xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

Yeah, xXx was trying to go 'This ain't your daddy's James Bond' angle, and often, that fails hard, and gets dated fast. Xander was more Poochie than extreme/kewl.

I'm seeing this for nerdy Nina Dobrev. Who apparently will end up going lesbian for rocker chick.

I'd argue, despite making pretty good coin, the first xXx was what tanked Diesel's career for a near decade more than Chronicles of Riddick. It was dated before the end credits of the midnight screening and turned a lot of people against him. All of a sudden the cool new action star, anti hero on the block was a Von Dutch/Ed Hardy wearing *****ebag.

At the very least even some of the bad reviews on Letterboxd are saying it's entertaining in spite of itself.

Nina being in it got my attention but i am afaird her role will be very small especilly since not much of her has been seen in trailers.

I thought the first movi was actually too OTT for its own good. I enjoyed aspects, and would be enjoying a scene, but then Cage would do a bunny hop on a bike and go up 15 feet in the air. With a sequel I was hoping they would dial that stuff back a bit. But it's seems they went even worse.

In Fast 5, that crazy car chase with Vin's little car swings that heavy safe around like a ball and chain totally worked. That's because Justin Lin knew what he wanted and went all out, tongue placed firmly in cheek.

When you see Cage jungle-boarding and it's played to be cool, it has the opposite effect. There's a very fine line between something silly fun..... and just stupid (like Bond parachuting/windsurfing away from a giant laser in Die Another Day).

Last night I went to a screening of xXx: The Return of Xander Cage where there was about to be a legit fight before the film just over reserved seating. Like people were going to brawl over xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

I’ll be damned that this isn’t labeled as a superhero movie because xXx: The Return of Xander Cage combines the formula of both Marvel and DC into its hyperactive action. It's as if D.J Caruso was turned down by Warner Bros. to make Suicide Squad so he decided to make his own version but with xXx.

I wish Vin Diesel would let some of his natural charm/personality shine through in his films. I always love listening to the guy talk.

The Pacifier is probably a better argument there.

There was that stint after Fast and Furious where Diesel was in everything. He still get roles now, but they're more random aside from the FF series.

Anyway, I saw the movie last night. It's a decent action movie. It's dumb, but it's pretty tongue-in-cheek wink, wink dumb. It's not great, but it's entertaining for an hour and 40 minutes.

Donnie Yen is also pretty awesome in this, and he's on full display here.

He was criminally underused in Blade 2.

See, I figure the fact he had to do The Pacifier showed the writing was on the wall by then.

This movie was dumb af. The Fast & Furious franchise wishes it could be this colossally idiotic. It was a blast.

The Fast movies are colossally idiotic. But "family" and all that.

Oh they absolutely are. But, I mean Vin Diesel satisfies 30 women while waiting for his hacker friend to get him the information he needs in this.

It was actually seven women. But the movie still passes the Bechdel Test taking Vin Diesel's male power fantasies and ego into account.

Sorry to go off topic but did any of you see the new Power Rangers trailer with your screenings? Wondering if it's attached to this.

I saw the movie at AMC today (free ticket promotion), and there was no Power Rangers trailer. It had the older Logan trailer, Ghost in the Shell, Fate of the Furious, but no Power Rangers.

Just saw this today with the fam. Better than the last version but that's not saying a whole helluva lot. 1st movie is the best by far. I'm all for brainless entertainment but I've got to have something to keep my interest. I damn near fell asleep during the final act. 4/10
