DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

Jensen Ackles is the best Batman voice since Kevin Conroy, I hope he gets it. I was watching What If today and was struck by how much I prefer animation from 1992 to what they’re doing on that show. I kinda hope this is a return to form for more traditional animation.

I can't see them giving Ackles both this and a bunch of animated DTV's in the Butch-Verse.

It'll probably be someone completely new. We've had alot of new Batman voice actors recently.

I wouldnt mind if the guy from Grimm came back to voice.

Add me to that corner of Jeremy Sisto fan club, he seems ideal for that old school noir rendition from New Frontier.

News of Bruce Timm returning for a show is not something that worries me, but I don't think he's nearly infallible.

Is Timm designing the characters for this?

To my understanding yes. I believe they wouldn't had share that poster if the artistic direction of the show wasn't already set. They would have probably preferred just a logo or something more simple.

I believe WB plan is to capitalize a bit on nostalgia by bringing Bruce Timm visual touch, the most obvious link to BTAS even for the average viewers, but to put a new creative force at the writing to make sure to keep things fresh.

I'm so much a fan of Timm and I also really like the more "pulp" like version of Batman. It's an interpretation I always really wanted to see more of. For now there's silence around this project but it could quickly become my most anticipated Batman project ever (and I'm beyond hyped for The Batman !).

I’m sure Shane Glines will be on this as a designer or higher up role. Bruce Timm seems way too high to be doing the designs at this point. He’ll be approving final designs along with Reeves though.

Was hoping for some casting and/or character designs, but Timm/Reeves/Abrams and co. certainly gave us a lot to chew on.

The way Tucker talks about this being before Bruce has really solidified his relationships with people like Gordon and the way Timm talks about the rogues gallery, I’d be really surprised if Conroy and Hamill are this show’s Batman and Joker.

I think there's still a chance (however small) Conroy will be apart of this, but everyone else will be recast, which lines up with the leak a few months back about Conroy being attached, but not Hamill.

They are leaning so heavily into the B:TAS vibe (Artwork, title font, music, clips) and highlighting the Batman: Strange Days short starring Conroy, that they may bring him back for that promotional/nostalgia value they seem to be going for.

They can't say ''Batman: The Animated Series'' enough times in the press release and this featurette. It the same but it's new, it's the same but it's new. Timm always says he likes to use Conroy whenever possible, but the question is, has WB let him this time?

It seems to be a balance - a nostalgic revisit of something BTAS-esque but again something new moving forward rather than a flat-out continuation or even prequel

Timm said they are doign different versions of the villains, that will be good

A Conroy inclusion/passing of the torch that I can really get on-board with?

Voicing the Gray Ghost.

I’m very curious about the kind of storytelling we’re in for here. Will it be purely episodic like BTAS was or will we see some of the serialization that started to make its way into the DCAU by Justice League Unlimited?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Timm goes the original route he wanted to for Catwoman before WB made him match BR version more. Far left design.

Im still sad at what a poor redesign they gave Selina for TNBA.

Do you have a link to more designs like this?

I kind of love the original Catwoman design and wouldn’t be mad if they used it here. I wish they managed to make the Catwoman spin-off series that they wanted to (the middle design before the redesign for Updated BTAS.

It was more just Penguin and Catwoman as WB wanted them to match the movie versions more. Here are the penguin ones.
