DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

Harley Quinn is hysterical.
The strongest episodes of Harley Quinn are some of the best DC media in a long time. It is a truly wonderful hybrid of The Venture Bros with a well-written piece of Harley/Ivy slash fiction.

What really makes it work is that the characters are all still recognizably themselves just heightened for comedy purposes, you can tell its written by people with a genuine love for and knowledge of these characters. Huge props for being the only piece of superhero film/TV with actual queer representation as well.

It just feels like really lame BoJack Horseman tier humor to me. I guess that's what people are into nowadays, but not so much in my case.

Maybe I have extreme Harley fatigue lol. Didn't care for "Birds of Prey" either

Ummm, minus the Flash, quite a few of the CW shows have gay representation.

Fair, I've never seen a frame of a CW show apart from Superman & Lois so I lowkey forgot they exist.

I just want any details at all. I’m starved.

Along with HBO Max, Batman: Caped Crusader will also be part of a new Sunday Night family friendly block on Cartoon Network called 'ACME Night':

Sounds like pretty a good placement to me, avoiding that dreaded early Saturday morning slot CN gave most of their DC action shows.

Surely in the same manner that BTAS was a "show for kids."

Yeah you are right but in these days standards of "dark" are different. There are people out there called The Spectacular Spider-Man "dark". I hope it's really just as dark as BTAS.

Hmmm. Yeah I definitely hope this show will be something that both kids and adults can enjoy.

It definitely will.

Bruce Timm has never let us down with DC animated shows. Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited and Green Lantern: TAS targeted that all ages demographic while still giving audiences proper drama, tension and stakes.

I get the feeling the top brass at WB are taking this show very seriously. If you want to evoke B:TAS, you don't mess about.

Considering they’re evoking BTAS and the involvement of Reeves, I wonder if this series serves as as much of a companion to The Batman as BTAS was to B89.

Not a direct spinoff, obviously, because that’s not what BTAS was, but sort of similar vibes. BTAS’s Gotham was very similar to Burton’s (at least in the first movie). Timeless, Art Deco, classic gangster movie vibes. I wonder if this series will have the gothic noir vibes that the film seems to have.

I wonder who they'll hre for the voices?

Part of me wants Conroy and Hamill but part of me thinks if there are too many callbacks to TAS it will possibly sit in its shadow?

Given the calibre of talent we know who are working on it this could be really special.

Hopefully we at least find out the voice of Batman at DC Fandome. I'd be fine with Conroy or someone new.

As much love as I have for those two, I think it’s time to give each of them their gold watch and move forward. After nearly 30 years, I’d be hard-pressed to think of a way for them to reprise these roles that won’t feel a bit stale.
