The Mistress of Magic steps into her own ongoing series from writer Paul Dini and artist Stephane Roux, and none too soon. Zatanna Zatara has long made her home in San Francisco, but right under her nose a sinister threat has developed – a crime boss who dominates the criminal underworld with the dark powers of the magical underworld/ The terrifying Brother Night is making his play for San Fran, and the police force – including hunky detective Dale Colton – turn to Zee for help. But Brother Night is a whole new kind of criminal and if Zatanna thinks she can backwards-talk him down, then she’s in over her head.

The first issue hits in May, but we’ve got a look at some black and white pages – Roux’s first interior work – right here to prep you for the series to come.

He's not A. raping anyone or B. saying how much he likes raping people, so no.

It's unlettered, so you don't know about B for sure. He could be saying, "I swear, there's a magical forest growing inside of my rape--er, cape; come closer and I'll show it to you" in that panel where Zatanna's fidgeting with her collapsible tophat. :o

He's talking about how he stole that cape from someone who he was raping and how he will now be calling it his rape cape.

So I was trying to figure out what it was that bugged me so much about Zatanna using Joker in her stage act and I think I worked out out which is that if you live in the actual universe where DC Comics takes place and you do a stage performance with some yahoo dressed up like the Joker then sooner or later the actual Joker is going to hear about it and he's going to flip a TOTAL **** over you stealing his shtick and he's going to escape from whatever prison/afterlife he's in at the moment and go to where you live and shoot you through the spine with his magic-and-superscience-proof bullets and basically turn you into a cripple until the end of standing continuity.

IT'S JUST NOT A REAL GOOD IDEA I HAPPEN TO THINK

Haha, you never know, that might just happen (well, minus the crippling part, since I'm sure she'd find a way out of it before it went that far). She and the Joker had an encounter in Dini's Detective run already.

Anyway, picked up the first issue today. Haven't read through it yet, though. Decided to give it a shot.

I've read this so far, and it seems pretty good. I've always liked Zatanna but wished she had more depth to her.... hopefully this series can do it for her.

Once again Zatanna fills it's quota for scenes of Zatanna getting magically undressed

The crucial Zatanna taking baths requirement remains, as of this preview, unfulfilled.
