Storm and Logan in the hall? You only see their backs but that's the Stepford Cuckoos. The kid writing with his mind in class? Don't worry Cypher fans, he's there! Like the Morlocks? We got Artie sticking his tongue out. You stan Jubilee? She'll be sat next to Kitty.

Oh Magneto has to get in on this fan service. He'll get Vanisher, Avalanche, Anole, Glob Herman, Spyke, Phat, Psylocke, Arclight, a misnamed Quill. You fans will love it! I read a book!

Speaking of Red Lotus...I mean Ariki, here's Andrew Stehlin and another one of the actors, Aphra Williams who is credited as "Dinner Party Guest" talking about the movie. I don't remember her, but I guess she's one of the skins the aliens steals from Chastain's dinner?

It's interesting, she talks about the reshoots being 3 months. There goes another Kinberg lie ("We shot for only 2 1/2 weeks.")
She mentions 3 months of reshoot, twice. The first mention is @ 3:22 mark and the second mention is @ 8:26.
