I disagree. He abandoned the responsibility of his actions by not telling Lois he was leaving. Plus, he wasn't around for the first 4 years of Jason's life. If he wasn't there by default he has abandonned the child and mother.

Saying that he can't abandon a child he didn't know about is like saying a drunk driver is not guilty of a crime if he didn't realize that he hit someone on the way home. Whether he knew about it or not is irrelevant. He abandon any potential responsisbility when he left w/o telling Lois what he was doing. You also can't ignore the facts that he WAS NOT there for the first 4 years of Jason's life. Sounds like an absentee father to me.

No those situations are not the same at all. Let me give this example, if you had an important meeting in work which you HAD to attend, but no one told you about it happening, and then you got sacked for not attending it, would you feel hard done by?

How can anyone tell a lie based on their own opinoin. I think SUperman was out of character. I don't think he would ever father a child out of wedlock, or leave the woman he loves for 5 years w/o telling her that he's leaving. That's what I think. I don't secretly believe that he would and I'm contradicting that view publicly. I REALLY believe that he would not do those things. Just b/c I see Superman as a character whose essence is that of strong traditional morals and a character who puts others feelings before his own and you don't that is not lying. We simply disagree on the presentation of the character in the movie. No one is lying. Even Bryan SInger is not lying. HE maybe representing the character in a way incongruent with comic book continuity, but he's not lying.

I didn't have any real expectations for X3 either, but I liked and felt it entertained.

I had all kinds of expectations for SR. I expected to hate it. And Singer did a fantastic job of fulfilling my expectations.

Did I want to hate it? No. But it was so horrible, I had no choice.

Sorry, but a drunk driver does not equal a guy not even aware that he has a kid. Had Superman known he was having a child he never would have left because his whole PURPOSE of leaving was to see if there were others like him.

call me simplistic and naive, but when a guy and a girl get together and have sex, there's always the possibility of the girl getting pregnant. Even with protection or birth control, there's still the chance. And, since it seemed neither of those were used in SR ( hence the child ), that would mean there'd be an even greater chance of Lois getting pregnant.

Now, some will say that Supes wouldn't even know he'd be capable of fathering a child because he is an alien, and his DNA is incompatible. Well, if he's so concerned about that, then perhaps he shouldn't have sex in the first place! I mean, a super-powered man in the heat of passion would prove to be a health hazard for the woman!!!

Very good point. As far as she knew, Richard White was Jason's father. The Kid was weak and sickly the first four years of his life until his mother was put in danger. She had no need to question it until he threw the piano.
