That wouldnt fit well... it would be better for her character development to have grown up with her powers in her native home.
I dont know why everyone has to bring up diversity when they talk about Storm as a way to justify her being there... "because having oh 5 white x-men might be a little bit racist." - When you look at the original line up of the x-men, Iceman, Beast, Cyclops, Angel, Marvel Girl... they were found during the earily days during the days when xavier didnt have cerebro to locate mutants around the world and if im not mistaken, the original 5 were found quiet locally. If were going by the Children Of The Atom story - they all pretty much went to the same high school.
But following the original concept doesnt give you the pool of good characters that you want into the mix...
Like in the tv series mutant x - there was pretty much four types of mutants, Elementals, Psionics, Feral and Molecular - the tv show wasnt a great concept but the basic principle of mutant groups joined together...
Think about the x-men, Scott was an Elemental - shoots lazers out his eyes, Marvel Girl was Psionic, Beast and i guess Angel were the Feral elements and Iceman was the Molecular.
Bryan Singer - stated before that he doesnt to have simular characters for powers or personality... Which is why Gambit never appeared because his powers were too much like cyclops and his character was simular to wolverine. - I remember listening to an audio from Bryan Singer who said he regreted putting Storm into the mix because he found that storms personality and ability was simular to Cyclops. Both Elementals Both want to lead.
It's funny really - If you re-watch the x-men movies but pretend that Iceman was supposed to be Gambit... The whole thing kind of makes sense. They couldnt use Gambit so they made Iceman take over the role and dulled down his character. - I dare you, re-watch x-men 1 to 3 watch the interactions between iceman and rogue, iceman and wolverine and just generally his overal role within the movie.
