2008 Academy Awards

I just realized none of the actors that won last night were from the U.S. I don't know if that's some kind of statement on our acting skills or what.

Good show last night, I couldn't believe it was over before midnight.

Saying a movie is better based on whether who wins is ridiculous based on the sole reason that the oscars are so influenced by culture, who really knows what will stand the test of time. How many people have heard of "How Green Was My Valley" raise your hand, how many have heard of "Citizen Kane"? I rest my case :)

:raises hand:

Those are classic movies that cant be denied their greatness even if you didnt like it. When it comes to classics its less about being enjoyable (since generally entertainment does not stand the test of time) and more about being historic (in relation to cinema)

Now if you had said Wings or Marty then I would agree with you. No one has heard of these, except trivia buffs who know that Wings was the very first Best Picture winner

WHatever... who gets worked up about the technical awards.... but I read that the dude for sound mixing on Tranformers was nominated 20 times.... 0 wins... that is remarkable... you'd think Hollywood would run out of guys in that department eventually... guess not...
Yeah, Kevin O'Connell.

I think Marion Cotillard is gorgeous. I dunno why but after seeing her last night she looked great.

It's still ridiculous that Zodiac didn't get A SINGLE nomination.

So true,

Especially when it seemed like it was on just about everyone's best of 2007 list (certainly from a critic standpoint). I mean at least Fincher deserved a nod and Tony Starks a best supporting lead.

Honestly I enjoyed more films that werent nominated than the list that were. Each one of them seemed to have a flaw (expect There Will Be Blood, which I still need to see..)

Not really. Just happened to be good europeans got roles and acted well this year.

Also like 90% of american actors tend to make movies that are not really oscar material. Like summer blocbusters and stuff.

Not really. It was just a good year for European actors.

What flaw did No Country have?

If anything supporting actor nom would have gone to Ruffalo

something is really wrong with my friend...

He called me and asked me if i wanted to go see a movie, and i said lets go see No country for old men.. and he was like, nah that looks crappy

so i aked him what film would you want to see? he said Jumper...i then told him i had homework.

last week he went to see The eye, and meet the spartans and loved them...

we went to see sweeney todd and cloverfield last month and he hated them.

i don't know why people like crappy movies, yet hate good films.

They gave Best Visual Effects to Golden Compass :( :down

But I am glad that There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men got most of the main awards

P.S. And why the f*** Bourne 3 got 3 awards?

Editing and sound type stuff. I never really notice these elements unless they are really bad though

That's because they didn't have a speech by Warren Beatty this year to drag it out. ;)

It really was a good show. Last night was the first time I can remember watching the Oscars and really enjoying them. I think a lot of that had to do with Jon Stewart.
