They've likely done it for the audiences sake because some people wouldn't know how to pronounce Piotr.

They had a section on DOFP, and an interview with Cudmore where he says [BLACKOUT]there is a scene in the future where the mutants have their backs against a wall (figuratively, I'm guessing) and have to escape.[/BLACKOUT]

Yeah me too, even before I saw tas that's how I presumed it was.

I brought that up on here years ago, and had someone who actually was russian nearly go off on me saying that those pronunciations are ridiculously wrong, and it's really just pronounced very similar to Peter, just spelled differently.

He's been called Peter (and spelt that way) in comic books too. Astonishing X-men continuously quote him as Peter, especially by Kitty.
